I kind of chuckled when Trey mentioned kids listening to Christian music and then moving away from it, and remembering when the news story broke. That was definitely me. I remember loving "Hanging On" as a kid and turning to that song for comfort when dealing with a rough home situation and church life. Then I went through numerous years where I couldn't listen to any Christian music without having panic attacks and flashbacks, and after seeing that he'd come out, I looked up that song and listened to it again and didn't feel any fear. Thanks for sharing your story!

I really loved hearing Trey's story! It was so raw and genuine, and you can tell he felt safe in this community to share the details. A couple of days after hearing this episode, Netflix suggested that I watch the conversion therapy documentary "Pray Away." My heart is broken from hearing so much pain, but it's necessary to hear these stories.

As a gay Christian who gave my life to Christ at age 8, Trey is such an inspiration to me! I went to a church for a little growing up here in New Jersey that was very conservative and has false teachings about being gay but I never fell for those lies! I know this is how God made me to be! Now I have found a new church that has a LGBTQ+ flag out front and is so loving and accepting with loving your neighbors without ANY conditions or judgement which is how I try to be. We need to love others who don’t love like us. Who don’t look like us. And let God be the judge of someone’s heart and not try to change how others were made in His image. Also as a big contemporary Christian music fan it make me sad to know there are artists in the closet. The CCM industry needs to keep progressing too! Thanks for this interview Brenda…. love you so much and this channel has been a Godsend for me for the year I’ve been subscribed ☺️❤️

@@KingPingviini sorry you feel that way…. Love and acceptance is what Jesus always showed to everyone. Deception to me is cheating on your spouse who you vowed to love and be faithful to in an agreed commitment (like a lot of self proclaimed Christians have done including republican women from Georgia, Marjorie Taylor Greene) there’s nothing wrong or deceptive with Two men or two women having a beautiful love but I know I won’t change your mind so have a great day.

Imagine if I called myself an Adulterous Christian... there is no such thing as a Gay Christian, do you even read the Bible?! Just because you feel certain way doesn't mean it's right, if a man is attracted to another woman and wants to cheat on his wife is that ok since these are his feelings, of course not! don't put so much value on your feelings but put it on the TRUTH, read the Word and pray!

@@dazza8551 why are you even on this channel? lol Obviously your views don't align with Brenda. I'm sorry you feel this way.. but here in New Jersey where I live all over there are churches with pride flags. My dad goes to one, so you're entitled to your opinion about what you think is sin but i'm entitled to believe what I want..... there's biological evidence of homosexuality im sorry you can't understand that God creates people differently. It really isn't that hard to understand tbh but unfortunately there is hardly any empathy in the world right now.... Believe as you shall, but I know how much I love Jesus and have always understood God made me in a unique way something you'll not be able to understand.. Oh and comparing adultery to being gay is not cool.. Two different things, one is about love maybe looking different than what you're used to the other is a deceitful decision some make.. Have a blessed day! Love, a gay christian ☺️

Jess, I NEED YOU TO READ THIS RIGHT NOW. IT APPLIES TO YOU. Are you 100% sure that if you died today you would go to heaven? Do you know Jesus Christ? I am convinced that most people who call themselves "Christian" know religion instead of Jesus Christ. Or they have created their own God in their head. That is why we must make sure that we know the God of the bible and know that we are truly saved. Lay religion, Christian culture, and even politics aside. Someone who truly loves you is reaching out to you not willing that you should perish (2 Peter3), but that you be saved from the price of your sins. With that said, how do you deal with your sin? Yes you. How many times have you lied, lusted, or stolen? I'm guilty, what about you? I hope you feel convicted. But if you're going to reject the free gift of salvation, you ought to think about where you are going after death. Is this your mindset? Luke 12:19 “And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.” Please please do not be this person that Jesus described here. I don't care how if you are in a ministry or even behind a pulpit. And their is no shame in getting saved. Matthew 7 21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. You see there will be professing Christians that were not actually saved. I want to help you. Matthew 18:3 "And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." Because of God's holiness we cannot be in his presence as we are in our sin. No matter how righteous one may appear everyone has sinned and one sin can lead to hell, but there is a way out. We don't deserve it but God made a way that we may become the righteousness of God (Romans 5). I want you to have 100% assurance of salvation. Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 14 6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Romans 6 23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1Corinthians 15: 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 10 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For WHOSOEVER shall CALL upon the name of the Lord shall be SAVED. Here is the gospel straight and simple: 1. Truly acknowledge that you have sinned against a perfect God and you are worthy of hell that can only be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ 2. Believe that Jesus died for and covered all of your sins and rose again. 3. Say to God that Jesus Christ that he is your saviour. Please let me know. I am praying for you, today is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

I can’t believe some people on here are mad at him for leaving his wife. What did you want him to do, keep lying to her, hurting her, and wasting her time? It’s not his fault that he couldn’t come out to himself until later in life, that’s the fault of the church leaders who told him being gay was an embarrassment. They’re the ones responsible for hurting his ex-wife; he’s the one who saved her from that situation by being brave enough to tell the truth.

