15:36 Tiberian Sons is Frank Klepacki's band. Hardly something you can call a fan band. 17:08 Joseph Kucan actually _was_ kind of dragged in front of a green screen from behind a desk - he was originally at Westwood as a voice acting director. He had done voice acting, but C&C was his on-screen acting debut, IIRC.
@Nyerguds3 жыл бұрын
-Actually, that particular music is credited to "Frank Klepacki *_and_* the Tiberian Sons". They are _not_ Frank Klepacki's band. They are a band that named themselves after C&C and did some C&C covers, but they are not a 'fan band', either; they do non-C&C stuff too. They teamed with Frank Klepacki for MAGFest 2019. They were asked to do the same cooperation again to record a studio album for the Remasters. -Joe Kucan was hired as _director_ for the live action FMVs, and to recruit a cast for them. Not as voice actor. I don't think he worked at Westwood prior to C&C. He is _not_ in the class of "employees who were already there, who were dragged into acting / voice acting" like Kia Huntzinger and Eric Gooch. Kia was a secretary at Westwood, and Eric was a graphics artist. But Joe was _specifically_ hired for his background in theatre, for the purpose of making the FMVs.

When you said that Westwood didn't really invent RTS genre, that had a bad ring in my ear. I know that errors happen so I'm going to educate you a little bit about this. Westwood created Dune 2 way back before Warcraft and that game was really the true kickstart for the genre. There may have been some less know games with the same idea but Westwood with Dune 2 made it all more or less mainstream. It was so good that Blizzard copied the engine for Warcraft because they wanted to play Dune in multiplayer. This started a competition between these two companies and they created a hit after hit and all RTS fans can still enjoy those masterpieces. PS. I get the "Ratatouille effect" (the critic eats the food and gets a flashback from childhood) from the intro of C&C everytime. The sound effects and the Westwood logo are burnt Into my brain. May your legacy live forever Westwood Studios!

Great to see a remaster that honors the original games highlighted here, and all the better because Jirard was already a fan of the series. Also: Keep up the good fight against the KZbin bots.

Westwood beat Blizzard to the RTS game with Dune II which came out 3 years before Warcraft: Orc & Humans, and laid the groundwork for C&C

I managed to scrounge through all of my old computer games from my childhood, and I managed to find the old Command & Conquer and Red Alert discs. I do not recall playing it as much as some of the others from this pile at my Dad's house, but he had these games in there for a reason, and I am willing to explore that reason 20 years later. It might not be as fresh as looking into the remastered collection, but it will be a fresh experience for me.

Westwood did invent the genre way before Warcraft in 1992 they released Dune 2 the building of a dynasty... still one of the best RTS game’s EVER. If you like C&C check it out. Also you should complete red dead redemption 2 just saying I’d love to be a mini producer patreon supporter but can’t afford the monthly cost sorry Jirard is awesome, thank you for your amazing content

Fair warning to anyone checking out Dune II though, there's a load of clones out there, and I've seen many, many reviewers show footage of one of the clones thinking it was the original. The only allowable exceptions there are the OpenDune derivatives; OpenDune is actually a complete reverse engineering of the original game's source code, so it really does play 100% like the original game. OpenDune-derived projects like Dune Dynasty are probably the closest Dune II will ever come to a real remaster. (PSA: Unlike OpenDune, the OpenRA project is _not_ a reverse engineering of the original Red Alert, but a fan clone built completely from scratch.)

C&C wasn't Westwoods first RTS that was Dune which came out befor Warcraft. Depending who you ask Dune was or wasn't the first RTS, as there where game out there who had sub modes which where RTS like, but didn't feature all the topes we associate with RTS.
@Nyerguds4 жыл бұрын
Well, technically, the first use of the term "Real Time Strategy" was how Westwood described their game to the press. So in that aspect, yes, it is the first RTS, as in, it was the first game ever called "RTS".

its awesome that the infamous EA was able to make this remaster by doing a smart thing , LETTING PEOPLE WHO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE GAME AND ITS FANDOM AND NOT WOKIFYING OR MAKING A GAME SO OUT OF TOUCH THAT IT IS REVEALED THAT THE PEOPLE WHO MADE IT KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE FRANCHISE AT ALL.

1: Westwood DID invent RTS'. 2: Tapes were not found, the cutscenes are very clearly digitally upscaled. 3: Tiberium Sons are not a "fan band". That's the actual original composer. Please do the barest of research.
@Nyerguds5 күн бұрын
You should be careful with that "do the research" line; The Tiberian Sons are not Frank Klepacki's band, either. They're just a band that named themselves after Tiberian Sun, and did some covers of C&C tracks. Frank is _not_ a member of their band. The performances in the Remaster are credited to "Frank Klepacki *and* The Tiberian Sons"; it was a cooperation between them.

One little foible with the facts Jirard, besides Dune 2 being the first rts as said by other comments, the person who played Kane actually WASN'T a professional actor and was a developer they pulled in front of the greenscreen. He was just that charismatic that you couldn't tell.
