honestly I really liked this when it came out and had a LOT of the same issues with it as you but still found it enjoyable. Cyclops is my favorite X-Man and this version really irritated me(still does) but still like the and the second film. most fans including myself hate the third film. I agree they should have used the first class of students for the team with wolverine as a side character joining in, as for the movie X-Men First Class... I hate that film most of all for too many reasons to list as this a long enough comment already.

"You actually go outside in these things?" "Well, what would you prefer, yellow spandex?" Fun Fact: Oakley Glasses gave James Marsden a lifetime supply of sunglasses. Stan Lee Cameo Fact: X-Men creator Stan "The Man" Lee appears near a hot dog stand on the beach. Check Mate Fact: Neither Sir Patrick Stewart nor Sir Ian McKellen knew how to play chess during filming. A chess master came in to teach them. Stunt SNAFU Fact: Rebecca Romijn actually kicked Bruce Davison in the face in Mystique's reveal scene. She didn't mean to hit him so hard, but Davison forgave her. What Script Fact: The scene in the train station where a young boy smiles at Cyclops and he smiles back was unplanned. The boy was a huge X-Men fan, and Cyclops was his favorite. The scene originally called for Cyclops to look at the train schedule, but according to director Bryan Singer, the boy could not stop smiling at James Marsden. Finally, during one shot, Marsden just looked back at him and smiled, much to the boy's delight. Bryan Singer liked the idea so much, he kept it in the movie, and told the actress playing the boy's mother to react the way she did. Method Actor Fact: Hugh Jackman took ice-cold showers every morning of filming in order to help get into character. This tradition started when jumping into the shower at 5 a.m. before realizing there was no hot water. Shocked awake but not wanting to wake his sleeping wife, he gritted his teeth and bore it before realizing that this mindset, wanting to scream and lash out at something, but having to hold it in, was the mentality that Wolverine is in constantly. He then made cold showers his Wolverine preparation routine for each movie featuring the character. Make-Up Shenanigans Fact: Rebecca Romijn's make-up as Mystique consisted of 110 custom-designed prostheses, which covered sixty percent of her body and took nine hours to apply. She could not drink wine, use skin creams, nor fly the day before filming because it could have caused her body chemistry to change slightly, causing the prosthetics to fall off. To celebrate her last day on-set, Rebecca Romijn brought in a bottle of tequila, which she gave to her fellow cast and crew during a break in filming. Unfortunately, that day she happened to be filming the Wolverine and Mystique fight scene, and she threw up blue-colored vomit (from the chemicals in her make-up) all over Hugh Jackman.

6:40 the trucker is played by George Buza who was the voice actor for Dr. Hank McCoy aka Beast in the OG 90’s animated series and he reprises his role in the new continuing animated series X-Men 97’. Such a fun cameo in this! Idk if he was in the shows you mentioned 😉😁

For me, who only watched the 90's Comic series next to the amazing spiderman, I was just glad that they made a movie out of a cartoon series that I knew about. And being a Trekkie on top, seeing Cpt. Picard in another leading role was icing on the take. The 4 Movies of the first crew of x-men have a special place in my heart. I rewatch them on a regular basis.

I fint it so funy that back in the day the studio was so adamant that you couldn't do the original costumes at all; and then we got the first look of Wolverine in the new movie and it was clear that spandex might have looked weird but leather and other materials? I think WandaVision made a neat mockery out of this, too, with the Halloween episode

I was a 90’s youth that loved the X-Men animated series. Similarly to your experience, I had hoped to see something beloved from my childhood explode to life on the big screen with these movies. After viewing this first film it was clear they were going in a more loosely “inspired by” direction. Going into the second film I had adjusted my expectations and like you, decided to take these films on their own accord. For all their mishaps, I actually do enjoy the majority of these films and there are a few actors and actresses I wouldn’t mind seeing play these characters again on the big screen should the story allow for it in the future. Marvel has always had a decent track record with casting and the Fox X-Verse has some of the best! Overall, imo, these films do manage to capture the foundation, relevance, and spirit of the X-Men stories as a whole. I will say that the OG animated series and the new continuation X-Men 97’ are still the bar to meet in terms of any live action X-Men film adaptations, and there are a couple that meet that bar in the Fox film verse, in my opinion anyway. Hopefully, Kevin Feige has learned a thing or two about how to handle a team of superheroes in the last 24+ years 🤞🤞

