I have been struggling to explain the Chirch authority to my evangelical friends and now I found this elonquent talk. This is one of the best talks I have heard on this topic of authority with regards to the community vs. the individual. Thank you for your clarity, Msgr Lane. It seems to me that because of the unity in the Trinity, which cannot have divisions, there should also be unity in the Church and in our communities, our relationships.

Christ is the ultimate high priest not your pope's as pontifex maximus. Who is above the pope's . And you can't serve 2 master's at once, not both the pope or God our Father.

He's not a master to serve. Matthew 23:11 We might read that chapter differently. We pray for our clergy, because of their service to us. They teach with authority given to them by Christ to his Apostles. It is their responsibility to lead people to Christ and if they lead people astray, we to them.
