Unboxing and first impressions of the Commerical Electric 20" high velocity fan from the Home Depot. I wanted to give this fan another shot after I returned the HDX version back to the store about 5 years ago because I was disasspointed. It's still more or less the same fan, but my opinion has since changed.

Great video! I love taking stuff apart to try and fix. I've been able to repair a few fans over the years that people have thrown away. They just needed minor fixes such as oiling/cleaning. For me there's always 1 screw that is on too tight. 😁 I've had this same fan for a year and I love it.

Thanks! Same, it’s amazing how so many thrown-out things can be fixed and in minutes!

Awesome and Powerful Fan right up there with the 18" TPI Fan and the 12" even the 24" One that Jordan U has i enjoyed the video and hope to see more of this fan soon

Thanks Lemont! I think the TPI fans have an edge over this fan in the overall build quality and performance, but considering the price difference between them, I do think this is a very respectable fan. Planning to do some comparisons and an oiling video, hopefully soon!

Sounds powerful for a 160watt fan. I have a 260watt cyclone 24 inch industrial drum fan

At least that company actually puts effort into their models rather then the manufacturer that makes modern Walmart fans to say the least.
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan Жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree. Whoever the manufacturer is, they also do make this fan for the Walmart Mainstays brand in the US, but it's definitely better than most of the generic fans sold there.

@@TheSuperFanMan Good performance is a way to be able to tell when a company actually puts effort into their fans like certain Hunter fans and maybe some Canarm fans

Looks like an HDX 20” HV fan. These are decent fans. I’m not a fan of how the speeds have little difference tho
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan Жыл бұрын
It's basically the same fan as the HDX. Just a few minor changes were made to its appearance. I agree; the lack of distinct speed separations is a common complaint I have when it comes to most modern fans.

Nice to see it again but under a different brand. I think H and D stands for Home Depot but not sure what X stands for? Also Home Depot sold a-lot of Hampton Bay fans.
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think you are right about the HDX name. As far as I know, the X doesn't stand for anything. The Home Depot actually brought the Hampton Bay name back recently, and a good portion of their fans are now labelled with that name. But of course, it's not the same Hampton Bay we know from the 2000s.

I was coughing so hard when you said air king, It nearly blew my lungs how bad air king or air queen (as Jordan U calls it) balancing skills are. 8:43 Also I am hoping there will be a tomorrow for this fan
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan Жыл бұрын
Haha yeah, the Air Queen fffaeeens are notorious for having poorly balanced blades. That does make them good dancers though. I'm also hoping the screws won't give me problems. I'll take my time and be careful not to strip them out. Worst case scenario, I can drill them out.

@@TheSuperFanMan Seems like the queen of ffaens is certainly having a ball! I wouldn't be surprised if she won a dance competition though. And yes indeed, I was able to grab 2 stand fans from the trash today. One has a busted oscillator, One is all intact, Both have snipped cords however, Fortunately I might be able to rewound a cord onto both of them and revive them, There not heavily yellowed surprisingly, Ones 15 years old and ones 10 years old. Both were used household only so no paint, rust just some dust.
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan Жыл бұрын
Nice, good grabs! Luckily replacing the cord is an easy task. I would do a supervised test run if you do decide to rewire them, since you don’t know the reason why the cords were cut in the first place.

@@TheSuperFanMan Yes, I have a surge proof type power board, So it takes the resistance of it if something were to go wrong, I flipped the breaker to power the power back up, I actually got them both working, One was because it has a broken oscillator, And the other just dust, It works fine but unfortunately I broke it trying to move the body on the stand, It was a dumb idea and I should have loosed the screw first, But I achieved my goal which was trying to get them both working and that I did.

That's the same fan I bought years ago at lowes under the utlitech brand and the walmart mainstays brand and the motor gets really hot on both and very loud in small rooms
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan Жыл бұрын
Yep, it’s intended for larger spaces so I’m sure it does get quite loud in small rooms! The motor temperature is likely normal. It might feel hotter than other fans because the motor itself is exposed on the back of the fan. Most other fan types, such as oscillating fans, have plastic housings around the motor so they don’t feel nearly as warm to the touch.
@haylspa
@haylspa Жыл бұрын
you need to oil the bearing wicks every few months of use, also manufacturer is noted for forgetting to oil them.. how ever the fan is loud because it's not a wussy fan 😁🤫
@haylspa
@haylspa Жыл бұрын
yours sounds like mine on low, make sure the bearing wicks has been oiled, there is some of these they skipped oiling before assembly..! just saying yours sounds like it is going a little slow
@TheSuperFanMan
@TheSuperFanMan Жыл бұрын
I did end up oiling it. There’s a video I posted more recently of the entire oiling procedure. The factory doesn’t skip the oiling, but they do use insufficient quantities of low quality oil, which is the culprit.

Haha true, the name does sound pretty generic. But then I guess you could also point out other manufacturers like General Electric for also having seemingly generic names. Nope, this one is not going back to the store! It's probably going to get used in the basement or in the garage when I need good ventilation.