I am a fan of most of these movies even though I didn't care much about changes made to certain characters, but I overlooked them by just telling myself that these aren't the X-MEN I grew up with. They're just another version of them in the infinite worlds of the Multi-verse. I mean if there can be a frog Thor, literally any variation is possible.

Honestly, they all have something worthwhile. X2 is overall great. X3 The Last Stand is actually a really good X-Men movie adapting 'the Cure' storyline from the animated series and Whedon's Astonishing Run, but it's overshadowed by the abysmal Phoenix adaptation being glued into it as well. Origins: Wolverine is not bad at all until the third act kind of tanks the whole thing. The Wolverine I always thought was pretty good but the third act is again its weak point. Wolverine should have shown more control and martial arts form to his fighting as character growth in the final fight. First Class I didn't like because its another one that's egregious in just throwing characters in with no notion of continuity or characters being right, but most love it. It's a good plot, though. Days of Future Past is one of the best in the series. Apocalypse I haven't rewatched but it's hard to recall something particularly good about it. Dark Phoenix was better than Apocalypse and the final fight sequence is well done, but overall it's disappointing, especially considering it was originally written to be a 2 part film and include the Shi'ar. Logan is obviously a dark send off, but artistically fantastic. Then, of course, both Deadpool films are great at being Deadpool films.

As a viewer who doesn't have extensive knowledge on comic books for Xmen and only has Xmen Evolution as a reference I think this is a good stand alone film was good. It asked you questions that difficult to really answer. Sir Ian Meckellen and Sir Patrick Steward are actually long time real friends in life, Hugh Jackman was close to not getting this role because he's to tall, but in end his acting won them over, and I think he charmed them being Auzzie. And I'll applaud Rebecca Romjin as Mystique for sitting in that make up chair for hours. (NOT EXAGGERATING) She really did. And just being on set basically naked. 💐👏👏👏. And to answer your question yes, only if I get to choose the power if not then no. Some powers while cool interferes with your day to day interactions with family, friends, loved ones. Like Rogue, cool power vut would suck, she can never hug someone, hold someones hand, kiss anyone, thats a very lonely life.

Yeah, it was a good film. Like over the years when the topic of this movie came up. People who didn't know much about the comics loved this film. While a few of my friends who also were heavy into the comics only thought it was "Okay". But yeah, the casting was great in some areas for sure. I enjoyed the story and most of the dialogue. Yeah it would be a gamble to roll the dice an see what mutant powers you'd get, but I think it's take the chance. haha Rogues powers have a huge flaw for sure, in the comics it's been a constant struggle, and she's left the team a few times to go find herself and to try and deal with it. Can't wait to get onto X-men 2.

I was ticked when I saw this film in theaters, as I didn't like her portrayal at all. Fox really did Cyclops dirty. They totally cucked him so we would root for Logan and Jean hooking up (because Wolverine was Marvel's most popular mutant, and they saw him as a cash cow). Feige will definitely restore Cyclops as the cool, decisive, tactical genius, hand picked by Professor X as the first-ever X-Man, James Bond-level ladies' man, Omega-level badass, when he appears in the MCU. All I want is some remote visor triggers in his gloves. Just like when I started reading the X-Men comic books, during the Claremont/Byrne era. Scott should never again have to do that stupid salute every time he takes a shot. Touching hand to visor is an obvious signal to the enemy, for starters. And what if he can't touch his visor for some reason? He's screwed. For decades in the comics, Cyclops had remote visor triggers in his gloves. You can't tell me that Hank McCoy couldn't figure out Bluetooth technology before breakfast, and have the prototypes built by lunch time. Make it happen, Marvel!

