It's so refreshing to come across this channel. I've been watching the last couple of months and I've enjoyed every video so far. 95% of comic videos on youtube is just pure garbage. Same key issues, same story with each video (haul, mystery box, top whatever list, hot books of the week, etc.) No creativity at all and crap level production level recording from the same seat in a low lit room. All the same, regurgitated garbage. The angle that your channel approaches is much more positive and helpful. Plus most people who produce their own vids aren't A) personable or B) lack presentation skills. One hand juggling their smart phone and the other flipping through long boxes bending issues. Really, it's refreshing to see a channel that is a little more methodic with the content and give actually quality videos. What I'm saying is there's care in these vids and it's less on ego and vanity and more of a shared space to learn about comics. Keep up the good job.

Thank you for a VERY informative video! I had no idea there were any of these printing errors that CGC would let slide. I hope you'll mention more of these known issue errors in the future.

Great video. Straight to the point, I like it. But what about a comic book that looks like the gloss itself has specks all over it that you can see when you react the cover or BC of the book?

Hey Lanvin, I’d be curious to see a similar vid for foil covers. I recently got a few issues of the foil Ghost Rider 2099 #1 from 1994 that are otherwise perfect and had been stored well since release. There seems to be a few types of defects that appear on nearly all prints (scratchy portions were the printing process roughed up the ink over foil, roller marks, a weird line that appears in the center or elsewhere). Most every one I have seen has damage/scratching from the roller in the center. A large number have a spine tick in the same spot in the upper left corner a few inches down. With a book that used a relatively new print setup (ink over foil) and a very large number of books show what may or may not be defects what is the likely grading result?

Thanks for this. My Giant-Size X-Men #1 is a beautiful copy but with a date stamp. It's good to know it wouldn't affect the grade (not that I ever get my books graded))).

Great Video! Thanks so much. I'm creating a video on 9.9s and 10s and trying to get examples of manufacturing errors (a 9.9 can have a slight manufacturing error but no handling errors). I'll cite this video as a source!!

Very good to hear with stuff cuz I have a bunch of these minor things in a lot of the books you mentioned and I’m stoked it won’t bring down the grades of my books!

Most of my collectibles experience was gained through dealing with sports cards. Likely as direct result, I personally place a premium on well-centered comics. I passed on an otherwise beautiful Silver Age Daredevil because I couldn't look past the left-to-right alignment of the cover. It looked more like a 2 cent "arvel" than a 12 cent Marvel.

Lots of valuable information. Thanks so much. I have an ASM #361 with those two cut marks at the bottom of the cover. I wasn't going to have CSC grade it because I thought this was a defect. Now I will send it in to be graded!

CGC has become criminally tough on key Bronze & Copper these days. Best of luck trying for 9.8 on ASM 300 today. You can submit perfect books and still get 9.4 or 9.6 with no grader notes.

Great info, just found your channel and subscribed. I do collect of few comics but more into music and music memorabilia. I really enjoy watching shows that involve collecting because I enjoy the passion people have for their hobby and I get the opportunity to learn a few things. This show was very informative because what I thought may affect the price of comic books, may not.

Hey Lanvin. I was wanting to know if the ripple from glue on the annuals or thicker books affects the grade? That too is a manufacturing "defect" but I am unsure how it affects the grade. Please advise with your opinion and thanks for the GREAT video. Subscribed Hit!

Excellent post and you answered many of my questions. I indeed do have an immaculate copy of ASM # 300 and it does have the "chattering" you mentioned hence, I chose to not send it to CGC for fear of a low grade. Now I know it's not considered a defect. Time to get it graded.

You didn't say anything about miss wrapped Staples. I got an amazing Spider-Man 20 with the Staples on the back- it was slabbed with a grade of 6.0 was wondering if this book got downgraded for this.

What if the date stamp was written by hand with a ink pen? Does that hurt the grade?
@markleneker99233 жыл бұрын
So basically non-destructive manufacturing/distribution errors and point-of-sale stamps. I used to be very non-stamp oriented but not as much now.

If the date stamp is written instead of stamped on, does that affect the grade, or is that also an exception?
@A1ComicsINC Жыл бұрын
Date stamps were commonly handwritten with gold and silver books. It shouldn't affect grade with those books, at least not as much as like, a modern book.

Has CGC confirmed that they have a database of all of these issue specific errors available to graders?
@A1ComicsINC3 жыл бұрын
This is based our knowledge from sending 1,000's of books and industry information, We would have to ask CGC if they had such a database
@davidsamuelson20893 жыл бұрын
They’ll never tell you that.
@TheTunnelVizion3 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. "Common errors" are common knowledge for gold/silver age, but what about modern? I wonder what percentage of books need to exhibit a specific error/defect to be considered a "common error". Is it based on submissions or total print runs? I'd imagine the first several copies of a modern book will get marked down for the error, until the number of instances meets/exceeds a threshold. This means all graders need to have a clear list of errors AND a total number of printed copies (e.g 50,000 copies) per printing (eg. 1st printing).

A-1 Comics, will a printers crease affect the grade at CGC? A common example I can give is the printers crease on the cover of Marvel Team-Up 100. The crease is often in 1 or 2 places on that cover on the middle and lower right side of the front cover. Thank you.
