On Pentatone's web-site, Chloe writes: “The Butterfly Lovers Concerto was one of my grand uncle’s favourite concertos. Years ago, I heard an excerpt played by one of his grandchildren at a family gathering, which left a deep impression on me. While learning the piece, I discovered how the Butterfly Lovers’ story has endured through many retellings across the ages in many different mediums, from ink to screen to music. Not only was I deeply moved by the steadfast love of the couple, and Zhu Yingtai’s courageous resistance against the customs of feudal society, I was also touched by the heart-wrenching story that unfolds through the violin concerto by Chen Gang and He Zhanhao.”

In this short clip Chloe performs with such joy and delight, and with such passion. Of course, whenever she is on stage she is always totally immersed in the music she plays. But here, it is as if, of all the different works she has performed, this simple but rapturous melody means the most to her. It is amazing and wonderful to see her so blissful!

I ordered my copies of the cd direct from Pentatone, thinking they would be delivered at the end of July. But to my great and joyous surprise they were delivered today!!! The cd is very beautifully produced, with four lovely photos of Chloe. The audio is excellent, as are the SSO. Chloe's performance of the Paganini, the Butterfly Lovers, and Sunshine over Tashkurgan, is out of this world!

Chloe is around the same age as 祝英台 梁山伯, making her performance of the butterfly lovers all the more lovely interpretation. Pure, and unpolluted. Like the butterfly lovers. Chloe had absolutely 化蝶, became one as the butterfly. I'm very sad to have missed the Butterfly lovers performance 😭. I hope i will be able to have another chance to watch Chloe perform the Butterfly Lovers live in performance. Thank you Chloe and SSO. 👍

Pentatone is releasing the album next month, on 26 July 2024. It has posted audio-only excerpts from all seven movements on its website. They sound great! Also posted there are excerpts from all three movements of Paganini #1 (for those who cannot watch and listen to the whole performance because they haven't become a member of SSO's channel), and an excerpt from the fine filler track "Sunshine Over Tashkurgan."

In case you're interested, check out a vid of Hilary Hahn playing the violin at 10 year old and compare to how she sounds now. She's great as a child but her adult self manage to improve beyond that.

@@TheWinteRose Totally agree about Hilary's improvement -IMHO her Tcaikovsky Violin Concerto and Dvorak New World Symphony in recent years are much better than her earlier renditions. A lot of aspiring soloists do make a decision in their early twenties to switch to another career, so would not agree that musical talent peaks at a young age. Chloe has an unusually deep musical core so I don't think she will "peak"; a great many of us hope she will continue to give us great and sometimes unusual interpretations of compositions in a violin soloist's standard repertoire and more😀.

@@zaaplol5777 You hv to experience the agony of having to separate from your loved ones ,not necessarily becos of death but at least temporary separation due to work commitment etc. Chole has no boy friend , she does not noe what is love and certainly cannot express it through the violin .The theme of this concerto is about great love , heart-wrenching struggle,the sadness of separation ,the joy of frolicking with your crush etc.
