I was a trucker when I was young. I became a police officer. Like alot of other guys who gave up diesels for something else, I wished I had never left trucking. Some of my happyist times were sailing with 13 gears, 400 horses and 18 wheels. My wife haited diesels too.

My ma was a driver's daughter. By the time I had my licence she was sick and wheelchair bound. She passed while I was over the road and what I wouldn't give to give her a ride in my Ken. I gave up driving after that and I also found out when I met the family at a truck stop and got dinner she cried like you wouldn't believe. She said that truck sounds like my grandpa's going into the distance. When she passed I couldn't drive a truck again. I'm 6'2 and 275 and write with a tear. RIP MOM you were the best. I'm sorry I couldn't give you that last ride.

Funny thing. I've been retired for over two years ago and off the road from driving. Today I saw my old love-- My Kenworth. it was driven by another, Younger driver,. I didn't think such a situation would hurt me so much when it happened, but it did. Once an Old Trucker, Always an Old Trucker!!! I Miss the road, just like this song tells, and I doubt the feeling will ever leave me till the day I die. To those of you who listen to this song that never got bit by the bug to become a truck driver, you will never understand why this song is so meaningful to us. You are blessed to be grounded with your families, because we give all that up for the love of the Road.

I still have this album. The truck on the cover belong to Johnny Edger Trucking. Old narrow nose, 335 and twin sticks! Now there is some memories!

Fuck Yeah!!! Loved driving trucks!! Drove my first when my dad turned me loose on a two stick transmission Kenworth when I was only 13!!! I was hooked at that point, but I resisted the road until much later on when Roadranger Transmissions were pretty much the standard .

Yes they were. They were a joke to some of the pop lovers or even new country types. Spent a few nights with them at the Armadillo. Genuine music.

I used to drive long haul, gave it up for college and a desk job, but miss it every time I hear one of these old time trucker songs. I miss channel 10 on the now defunct XM radio.. the Sirius replacement doesn't hold a candle to the old station..

Never drove rigs, but I poured a lot of diesel in the Navy. Found this album on Vinyl up in Norfolk and it’s been a good one.

@biggestkrisfan ... Too bad you're married ... we could take the little one and travel the "blue" highways of my country ... but ... being the old fart that I am ... we better do it fast ... I don't think ... at least I hope I won't be around too much longer ... if I hit 65 and I'm still here ... man ... am I gonna' be pissed off ... I've earned a rest ...

Totally agree about Gaga BUT millions believe she is a gifted performer. Some body please explain. Is it a kind of mass hysteria? P.S. saw The Commander in Cardiff Uni ~ 1975 - one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
