I have watched star trek all my life. I love it. I must have seen every movie at least 10 times (not including the new ones) and every season at least 6 times and I have been going to star trek conventions since I was 7 years old, now I got to say, even tho the first season doesn't feel or look like Star Trek , Discovery is a really good show and this new season looks fantastic! I'm really excited that my beloved star trek is back, thank you

I have a very open mind. If you take Star Trek out of Discovery's name the writing and the overarching story is nothing but any generic science fiction show. Yes Discovery has great CGI, but that is about as much as it has going for it.

Chris Rorie Same, I hammer Star Trek, daily. I love Discovery. I think it does feel like Star Trek, you have to remember that the old series' were severely limited by budget, so couldn't have the fast pace Discovery has. I cannot wait for season 2. Have you heard there might be a Quinton Tarentino Star Trek being made with the Next Gen cast? There are 2 new films being made: Star Trek 4, and this misery Star Trek. Tarentino approached Paramount with a script, and it has all gone quiet apart from confirmation of a 2nd film in the works. Very exciting

I too have watched Star Trek all of my life - and I gave STD a chance when it came onto NETFLIX. However I have to say that it was utter crap. I won't be watching season 2 and hope it fails. The way they disrespected 40+ years of evolving canon, and the terrible writing (the whole Klingon extermination campaign against the UFP ending on a wet fart - we never really saw the war or it's consequences, the Spore drive, sonar in space, the heavy handed preaching) just turned myself, and all of my mates who have been long term Trek fans, off. I just hope against all odds that they don't make an utter dogs dinner out of the show with Picard........

Craig Penfold, yeah because TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise or even TOS never had dark episodes and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan certainly was never dark, right. Miss Spirituality ds9 might've been more dark than other star trek series before it but it still has the hope and soul and is just as utopian. How can someone not be a "true" fan of something, i still love and enjoy the franchise, that is literally all you need to call yourself a fan. Knowing about that thing is just a by product. This is hands down the worst Star Trek cast ever. Sonequa Martin-Green's acting makes Shatner's work look like Stewart's. In this day and age all that matters is the idiotic, non-discerning, action hungry millennial market who believes that wide eyes and dropped jaws equals good storytelling and that long and boring speeches that merely plagiarize what's come before makes for strong characters. CBS and Kurtzman caters to them perfectly. News flash... None of them gave a crap that the Enterprise showed up! They're not Trekkies/Trekkers. They're employed actors who are lucky that they got a season 2. Trek casts of old had a backbone and admitted to not giving a crap about Trek until they were in it. But, as with all aspects of STD (and it truly is) integrity is nonexistent in this once groundbreaking, revolutionary and formerly integrity based franchise. RIP Star Trek 1966-2002.

Sorry for the late reply, just seeing this. First of all, DS9 from "Emissary" was and remains my favorite Trek to the extent that I contributed to the new DS9 doc fundraiser and so I get to go to the premiere. After DS9, I had issues with Voyager and elements of Enterprise but neither to the level of issues I have with Discovery. I understand that Trek has had to adjust itself before for modern audiences. TNG was the prime example of this. But whereas TNG advanced Trek, I feel, STD has set Trek back by pandering to the current market. It's wonderful that you and others think STD is awesome and y'all love it but the facts are the facts and it is not universally loved. Can it grow into a series that more widely accepted and loved? Yes! And if it does then I hope I'm one of the people that warms to it but based on season 1, I don't. You can call people haters for their opinions just like I could call you a fangirl but I won't. You like what you like. I like an honest cast that isn't saying what the studio wants them to say. TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT all had cast members who came into it loving Trek (minus TOS of course) but mostly their casts were comprised of actors who admitted to not knowing nor caring about Trek prior to their involvement. My gut tells me, these actors are mostly inauthentic in their claims. I feel that STD's action, plots of convenience and 21st century characters, ya know, the ones that have parties with sparklers, drinking games and who're trying to hook up have dumbed Trek down in order to appeal to those disinterested in the evolution Roddenberry envisioned for humanity. Since you think I hated DS9, I'll also say that I think it was that series that perfectly meshed those utopian ideals with relatable humanity. Have a great day!

BAD 1st Season. Just saying, despite the ET and actor's hype .. and Ex. Producer (Alex Kurtzman ), Reg and Old Trekkers did not well receive ST--DIS ( I will respectfully not say, STD). Trailer for season 2 looks adventurous, Fun with a touch of humor. I hope I'm seeing what will be in season 2, instead of all the angst and drama and ill temper of season 1.
