I was EXTREMELY nervous to download the document in the description as traditionally that can be quite dangerous, especially from some rando on youtube. However, I did eventually download it and followed all the steps here for Windows 10 64bit and found it worked perfectly! If you are staring at that download in fear, relax it worked out great! I will note too that I did a fresh uninstall/install and then followed the instructions there after. Thanks for the video!

I didn't think this was going to solve my problem because my game just gave me a strange error when I tried to start it, it didn't do what your game was doing. I got "You have encountered a serious error, serious errors can be caused by many things.. blah blah" But anyway this video fixed it, fantastic, thank you very much. (Windows 8.1) The no disc file did not work for me, whenever I replaced the application with it, it just said "Please insert the first disk" or something even with or without the disc, had to reinstall Zero Hour to get the original application back, and will play it with the disc. (The the Decade) Thanks again!

Launch the game, then it will create the folder, even if it won't boot. If that does not happen, just create it yourself :)

Yes it did work for me. Seems like the issue was initially that the game is unable to support the newest native resolutions. If you force it with the settings given, it will work okay.

For everyone who can't find the General Zero Hour Data folder in the documents, you neeed to download the link he provided below. In that folder after unzipping it will be an application called generals. Copy the file named 'generals'. Go to the C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour/ or where ever you downloaded the game to and paste the file you just copied and it will come up saying there is already an exisiting file... Click copy and replace! Then try opening that application you just pasted. It worked for me. I didn't need to do the options.ini blah blah stuff

Thank you for this, worked with windows 10 64 bit on first decade collection 22/09/2018 did require the no cd patch as I got the message Please insert correct CD-ROM when running the game even though disk and disk tray work. Now I just need the same patch for the original generals game. So glad to be able to play this again thank you again!

For people looking for solution, you must download the right game with complete installation setup. If you only dl on sites like apunkagames, it won't work on Windows 7. I just tried today and it works perfectly! Without any modifications I juat installed it and click the icon and it works on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop!

This did not fix me, but it did get me on the right track. Thanks. For me, this left my computer demanding the correct disk. Switching to Vista SP2 compatibility fixed that, and now I'm up and running. Haven't tried it online yet, but skirmishes work fine.

Martin Hultquist, I have a running windows 8 and did everything in the video. You said that in the essentials file that you placed a no-cd patch, I replaced the original application with the no cd-patch but sad to say it still says the same error: CD needed.

I made it work on Win 10 64 bits. For those who's folders "Command and Conquer Generals Data" and "Command Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data" are missing, you need to create them in the folder called "Documents" , then put the file "options.ini" inside them. No compatibility mode is required. Also don't forget to create the subfolders "Saves" , "Replays" and "Maps". ^^

I had the same issue, this is what solved for me: support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3086255 Under "Known issues in this security update" And I used the XP SP2 compatibility mode, and "run as administrator". Theoretically my only account on my laptop is admin... I don't know if you need all this, but the stuff found on that link finally sorted for me.

to get this game to work if your having the serious error pop up and your on windows 8.1 first decade right click the icon on your desk top go down to properties go to the capability group click the run this program in capability mode change from xp to windows 8 down at the bottom check the boxes click program to work with skydrive and run ass admin then click ok then try the game again should work

Thanks! Man ;) I installed it without a problem several times with mods in windows 10 but in no apparent reason its just not working fine in my newly installed W10. Those guys are making this 13 year old awesome game to live :D I played modern title games but I always back to this! It doesn't need a high end gpu and you can even play it in lower IGPU graphics in max settings without any problem. Man believe me this game is awesome! I can play it in my entire life specially with mods like ROTR and Contra are the best zh mods that you can play :) I almost cried when they canceled the Generals 2 in 2012 but i hope they have future plans with that ^_^
