Those tight, plosive consonants and crisp diction is from what happens when a brilliant musician turns ability and puts in years of hard work and training to become a theatrical performer. Shatner, Stewart, Spiner, Brooks, Auberjenois, Hertzler, Mulgrew and Bakula all had strong theatrical training and experience. Gravitas is a hallmark of their performances.

the best and most underappreciated element of old Trek was employing all these mega-talented theater actors to ham it up in wacky costumes and make-up. it's such a delight
@@cecilcin4455 I say forget him...he's not even CLOSE to the class of Brooks or Stewart as far as training, skill, raw talent, or the interior gifts necessary to center a Trek franchise show....he should thank god he'll never have to. He's a TV actor who got lucky. He's a lightweight.

Avery Brooks bad acting was probably the single biggest turn off for me to DS9. So fucking cringe. More wooden than Pinocchio.

Avery's acting starts terrible in DS9 with the very hammy acted death scene of his wife (Somebody help meeeeeee) then becomes bearable towards the middle then trails off again at the end of the later seasons. The other characters and the writing of eps save DS9 and although I do like TNG I do prefer DS9 the crew of TNG can be a bit too goody two shoes for me at times.
