K6BD does have anime influence, but that influence is pretty minor. The rest of it is influenced by the lore that Michael Kirkbride wrote for Morrowind, Hinduism, Buddhism, Gnosticism, regular Christianity, and the art is influenced by the art of Jean Giraud (AKA Moebius).

Awesome video, was not expecting Saturday AM love but it is welcome. I've always heard of battle chasers and kills 6 billion demons whenever I got a chance to read them but thanks it is real definitely will. If you're interested in a company that doesn't have the mixture of Manga and comics check out iconic comics, They have series like kamen America and They have series like kamen America and blackhops. By the way the publishing company that published radiant also has a bunch of other longest dial stories from space punch to their most well-known animated series and I'm surprised is an on here for French wakfu/doufs.

The “reactionary hacks” have done more for the comic industry than you, or this idiot ever will. His point about how comics were “always inspired by Manga” is completely invalid. The comics that were “inspired” by Manga back then, only attempted to be poor emulations of what people actually liked, and did not actually have anything of what makes Manga so good.

Aside from the huge ass strawman argument at the beginning, this is a very solid video. I've watched most of those videos that you referenced in the beginning. They're argument isn't that manga is inherently better than comics per se. It's that manga is succeeding in the west because manga stories are more focused on good storytelling and respecting their core audiences, whereas western comics nowadays are more focused on being overtly political at the expense of insulting their core/majority audiences' tastes and sensibilities, as well as the estrangement said audience. If you actually watched those videos, you'd see that most of those KZbinrs lament the decline of western comics. In other words, they want comics to succeed but they're seeing where it's not succeeding and attributing that to the excessive presence of woke propaganda, tone deafness, and comic creators straight up dissing their core demographics, among other things. So, when they say western comics be more like manga to succeed, they're not talking about aesthetics or design or even themes. These KZbinrs are talking about western publishers and creators adopting a less antagonistic and/or political approach to marketing their books if they want said books to sell. Ultimately, whether or not any of this is true is moot (their observations are mostly correct, imo) but they're definitely not claiming what you say they're claiming. In any case, I appreciate the history lesson. I did learn a few things I didn't know. So, Thank you
@THEMANGALOG10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your well put critique and appreciation. While looking back now, I do agree that I constructed a straw man, I also agree with some of the points those creators have stated in the past as well. I do believe that some of the Big 2's output is very much marketed and at times written for demographics in a preachy, belittling way. I also believe that The Big 2 suffer from far more problems than just an aggressive marketing strategy and intentional alienation of their core fanbase. Comics are selling FINE, but they could 100% sell better.

@@THEMANGALOG It's all good, man. We all want comics (whether eastern or western) to win. That's what's most important. And to add a bit more to what I said in my original comment: it's not like manga never gets political (Full-Metal Alchemist and Attack on Titan come to mind), they often do. It's just that they do it way better by a) putting the politics in the subtext, so that readers only have to engage with it if they want to and can enjoy the story at a surface level; b) arguing both the proposition and opposition in good faith, so that readers can decide for themselves which position resonates with them more, and c) creating niches for the audiences they're trying to appeal to, instead of forcing something else to be what it's not for the sake of "diversity" and "representation". In other words, mangaka create all kinds of comics for all kinds of people, as opposed to trying to represent every kind of person in every comic. For example, if gay romance or representation is the primary focu, there's the shounen-ai and yaoi niches for that. So a person who isn't into that isn't forced to encounter it in their hyper masculine, heteronormative battle shounen series. And guess what? If the latter person _does_ at some point want to read a gay romance they can grab a yaio title and engage with that community, on their own terms. And vice versa. So the way how manga is set up, nobody has to infringe on anybody's rights or representation. These are some of the reasons, if not the main reasons, why manga seems to be winning. (Sorry for the mini essay again 😅)
