This is my biggest difficulty after playing for four years. A lot of the time, I think it stems from only being able to really only think two shots ahead instead of three. Playing good pool requires a lot more mental acumen than I thought it did when I started. Thats why I agree with you about Efren being the best ever: he was consistently a move ahead of his opponents.

I am glad you devoted a whole vid to this, DrDave. Finally. The single most important principle of pattern play imo. Niels Feijin did a video just on this subject too a week ago. His was excellent. Yours is even more definitive. I do think you should get yourself a Diamond. I get the sentimental value of your Olhausen. Maybe you could expand your basement and fit two tables! Put it this way. When Jeremy of Bullseye refers to your table as ‘slow’ - I am working my way thru all 200 shots - then it’s time. It really is.

Thank you. I appreciate the support. FYI, the Bullseye Billiards stuff was filmed many years ago on my old 8’ table. It was slow. I am honestly not a fan of Diamonds, mostly due to the bouncy rails. They make the tables play extremely fast and make kicks and banks go much shorter than they should: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/bank-kick/Diamond

I see. The table did not look like a nine footer. I should have realized that. Didn’t know the Bulleye stuff was that old. I played on a new Diamond 7 footer recently and it banked pretty normal. Much like my Olhausen or the GC4 at my pool hall. I know the 7 footer uses different cushions, but I wonder if the current 9 footers still play short. I get why you wouldn’t like that, but Diamonds are the standard these days. Still would like to see your vids on a Diamond, but hey, your time and your table. Not mine. 😊 Thanks for all you do.

Hi Dr. Dave! Love your videos. I’ve never disagreed with you on anything before, only recently you said you are not a fan of diamond tables. If that’s the case, then, what brand tables would you like to see replace them at the top levels of the game? (U.S. Open, etc.)

The only thing I dislike about Diamond tables is that most of them kick and bank much shorter than they should. Otherwise, they are excellent. I don’t really have a brand preference.

Dr dave, what are your thoughts on a designated breaking spot for the cue ball. Forcing ever player to break from same location. I think this could end the debate over the advantages of the break

I don’t think it is necessary. Good breakers will always have an advantage. And top players all break from the same spot anyway (especially in 9-ball, under 9-on-the-spot, break-box rules).

So much more margin for error vs crossing line. Can land shorter longer etc and still be ok. Conversely if missing mark crossing line can be in trouble.

at 11:24 you played a stun through with a little left and 11:43 you played a stun, also with a little left. Shouldn't the stun shot brings the CB more towards the center of the table than the stun through? Why is it that when you hit lower, the CB path goes more to the left of table center?

I just made a slight error in the spin diagram. The tip position for the 2nd shot was a hair higher (not lower) than the first shot. Your understanding is correct.

About non-billiard balls being used as billiard balls, would baoding balls have slightly different behavior in terms of physics since these Chinese meditation balls have smaller marble-sized ball inside, which could affect the physics of these balls?
