The problem with Sylvester Stallone's Judge Dredd movie is that he took off his helmet and they gave him a love interest. Both of those things should never happen
@Thetazord7 жыл бұрын
Mercy's Little Show given that point and the lack of Anderson in the Stallone Dredd, how is that version more like the comic than the new one. I feel it's the opposite. Though I'm not as huge of a Judge Dredd pool of knowledge as I am about other comic characters. So, that comment they made kinda made me do a metaphorical double take.

Hail! The Bard reporting in! A grand showing! The events of these crossovers might be alternate universe/elsewordlsy stuff as far as Batman is concerned but they are 100% canonical in the Dredd comics. Indeed, the next time the Dark Judges all got back together, references were made to 'that Gotham clown'. Also, Dredd and Anderson never had a 'thing'. I reacted exactly as you predicted. In fact, Dredd has never had a thing with anyone - it's illegal for a Judge to do so. The judges of MC1 live like monks. no personal lives or concerns outside of the Law. Andersen though... well maybe. PSI judges have quite a bit of leniency because of the pressure their powers place them under. One of them is even religious! I always have a laugh when people realise Dredd isn't strict science fiction and that there are ghosts and wizards and the like. Maybe one day I'll tell you about one of Dredd's other arch-foes, the giant tyrannosaur, Satanus!

For anyone who doesn't know judge dread is a political satire so the stories may be kind of strange. It takes place in an alt future but constantly makes references to modern events, celebrities and political happenings. Dredd is a guy who follows the law to the extreme, his organization is very fascist. They keep order but trample personal freedoms and anything that doesn't obey them is destroyed /killed. After someone dies in this world the body is taken broken down and the proteins used to make food ( an example of the weirdness)

I think a big reason that the Batman and Judge Dredd crossovers happened, was because Alan Grant, a very prolific writer for 2000 AD, was writing most Batman titles (and Lobo, and Legion, and Etrigan "The Demon") for DC during the 90s.

Your analysis of the first Dredd/Batman crossover pretty much matched my reaction when I first read it. Especially the surprise at Dredd being such a complete and total fascist. After only seeing the Stallone film, I was really shocked by how much more of a total and uncompromising bastard he really was in the comics. It was essentially what made me a fan for life. It was just so refreshing to have a protagonist you could loathe as much as love. It was like watching a Star Wars movie where Darth Vader was the lead protagonist.
@DoctorDodge2 жыл бұрын
@@Dan200 yeah, a lot. The Cursed Earth, Necropolis, Origins, and many of the case files that collect the early comics. But what really blew me away was America. That’s honestly one of my favourite graphic novels of all time. I love how Dredd is barely used in the story, but he and the judges have such terrifying presence throughout. And it’s a very emotional and human story, too. Over the years, I’ve seen Dredd be a hero as much of a villain, but I’ve also seen him evolve into a very complex character.

Can't see the people from 2000AD objecting to Alan Moore. By the end of The Killing Joke he'd pretty much had enough of working with DC. He'd left 2000AD by '86, and wasn't prepared to go back without the rights to his own work. So, yeah, not likely to happen even by the late eighties.
