This video highlights the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad freight operations, which occupies some interesting real estate in Middletown, Pennsylvania. The train shares a busy street with traffic as they make their way to and from customers with cars interchanged west of town. The 66 year-old ALCO S-6 locomotive chugs along still wearing its restored livery of the Western Maryland 151, the railroad it was built for.
A link to PART 2 will be posted here when available (COMING SOON).

Its great to see how the road and tracks are integrated and still in use. Here in India, we hardly can see such locations.... great work

Great video of the ALCO S6 doing some STREET RUNNING and switching cars! The switchers are my favorite locomotive and have 8 different ones for my h.o scale layout! The MP15AC is my pick of all. Cheers from Delmar, Delaware

Awesome footage! Street running is always a pleasure to see in action. Love the ALCO, too. I wish I knew what type of bell it has, because it is my favorite kind of locomotive bell.

Pretty cool video of this freight train being pulled by Western Maryland ALCO S-6 No. 151. Quite a cool former Pennsylvania Railroad-Penn Central Railroad freight line too.

Very cool; not many places we can still see street running. NYSW still does in Utica, but the M & H runs with an Alco, even better.

It's great to see street running by a local RR serving NS interchange. Wish the other part of the line at Hummelstown gets back to see and meet NS trains. The Alco WM sounds great. There's another run start in Morrisville, PA near the Delaware River operate by CSAO Morrisville as MP-01. Never caught it but I would see it someday. If the timing is right a meet between Amtrak, NJT, and SEPTA on the bridge.

I really enjoy these videos of short lines .. since you aren't far away there is a short li ne rr that operates here in mifflin county... it starts off in the lewistown junction by the old prr station and goes across route 103 across the juniata River runs up the middle of water in down town lewistown and ends up in Burnham at kovalchik scrap and then returns it occasionally will go down or did cross 322 and go down to kremtzmans scrap yard down back Maitland too it runs I believe 3 days a week.. Monday Wednesday and Friday the jvrr juniata valley rail road operates on 11 or 12 miles of trackage pretty sure it's running a 50's Alco switcher of some sort as well

I find street running fascinating. We don't have any left in the UK. It was also interesting to see other rails buried into the road. Out of interest, I noticed that you used the word pavement, which is what we call public walkways at the side of the road. You are the first American that I have heard talk of a pavement and not used the term sidewalk. Just wondered, are both terms used in the US?

The best street running train i ever saw was in Germany. It's a steam train that runs through the entire city, once every hour. It does that since the 1886.
@EnjoyFirefighting

haha a tiny tourist train, not serving any industries ...
@23GreyFox
@23GreyFox Жыл бұрын
@@EnjoyFirefighting It's called tourism, maybe you heard of this extremely important industry? If your tiny IQ allows that idea. It makes a lot of money for a small narrow gauge railway, that is less than 10 miles. So much so that they had to order a completely new build locomotive. How many new steam locomotives are build in the US in the last 70 years? Zero.
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting Жыл бұрын
@@23GreyFox seriously going that low that you feel like you have to insult me? How much profit do they make? Well south of a million profit per year ... doesn't seem like a such promising industry to me, even when they have an annual ridership of a few 100k. And that's what you call a lot of money? An all that with low demand and resulting lower offer during the winter months.
@23GreyFox
@23GreyFox Жыл бұрын
@@EnjoyFirefighting So what? That's how tourism works. High season is never all year around. I'm not sure what you even want with your useless comment, outside of trolling.
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting Жыл бұрын
@@23GreyFox uhm actually some tourism areas have high season all year round ... but they have sth to offer both during summer and winter, unlike some seaside resorts which entirely rely on summer season. You act like they'd make a fortune there while their profit is rather small with only 500k. The demand isn't that high to be fair, with an average of 10 passengers per car. Of course it kind of supports local economy as the town would be just like any other county town on the map, but is it such a big game changer? I doubt it. Also residents must bear the noise from the very frequent trains going down the street with their bells ... sth most people aren't precisely keen on having right in front of their door "How many new steam locomotives are build in the US in the last 70 years? Zero." no need to brag about it, as it was only one in Germany as well. While they didn't built any new ones they restored some old ones

Very Cool!! I love how ur starting 2 upload more often now!! Keep it up man!! Also, remember how u said it was next 2 impossible 2 get a coal train on the Port Road in broad daylight? Well, that's not entirely true because I saw 2 emptys at COLA on March 1st of this year. While I was wrapping up my schoolork, I heard of a train or 2 heading up north, so I rushed 2 COLA. I got there by about 3:30, and I was sadly 2 late. When I got there, 2 emptys, 595-01 and 595-28. I only saw the rear end of 595-01 (I learned later that the lead engine was NS 8116) adn I saw all of 595-28 becasue dispatcher had told him to wait near COLA in order to let 595-01 clear the ROY 595-28 would follow him on there. I sadly Coulden't record the whole thing, But I saw the lead locomotive (NS 8079) and The 2 MID DPUs ( AC44C6Ms 4386 and 4540) and even a Pier 6 hopper that the train had!! Anyway, after 595-28 passed, I waited 4 30-45 minutes 2 see if anything else would pass, but sadly, nothing else came, so I ust packed up and left, as I had 2 go 2 Guitar class after that anyway.

Had plenty of space to pull further to the side and be clear, had a side street next to him to go down and also clear out of the way, chooses to drive in front of locomotive and pull a squeeze. Bonehead trucker, must be the only guy ever dim enough to get fired from Swift.
