Smallville is honestly one of the best depictions of the Superman character and a faithful take on the Superman/DC universe. It is why I became Superman fan in the first place
@LocalMan226 жыл бұрын
Smallville was NOT a "faithful take on the Superman/DC universe." The show introduced many characters way too early, and substantially distorted many of the villains and side characters. For example, the comics version had young Clark flying around in the "Superboy" suit for many years in Smallville long before he moved to Metropolis. (I grew up reading many of those comics.) That doesn't stop it from being a fun show, but it must be viewed as it's own separate continuity.
@michealmahmoud63916 жыл бұрын
@@LocalMan22 Superboy and Other silver age comics did comics where Clark met heroes and villains before he became Superman. The villains had a lot of similarities to the comic. Metallo was similar to silver age John Corben (Daily planet reporter, vying for Lois Lane, pretending to be a hero) and Roger Corben (wanted revenge for the death of his loved one which he believed was caused by Superman/The Blur), Brainiac was inspired by his Superman TAS version with Milton Fine from the Post Crisis comics, Lex is essentially his silver/bronze age counterpart raised by the John Byrne Lex Luthor. Just because Clark didn't wear the Supermam outfit as a teenager like those comics when he met those characters doesn't mean those comics didn't do the same type of thing that Smallville or Gotham did. There is no one way to portray these characters and villains so it isn't fair to say they distorted it anymore than Iron Man distort the characters or Young Justice or Justice League/Justice League Unlimited. That seems like a backwards argument everytime just because one character wore a certain costume and another hero didn't especially considering the time Smallville came out. He was still the first publicly embraced heroes and as the sequel comics, "Smallville season 11", he was still Superman and had a lot of Superman adventures facing Metallo, Moniters, Darkseid, Lex Luthor, etc and meeting Green Lantern, Batman and Wonder Woman for the first time so it wasn't a big deal. It would have been boring if it was just the Post Crisis Superman's childhood and the audience wasn't ready for a mature Superboy tv show yet. I said Smallville was mainly a modernization Richard Donner Superman ( a lot of references through quotes, designs and Easter eggs, the personality is similar to Clark as a teenager in Superman the movie , how his father died, elements of Krypton and the creation of the Fortress of Solitude, ) and Post Crisis (Clark became Superman at 25, high school football star, he was saving people in secret between Smallville and Metropolis, Clark was more the main personality, Ma and Pa Kent were younger and more personality) with elements of silver age and modern comics imbued in it. Not that it directly followed the silver age comics. Besides in 80+ years of Superman origins, he has several different backstories and no 2 were alike or even did the same thing as the last. I said it should be viewed as it's own thing but that doesn't mean it wasn't faithful to the comics. It had a lot of elements it adapted to the comics into the tv show adaption pretty well. Smallville never said it was trying to follow the Post Crisis Superman or any one version of Superman. It was trying to show why a normal kid would want to become Superman by deconstructing the elements that were important in the Superman mythos (his double identity as the reporter for the Daily Planet, the fact that he is a public proactive superhero who can fly and willingly wear tights saving people, his embracing both his Kryptonian and human side, his love in Lois) and shows him and the audience learning the importance of those trappings and why he chose to do those things as Superman.
@OneWingdAnge16 жыл бұрын
Somebody Save Me! I Love Smallville. I must say it did test my patience, waiting for Superman to fly but when he finally did so satisfying. 🙂
@@OneWingdAnge1 Honestly I enjoyed that part. The idea that it took away/deconstructed the important trappings of the Superman mythos/character (instead of being a public hero confident and proactive, he was more comfortable saving people in secret. He didn't want to be a reporter at first. He couldn't fly and didn't wear glasses and didn't like the idea of wearing a costume/tights, instead of embracing his Kryptonian and Human side, he was uncomfortable in both natures) and let each part get added in slowly and showed Clark/audience learning the importance of each element and why Superman chose to be that type of hero instead of a Batman type hero. Same thing they did with every character. The build up made each element worth it imo. Not to mention making Clark have a personal impact on each hero he met showing why Superman is viewed as an important part of the DC Universe outside of his powers and because "he's Superman" (being a big brother figure, always having someone's back, his morals and the fact he inspired people to be more/do more).

@@cloudrunner7 I agree with you! Same thing happened to Chloe's mom; she was blond in the hospital when we first saw her from the back, then _Wonder Woman HERSELF_ Linda Carter was used in the expanded role. I visibly assumed that the maximum had expanded some centimeters inside the bomb (3 centimeters to be exact), and then I assumed that Clark took the explosive to approximately one kilometer away from the hospital at the same time that the explosion takes 3 centimeters, and so the result came out. It's kind of ironic that the most powerful version of live action Superman, is the one who didn't want his powers the most. Then in the Crisis crossover he ends up giving all his power away. It really was a fitting end to Smallville.

In the season 05 episode Hidden, Clark casually shrugs off the effects of a nuclear explosion. For comparison, Reeve's Superman needed moment to catch his breath after surviving a nuclear explosion in space in Superman II while Cavill's Superman got temporarily decimated by a nuclear explosion in space in Batman V Superman. So, yes, Smallville Superman is freaking tough.

Considering this was based on the silver age superman (the best one in my opinon) the answer is very very strong. Supergirls kryptonians are pathetic in comparason. Long live TW, the true Clark Kent.
@sophisticatednebula42366 жыл бұрын
Not only pathetic, but they also made Clark weaker than Supergirl even after having a 20 year headstart to feed their feminist agendas
@TheDragonaf16 жыл бұрын
@@sophisticatednebula4236 Its not feminism its actually true in the comic continuity, new 52, rebirth and golden age (i think) all versions of supergirl/powergirl are stronger than superman. It was just executed very porky in the tv show, in the comics its more elegant. The best way to describe the difference is like Wally West and Barry Allan. Barry Allan is more skilled with the speed force even though Wally has a stronger connection to it. In a straight sprint Wally wins, but in an actual fight Barry wins. In New 52 and rebirth in the 20 years that Clark is on Earth, Karra is orbiting the sun and absorbing a lot of solar radiation, she was so strong in fact that she was able to remove a red lantern ring without assistance, which alone makes her one of the strongest beings in the universe. Plus you have to remember her life purpose was to protect Clark until he grew to be the universes greatest hero meaning she was already proficient with her powers, even in smallvile (up until season 8 and some parts of 10) Kara is stronger, Clark and Jorel both admit this - she can fly and resist the darkness because she doesn't see herself as human. Punch for punch she is stronger but Clark has more positional and is more proficient with all of his powers, not just brute strength.
@sophisticatednebula42366 жыл бұрын
@@TheDragonaf1 Ahh I see. I'd never heard of her orbiting the sun aspect. The only reason I knew from the comics as to why Kara is stronger is because Clark spent years limiting himself and creating a mental block, in turn making him weaker

With the pushing away apokalips feat, you forgot to calculate in the mass of the planet due to it's velocity. Speed adds to mass, so that number you put up there is A Lot lower than what was really going down.
