Fun Fact: The dance scene in the beginning of the movie was choreographed by Paula Abdul. Paula Abdul remembers being a Laker girl when she got the call that she would be choreographing the 1988 film "Coming to America." During that time, Abdul was choreographing both the Laker girls and Janet Jackson. She was a girl who was very high in demand back in the 80’s.

I overthink things, but is that why in bowfinger Eddie Murphy had a thing about showing "it" to the laker girls? Lol back in the day filming this did Arsenio have to say, "now that is the pretty girl from the laker girls that teaches our dancers, she is from America do not show it to her again or there will be a lawsuit Akeem"
@bigb2494
@bigb2494 9 ай бұрын
She did the choreography for that scene, but it didn't quite go down that way. Paula was a student of Debbie Allen (sister of Phylcia Rashad) and wife of former Laker Norman Nixon. She later became a Laker girl where she met Jackie Jackson who connected her with his sister Janet. Later Janet found out she was having an affair with her brother and felt betrayed, so she severed ties. Paula then started dating Arsenio Hall who just so happened to be best friends with Eddie Murphy. She's had an accomplished career, but had some connections along the way.

Fun Fact: For the movie's 30th anniversary a few years ago, an independently operated McDonald's in Chicago "dressed" as McDowell's for Halloween. The owner changed the sign, the menu and the employee uniforms. It was brilliant. Also, James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair would go on to voice Simba's parents in "The Lion King" (1994). Playing a King and Queen once again.

Again you guys hit the nail on the head with, "Coming to America" another all-time favorite classic. flick. ---------- The movie packs so many 2nd and 3 levels of jokes in each scene that you can't stop laughing. Such was the case when I saw it in theaters back in 88'. -------- This movie could not fail or else he may never get another to do another all-black blockbuster movie cast. Which was unheard of back in 1988.

This movie shows how much of a genius Eddie Murphy was (or maybe still). To be able to produce a film and act multiple personas was simply brilliant. And not to mention Arsenio Hall as well as support.

In case anyone was wondering: Eddie Murphy and the movie did get permission from McDonald's to use their likeness and even got to use one of their restaurant locations for the McDowell's scenes. Sometime later the restaurant became a Wendy's before it was all demolished and the location became the site of a condo.

This is the first movie where Eddie played multiple characters. It became a hallmark of his movies. Also after 48 hours Eddie made it a point to insist as many other comedians he knew from stand up got parts in his movies to hopefully help them get some recognition as well.

Awesome reaction. I have seen this movie in theaters in 1987 and some 100 times thereafter. It is one of my favorites of all time. An awesome must see movie that I personally recommend and am 1000% sure that you should see when going down the Eddie Murphy rabbit hole is the severely underrated movie, "Life"., which also co- stars Martin Lawrence. This movie is far more poignant than you would expect!

TBR, if you enjoyed "Coming To America" (which happens to be one of my TOP 2 all-time favorite movies), then I "GUARANTEE" that you will (EQUALLY) enjoy this movie, that's my other TOP 2 movie, called ("LIFE"). Also starring Eddie Murphy in a buddy movie, this time with comedian "Martin Lawrence". People are always surprised after watching this movie as well, because they think it'll be "slapstick Eddie Murphy", come to discover that this movie is (funny, GREAT make-up again, great storyline, and even "touching" moments that you didn't see coming!) ZERO exaggeration! Also with: (Rick James....Bernie Mac...Anthony Anderson "Black-ish".....and others!). This movie was "made" for you guys to react to, (NO EXAGGERATION!).....*watch the transformation of Eddie & Martin throughout this movie - Remarkable!!*

This was great to see another classic that I loved as a kid with you both! The sequel to this movie was made only a short while ago, and I thonk it's a genuinely fun and good sequel worth watching. I think the lack of time playing with the fish out of water aspect to Hakim was to not undervalue him as an educated prince, much as he's pretty clueless in America, I think they wanted to avoid making him feel too goofy geting used to things, and then there's the usual culprit of pacing and cutting things out. Great video! Happy New Years to you both!