A lot of Jean's role in this film was originally meant to be Beast. He was supposed to be the one speaking before Congress and doing the tests on Logan, but they just found it diluted the cast to having too many small roles, so he was trimmed from the script and Jean was given more of his role. Since you said you never watched the others, Beast's addition in X3 The Last Stand is probably the best part of that film, played perfectly by Kelsey Grammer. All the films do Cyclops dirty, though. Liev Schrieber is a PHENOMENAL Sabertooth in Origins: Wolverine, though. And it's nice decades later to see Deadpool & Wolverine proving the fans were right: The yellow costume would work on film. The worst thing this film did was influence the comics where Grant Morrison's run basically took the black leather suits and started trying to be more imitations of the film. Ultimate X-Men was already supposed to do that as a new starting point for new readers.

I tried getting into Marvel when I started reading comics in the '60s, but they were serialized and the resale shop I bought them from wasn't as reliable a source to find the continuations, so I spent my nickels mostly on DC comics and missed out on the X-men until later. Agree with most of what you said, and reasons why you didn’t like it first time. I read everything X-Men from the ‘60s to late ‘80s, and wasn’t happy with the changes. Plus there are some problems with the editing of the film that don’t help with story telling. But In was in my 30s when this was released, and was willing to look past the changes, as I could see they were adaptions for a general audience. I was just so happy to see X-Men at the cinema. Now the general audience is so accustomed to superheroes that they can tell more comic accurate stories.

The thing about the costumes is that this was made in a post- Batman & Robin, post- Blade world. Audiences had rejected the colorful, campy nature of comics. They wanted bad-ass heroes in bad-ass costumes. (Spider-Man is always an exception, to pretty much all rules.) It wasn't until years later that audiences embraced original comic book styles. In retrospect, this looks silly because the MCU has proven that comic-canon costumes work.

Or you can give your opinion as filmmaking and audience pov and then also your opinion as an Xmen comicbook reader, in that way we get both covered. Don't hold back. You're in for a ride!

I haven’t read the comics but from the movies it seems like he wants to do to the human race what was done to his people and subjugate what he sees as lesser magneto i mean btw

This franchise gets way too much crap from fan boys. The first X-Men movie is good. X2 is even better... as a movie. But the best is still to come. X-Men Days of Future Past and Logan are among the Top 3 superhero movies ever made

Same duder, i was a omega level X-Fan before the 2000s so when this movie came out it bored me to tears and i avoided all the foxmen movies. they def never did the X-fam justice.

Growing up as a comic book reading kid and fan of the 90's animation... i despise...DESPISE...these X-Men movies... I lose my shh internally everytime I see people say Hugh Jackman is a great Wolverine... I enjoyed the Deadpool films merely from a comedic view, R Rating, and always liked Ryan Reynolds... but cringed when hearing they were doing one with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. I thought these movies were going to be the epitome of hopes v expectations and being disappointed...but wow did MCU demolish Planet Hulk w their Thor movie... 😢 a comic that made me actually cry warped into something so rage inducing... 😂 Am I strange for still wanting a Sam Raimi Spider-Man come back with a huge arnold Schwarzenegger looking Eddie Brock/Venom played more as a horror themed film... 😂 those Sony Venom movies are so atrocious...never would've guessed a pg 13 buddy cop franchise...

I lovee Rogue, but Fox did her sooo dirty in all X-MEN movies. Powerless and boring 😭

14:05 I mean you could have started with First Class if you like that timeline better before this movie or start with Wolverine Origins and then go to this. You don’t like this movie because it should have come second canonically. Release order does suck. There are two time line orders but they both end and start over so you can watch them again or go to the next timeline. That’s my understanding

I thought this was a fun movie. Unfortunately, it has one of the dumbest lines ever from Storm.

“The same thing as everything else.” I think a better actress could have made that line work.

I heard that the line had more context in the deleted scenes.