God loves us all, and because he loves us he will give us strength to astray from sin. God is not grey, he is black and white. The bible says you cannot serve two masters, and you are leading more people to sin by preaching false truth. I pray that God reveals to you all the true gospel, and that is that Jesus is Lord and through him and him alone can we be saved and find salvation. Sin is not of God. I pray that before it is too late you and your followers will rebuke sin and the master of sin and remember that God loves you and will make you clean like snow but as long as you are living in sin, God can't live in you. It is never too late to choose God over sin and he will welcome you back to him with open arms always. Praise God always❤️

Brenda, in relation to the part where the two of you agree about the Bible "not all being the inerrant word of God", I would love to know your thoughts on this passage... In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:1‭-‬5 KJV

I believe the Spirit is teaching about the divinity of Jesus as both the Word of God (the Son is separate from the Father) and God himself (the only begotten Son is also God). The Bible Project did a fantastic breakdown of the passage and the Gospel of John is the one focused on His divinity. When the Word walked this earth, He was 100% absolutely, unequivocably innerant, and both taught and demonstrated God's wisdom to the fullest extent. *"Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction [Love], and to keep oneself unspotted from the world [Holiness]."* (James 1:27). Because *"God is Love"* (1 John 4:16) and *"God is Holy"* (1 Peter 1:16). However, when time drew near for the inerrant Word of God to leave, He said, "I still have much to tell you, but you cannot yet bear to hear it. However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth." (John 16:12). I believe the first manuscripts of scripture are true revelations... but do you remember what John himself wrote in Revelation? "I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and the holy city, which are described in this book." (Revelation 22:19). This suggests that people _can_ and _will_ try change the word of God, to their own peril. And we have evidence that indeed, the word of God has been tempered with. Throughout history, people have weaponized scripture against others to meet their own worldly ends. And to a begnin degree, even the scribes who painstakingly copy/pasted the word have changed parts of scripture (to an almost inconsequential extent I must emphasize) because they didn't fully comprehend one teaching or another, and tried to fit the text to their own understanding, with pure intentions for the reader... we see these changes reverted back by elder scribes or by other scribes at a later date, and the scribes who come after the two are uncertain which change is correct and inerrent. When I first learned about all this, it challenged my faith. But when I learned about the Protestant Reformation, my faith was shaken, and I felt a deep sense come over me from within, I believe from the Spirit, that no matter what, God is able to preserve His Word. Even though the very first manuscripts of scripture are lost to antiquity, what remains to us can be used to reconstruct by comparison, in order to determine which changes were made in error / with ill intent. God the Spirit will do the rest, for He is the Spirit of truth, who brings about the renewing of our minds. Many conservative preachers today quote Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick / corrupt / wicked; who can know / understand it?" - but this was something said about the hearts of men before the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Later in the same book, God made us a promise that is barely quoted: "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD. I will put My law in their minds and inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people. No longer will each man teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD." (Jeremiah 31:33) God has written His Moral Law in our mind and heart, and this is one way in which He preserves the inerrancy of the Word. Because Jesus taught it is He who knocks at the door of our hearts when we let Him in. The same Word that once walked this earth has made His home within us - we are His Temple. What God has promised through Jeremiah does not only apply to the Isralites: “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” (Hebrews 10:16). The Spirit will help us discern what is true, He will also help us interpret the scriptures, and He will help us grow in our understanding x spirituality. When the Word facilitates an understanding that matches what is written in scripture (or many parts of scripture)... that is how we know without doubt that it comes from God the Father. I find that a truly complete understanding will always make all the verses in scripture sing as one choir - the inerrancy vs errancy thing is very complicated lol haha, but requires faith in God to uphold the truth. I hope what I share brings you peace of mind.

For example, it would be wonderful to hear (a) a brief version of how you would share the Gospel with someone (b) Who IS Jesus to you? (c) What do you believe about the Bible (d) do you read, study and discuss scripture with others? Jesus' words (see Matthew 18:6) make it fairly clear that it's critically important how/where we lead others, and you're obviously leading others..... so can you please do a short video so that people can remotely understand what you believe ? To the Church in Thyatira 18 “To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. 19 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. 20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. 24 Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, ‘I will not impose any other burden on you, 25 except to hold on to what you have until I come.’

