I think DC should leave the Watchmen alone. It was a standalone one shot comic book series, a graphic novel, that wasn't meant to be expanded. I feel like they are muddying the waters with the Watchmen Legacy.

The way I see it is, as long as the original still is out there, it can still be enjoyed. This is true even if characters are changed or events are retconned in subsequent comics.

MORE WATCHMEN! I really enjoy these stories because the characters and events are easier to relate to life. I don't know about super powers, but there are true life vigilantes out there. Obviously, the story is designed to entertain, but it doesn't seem quite as fictional as Superman fighting Darkseid. A vigilante more down to earth than batman is more comfortable to read, and having just one super powered "person?" shows it's just as unbelievable for readers as for characters, and that builds a sort of attachment to the characters.
