Welcome to today's sermon, "Coming Back Home." Last Sunday, we explored Luke 15, where Jesus taught three parables in response to the judgmental attitudes of the scribes and Pharisees: The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin, and The Prodigal Son. These parables highlight the joy in repentance and God’s desire for us to return to Him. Today, we emphasize that it’s always okay-and indeed best-to come back to God after sinning. While we often fear judgment, God’s grace and forgiveness are unwavering. Salvation by grace assures us that we can always return, and God's promises are eternal (2 Corinthians 1:20, Romans 11:29). Jesus’ teaching on forgiveness, instructing us to forgive others seventy times seven (Matthew 18:21-22), reflects God’s infinite forgiveness towards us.
God’s discipline aims for our good, encouraging us to strengthen our faith (Hebrews 12:6-12), and He invites us to cast all our cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7). Though we may face consequences for our actions, God’s restoration and blessings are evident in the lives of Samson, David, and Peter. Remember Matthew 11:28-30: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." No matter how far you’ve strayed, God is waiting with open arms. Come back home and find rest in Him.
