Reason 4: Insurance. Mean that two ways: A) with collectibles insurance, there will be little to no debate over the market value of a graded book vs. a raw book. B) if I get hit by a bus tomorrow, my wife, who knows nothing about comic books, can list the graded book on Ebay (or with Dave!), and the market will give her full value for it with minimal effort on her part. Would be much more difficult for her to get full value (and to answer potential buyers' questions about the book's condition) if the book is raw.

Let's face it, grading with CGC is out. Given all of the problems they are having lately, using their services is a bad bet. This leaves CBCS. However, even though they are a better slabbing service (in everyway), the resale value is lower for a CBCS than a CGC. Why? I have no idea. Therefore, this is why I have stopped slabbing. Maybe PSA will be the only logical choice, but I will be waiting at least a year after they start slabbing to see what the feedback will be.

I think the tide will turn pretty soon as CGC is now BENDING every comic they grade. It's almost as if they want to go out of business.

I posted in many comment section on the CBCS thing. I don’t get it either. Even in this video, he said PSA has been grading sporting cards for years…Well so has Beckett. And Beckett is who owns CBCS. Maybe if they called themselves Beckett Comic Book Grading Service instead, (BCGS) that would resolve this? Not sure.

Retuned 24 CGC cases today - bowed down the middle - waves, ripples and new ticks stress along the spine…or, just simply scratched / scuffed. Not acceptable. 90% return rate from last 3 boxes.

Other than (major) keys slabbing is not worth the time, expense, or effort to submit. Now…as a buyer of books then slabs are actually a deal. Because of the drop in values, buying cheap slabs (please…no modern) may be a great way to find value for all of the reasons Dave mentioned. So…buy cheap slabs and buy cheap (but well reviewed) raw’s. Don’t submit unless you have a high quality key. BTW, nice band Dave. You’re a solid lead with good writing. Best !

With respect David you’re undervaluing EGS, I’ve been a very happy customer for over 2 years now. I just sent my Fantastic Four 3 signed by Stan Lee over to EGS because they are reliable. CGC has destroyed its reputation, CBCS has its own problems and PSA won’t be up and running until next spring.

I saw another video saying if your comic is signed, getting it slabbed would be an idea because it would preserve the signature, and like another comment posted if something happens to you and you pass away, people will ask your family where did they get signed? And your family may have no idea so they’ll question if the signature is real or not

The reason i have started grading books that i have zero intention of selling... Estate planning. This helps my heirs, that are not collectors, to get the most value they can from the collection. Once the grade is there they only need to look into the current sale prices, and not worry about a potentially dishonest LCS owner taking advantage of them.

“Reputable ones like CGC” that’s hilarious in the current situation. Also slabs don’t add protection, there’s aftermarket products that’s are actually archival unlike most slabs. Right now odd the time to boycott grading we are all being scammed

The issue is that once these comics are graded and slabbed for protection, there is still a “decaying” process that is occurring as the book is interacting with new elements and outside elements like temperature and light. It’s a slower condition deterioration but it is happening. I feel that comics, like anything of value will have to be re evaluated at the future point t of sale. No way am I paying 10k for a 9.8 that was graded 15 years ago without having it checked again by a professional. I’d want to see the interior too of the expensive book I was investing in. Just my opinion.

Yeah, we think time in a static way, but the future can hold many inconveniences related to comics: pets, children, moist, insects, fire, falls, moving, etc.

I only get the comics I want to sell graded by CGC. It takes the hassle of arguing about grades with a potential buyer. I will also purchase graded books for that same reason unless I know the seller and his/her skills at grading books raw.

I've seen numerous youtube videos of people who get there comics back from CGC and then sit there and tell me they don't think the grade is correct. It's so funny to watch those.

I find also that when I try to sell a slab buyers don't analize the costs properly. They don't take into account the slabbing, shipping, customs, etc and they want a too low price. Here in Spain most people don't know sh.. about usa comics. And we get very harsh gradings from CGC, we don't know why. Maybe there's an "Europe section" in CGC..?

Thanks Dave I got a lot of friends that are anti cgc ,but I enjoy sending them in to get graded some grades I do not agree on But there again I'm not a professional grader, but I do have some books that are bowed recent submissions not sure what to do. Their customer service is awful. Thought about going to the other grading company cbcs. I'm fairly new at this your videos help thanks again.

Look there are books that by rights I should slab -- higher grade GA, various other keys, or rarer books with low or no census -- but frankly, I am just kind of scared at this point.

Grading to make sure theres no resto before selling somewhere down the road. PS Super Choked: paid 150 for CGC membership then found out each invoice is shipped separately with handling and shipping fees for each invoice. The july silver age discount was negated as I wanted to grade higher value with a few JSA authentication as well. Rant is over (tho I could add CGC would bundle to Canada but won't for domestic, like what?).

I have a few anime comics I'm not sure If I wanna wait to grade with psa. I definitely wouldn't grade sonic with psa because all my books are cgc. Just don't know if they brand recognition will make it valuable or not

I’m completely done with grading freaking cgc has become garbage CBCS has crap resale value. I’ll sit it out and see how psa does I collected cards for years I know psa won’t become idiotic like cgc.
