I think you guys missed another reason why Reprieve totally rules, and its that you can save your own spells on the stack. If you play your cheap commander or combo finisher and someone plays counterspell? Well then, just Reprieve your own spell to your hand, draw a card, and the counter can fizzle, maybe you can even replay it that same turn. There's also the edge cases where it can "counter" something uncounterable, in the way Remand cannot.
@pretty_fly_for_a_jeskaiАй бұрын
Exactly, saying not to run Reprieve with access to blue is a little short sighted imo. I run it in my most control focused Kykar build because I already have like... 5 other counterspells. Reprieve actually feels modal in saving your own stuff on the stack while cantriping while also still hosing a late game play.
@punkypinko2965Ай бұрын
Awesome tip. Thanks! I just built a Baral deck and I have Remand. I haven't played it yet, but I didn't think about countering my own spell to save it. Nice. Maybe I should hold onto Remand if possible in order to protect my own spells ... hmmm .... Now that I think about it, I could save someone else's spell too and play politics.

It also disrupts momentum. If a game is moving fast enough, they might need to prioritize other things just to not fall behind.

I play it in my marneus calgar deck because the storm copies come in as tokens which will each trigger Marneus to draw me cards and it’s just a great way to slow down decks that rely on their commander which is most of them
@jayjayhooksch121 күн бұрын
Not shockingly, but it is also really good in my Clement frog tribal deck; you can put the original copy on one of your own non-frog creatures to turn them into a mana dork. Additionally the frog deck is based around bouncing permanents, so you can get the Downpour back again later to use again.
@ryanbliss827Ай бұрын
Teferi's veil user here, this card is also amazing for any card that makes tokens that leave at the end of turn. They phase out and then you don't have to sacrifice, key example is araumi

I'm in love with Dragonhawk. I built a deck with him as my commander and he is so deceptive. Often times you are building a wall of 4 power creatures with little impact, maybe dropping Descent into Avernus. Most people aren't afraid until he actually comes down, then they are like oh....thats a problem. But hopefully everyone else has other issues. Also Witch's Clinic is nuts if he stays out and also extra combat triggers

Funny interaction I saw with Trouble in Pairs last week, someone played Chance for Glory while it was out and skipped that extra turn, meaning they would not lose and since the indestructible it gives is not till the end of turn, he had perma indestructible on those creatures for two mana (cast through Sunforger). Won him the game.

New players never ever expect two measly 1/1 goblins to potentially spiral exponentially into potentially infinite 1/1 goblins so if I ever had to pick a commander who overperforms I'd go with Krenko, Mob Boss.

Radstorm sounds incredibly nasty in superfriends, can change the math on multiple planeswalkers at literally instant speed and it's oops, all emblems. "amphibian downpour", the 6 cards for 2 mana or less that also do a similar effect, and fact if it sticks on a commander that they cant recast it. I wouldnt sleep on this type of effect, nothing is more effective than trying to convince the board to kill u commander so u can recast it, or having to waste removal on ur own commander. So in my eyes its tech better removal. Side note: "storm" extremely hard to counter downpour is almost guaranteed to land without counterplay, you also have to counter the storm copys independently.

@joshuadunham3018Ай бұрын
Does it? The Witchking doesn't say whether it's before or after combat is over that the attacking player has to sacrifice, merely that it's when they do damage. So if the creature had first strike/double strike then Veil doesn't stop his static ability, but if it's normal combat damage then maybe it does. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there's an official ruling on this.
@brendans1983Ай бұрын
Don't think it does mate. Witch King triggers in damage step of combat, Veil in the end of combat step. Separate triggers in separate steps.

My point was the effect of Phasing. It Phases out and is “gone” until your next Untap Step, so if you attack with it you don’t get it’s ability for a whole cycle around the table. It’s a great blocker but you don’t want to attack with it with Teferi’s Veil in play.
