Here's the thing about Joker's argument that no one seems to mention: The rules that he rails against were created specifically because the world is cruel and random, to mitigate the chaos as much as possible. The chaos of existence will never fully go away, but it can be fended off. Society has chosen to fight chaos because it's cruel, because it's unjust, because despite the evil that exists in the world, most people unlike the Joker, want something better.

One of the Joker’s issues is that he doesn’t believe people can change or be inspired. That’s literally why the Batman Who Laughs lost: He was literally so completely and absolutely convinced that the ones fighting him were fighting a pointless and hopeless battle, that the Hands were going to erase all of reality no matter what, but despite having the mentality of Batman and the Joker, he’d still also inherited the Joker’s flaws. And in defiance of everything the Darkest Knight believed, Wonder Woman’s actions literally inspired the Hands to not only restore reality, but they decided to remove all limits, enabling three whole infinite Multiverses - and Omniverse that included their main Multiverse and Elsewhere.

Because Joker more accurately reflects our chaotic and broken society. Make no mistake, I hold Superman's virtues and beliefs above the others but Joker has a cruel reality about his thoughts. Scott Snyders the last knight, I think it was, shows the apparent futility in Superman's belief system...

@@DanRyzESPUK the Joker has no point to validate tho, he says the truth is that anyone can go insane in the right circumstances so who cares, but then actively creates those situations in people's lives, obviously trying to make spectacle of it. Which means that chaos doesn't just exist, it's him, he is the perpetrator at fault and he can't claim that no one should have say because he is clearly looking for a reaction - therefore there must be something to say. Injustice Superman was completely correct about one thing - the Joker's continued existence is Batman's greatest failure. To leave chaos of that level alive to run rampant is to become a accomplice.

Thing is he is a weak coward. We have seen time and again if Batman leaves he gives up, he tends to stop. Which show most of what he did through all the years are nothing but lies to comfort himself. Otherwise he would continue on, he needs a reason to do what he does and his obsession is Bruce. Nothing more, nothing less. Bruce on the other hand just goes on as normal if Joker isn't there. Which hurts Joker more than hr can ever admit.

EEEEEEExactly. Joker didn't make batman. It was a thug with a gun at the end of the day. Joker is just a colorful iteration. More dangerous but just a new form of something more simple.

Carl Jung introduced the idea of the “shadow self”. Joker is the embodiment of the shadow self, while Batman is the embodiment of the persona. This duality theme is seen in many pieces of literature; Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Fight Club’s Tyler Durden and idk, the other guy, etc. Although we’ve seen this play out in all kinds of stories, the specific stories you brought up, where it’s almost as if the writers were taking inspiration directly from Jung’s work, is a fantastic nod to the depth of the psychological dance between these two characters. They diametrically oppose one another, but together, make a whole person.

I've to say though, I see Joker more as a chaotic disorder character because he's always disrupting order in a maniacally way, it just seems to be more in order because he's too good at it but he's just playing his "role" as he said. But the Joker is wrong. He didn't have one bad day. He was already unstable. Two-Face hid away all his emotions until it snapped. From the outside, it looks like he had one bad day, but he didn't. Jason Todd didn't become Red Hood purely because of his death. He was already very violent and didn't like the no killing rule. In fact, even after torturing Gorden, he remains sane because he actually just had one bad day. It isn't one event that made people snap. The event is the straw that broke the camel's back.