No matter how much you try to justify it. And that shame they talk about feeling constantly when they have homosexual thoughts is intentionally put there by the Holy Spirit. That's how you know the Holy Spirit is at work inside of you. He's the one who gives you that natural shame in thinking of / doing a very unnatural and sinful thing. I hope you guys see this someday and leave your sin behind.

You can live however you want but I don’t think “Christian” is the name for it. The Christian faith has never been static. Right from the start there have been differences of opinion and interpretation. The early church resolved this issue by formulating a statement of fundamental beliefs, the Nicene Creed, which all mainstream denominations follow. Follow that and you can call it "biblical Christianity". But if you deny the deity or humanity of Christ, his atonement and resurrection, or other clear doctrine of scripture as the Creed outlines, then it's not. As for wanting "to be a good person and to make the world a better place", I suggest you take a closer look at the Bible. That was the consistent message of the prophets, Jesus and the apostles (e.g. Micah 6.8, Mat 22.40, John 13.34, Rom 13.8-10). There is more to it, after all we fail in that ideal which is why we need a saviour. But once you have started to follow the saviour, that's what he commands you to do, nothing more, nothing less.

I often scratch my head as I read what so called "progressive Christianity" is all about ! For example you never talk about the two sexual sins God talks about over and over in Gods Word the Bible ( "Fornication and Adultery" ) and you never mention the scripture where God calls LGBT behavior an "error" ( Romans 1;26-32) and you say you do not believe in "hell" yet God specifically talks about " hell and the lake of fire" also in his Word the Bible in Revelation 20; 14 and 15 ! Furthermore, you never point people to the two things we must all do to bypass "hell and the lake of fire" outlined in Romans 10; 9 and 10 ( the Bible ) ! Why question mark ! PS: If that is all progressive christianity I want no part of all that !

The meaning of the word sometimes translated fornicashon is unclear but is predominantly about prostitooshon. married men using prostitoots was acceptable in Roman culture, which is why there was a conflict with Jewish and Christian moral standards. I've never heard anyone of any branch of Christianity, or even other religion or atheist promote adultery. if you want to allege that some Christian promotes it, then please supply verifiable documented proof. Neither God nor the Bible refers to such behaviour as "error". Rom 1 says that idolatrous Roman males did shameful things with each other. Study how they behaved and you'll agree. And so what? What does it have to do with men who have not worshipped an idol, not set aside the use of a woman (which they never had), behaved respectfully and decently, and not been filled with all kinds of evil? Don't quote the Bible out of context. There is no word "heII" in the Bible. Jesus spoke about Gehenna, an actual place south of Jerusalem which the Jews of his day referred to as where the unrighteous will end up, and Revelation mentions the lake of fire where the unsaved will be thrown. There are various theories about it but the Bible fails to give a consistent message. For example, Revelation says that the deviI will be tormented forever, but doesn't say that about people. The same people thrown into the lake of fire will still exist outside the city of God whose doors always remain open. Who knows, perhaps God will always remain ready to forgive the repentant. After all, "one man’s act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for ALL" and "he is the atonement ... not for ours only but also for the sins of the WHOLE world". There are reasons people think what they do, just like you have reasons for your beliefs. But just because you've been taught something that matches some biblical proof-text doesn't necessarily make you right or that there aren't other justifiable points of view.

*"Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?"* (Galatians 3:3). The Church was wrong for teaching that we can attain sanctification by the power of our own strength to obey in the flesh, rather than the inner working of the Holy Spirit, who is the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. I read Gay Girl Good Girl by Jackie Hill-Perry recently, and her entire love story with Preston (and the desolate & dejected words she used to describe their relationship) completely rejects what Paul is teaching. In response to the Pharisee teaching salvation by way of the flesh, Jesus chastized them and turned to the lost, "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." - The way of the Lord Jesus Christ does not lead to constant unfuilfilment, and depression in relationships. As for him leaving his wife, I will leave judgment for God. But as for the church presiding over these unequally yoked marriages in the first place, with commentators like you being the cherry on top, showing a complete lack of empathy ... well, that is just unbiblical. No matter how you slice this cake dear, an unequally yoked marriage is against scripture, and the Church is at fault too.

If you are a homosexual and you actually care about the truth, Jesus Christ can help you without some weird therapy. The most important thing though is GET SAVED IMMEADIATELY.
