I think you may have diluted Doctor Manhattan's character a bit here. It's nothing so simple as him being alone in the world as a being with higher intelligence and perception than everyone else. His whole thing is that he perceives every single moment of his life, past, present, and future, as if they're all happening at once. He can't change his future because to him it's as if it's already happening. Imagine if you had to live every moment of your life as if they were all still happening, and you could do nothing but watch as they all transpired. It's really no wonder he withdraws from his emotions. That's what his monologue on mars is all about, he's watching his father throw the pieces of his wristwatch out the window, he's meeting his first love for the first time, he's enduring the accident that made him what he is, he's struggling to reform his own disintegrated body, he's witnessing the Vietnam war, he's fighting and breaking up with his first love, he's meeting his second love, he's finding out that everyone he knows is getting cancer, and so much more, all at one time.

@Nathan Trujillo You don't know that. For years I was watching his channel as my only source, I just didn't have a way to read comics. I've been reading comics for about 2 years now cause my stores finally started selling them. My point is, you don't know people's situation. They could be very knowledgeable and a full blown fan and not actually read the comics.

I had never made the connection to Night Owl and Captain America - I always imagined him as more of a Batman satire: both have names that are allusions to creatures of the night (bats and owls), both use high-tech gadgets; hell, even both of their costumes look very similar. But where Bruce Wayne is charming and charismatic, Daniel Dreiberg is awkward and introverted. I always thought Alan Moore was playing off the theme of identity: Bruce Wayne is really the alter-ego of Batman, designed to make his peers think, "he could never be batman." But Batman is the real identity, the real essence of the man. But Dreiberg? He's so awkward no one would assume he's a hero - as Night Owl, however, he undoubtedly is a hero. So who is the alter-ego? Dreiberg or Night Owl? I appreciate the lines you've drawn between Night Owl and Captain America - it got me re-thinking about my favorite superhero story. Thank you for the video!

Just thinking the same thing, Niteowl is the tech side, and Rorschach is the psychosis without any restraint or decency. I'd forgotten what a horrible creature Rorschach was, the film muddles that part.

NiteOwl and Rorschach are basically messed up version of Blue Beetle and the Question, whose lives ended up crappy after their years of fighting crime. NiteOwl ends up retired, lonely and depressed after all these years while Rorschach, who keep fighting and started brutalising criminals, ended up becoming a renegade vigilante hunted down by the police both for his actions and his violation of the Keene Act. It's interesting to think what could have happened if those particular characters went through a similar kind of situation. And yeah, you could interpret these for Batman as well, in certain continuities.

I never really got into reading comics. Back when I was a teen, my uncle gave me a bunch of Wolverine comics and such and they were cool but they were mid series and out of order so I didn't really read them all that much. Then my auntie (not my uncle's wife, different auntie) got me the Watchmen book. That was my first proper experience to comics and man was it good. I wanted to go back and read it but never got around to finishing it again but it's crazy the amount of stuff I missed. I'm really excited for this series you're doing Rob. I hope I understood everything in the book and I'll see when the relevant video comes out. It's cool seeing the psychopath nature of Rorchach, the sociopathic nature of the Comdian and the disconnect of Dr. Manhatten's humanity as time passes. It's a really good story and I can't wait for the next video already. :D

small thing Robert. in your video you refer to Laurie as Miss Jupiter. though it is in de comic that here family and mother used the name jupiter during the 2nd WW and a period after that. Silkspectle/Lauri uses here original family name Juspeczyk. a small fact that the movie left out an just used Jupiter as the family name.
