Nice, that's really cool! It's unfortunate that these Japanese fans are quite prone to seizing up or running slow. A good chunk of Lasko/Galaxy's designs originated from Sanyo, so the blade geometry might actually be the same!

I have a 16 inch Sanyo of that style with more spread out grills, someday I'm hoping to find a Sanyo made in Japan where mine was from Mexico and the blue Canadian market one must have been made in canada.
@TheSuperFanMan2 күн бұрын
I think many Sanyo fans from this year range were made in Mexico, while the earlier ones were made in Japan. Most of the Lasko and Sanyo fans that were "made in Canada" were still mostly built in their originating countries. Perhaps some of the final assemblies were done in Canada.
@Connectitthefancollector5 күн бұрын
Sanyo fans do look so nice for their time. Other than the clip and the slightly bent grill slits, the condition is nice as well. It is very interesting when there is a backstory to fans when you get them. I believe pifco sold similar designed fans in the UK.
@TheSuperFanMan2 күн бұрын
Yeah I also like hearing the stories of the fans I acquire! I think this particular generation of Sanyo fans had a very timeless design. Still looks relatively modern for a fan that is about 40 years old. I remember watching your video of the 10" Pifco. It certainly does have a very similar base design.

Something just occurred to me. Idk what but… The scary part? I actually fitted the blade of a HPF820BWM I got at Walmart to a HT900 from target and I feel like I would feel bad passing off the combo as an unofficial product as it looked too much like what the company would actually make. On a side note, after seeing this blue fan, the unease of people not believing me in what was actually a simple mod to a HT900 fan is really getting to me. Not saying this is fake though I actually believe the fact this blue fan is legit and not a defect in manufacturing, besides it may unfortunately be hard to distinguish between the truth if I’m speaking of another manufacturer but Honeywell does at least have decent quality control.

I'm surprised they went out of business! I have one I bought in 2018, it's been hanging in an outdoor shed since. Does anyone know where to purchase a replacement wall mount? Mine is beginning to split apart, I was surprised to see that
@TheSuperFanMan9 күн бұрын
It really is unfortunate! With cheaper, generic big box store fans made overseas, I guess Seabreeze couldn't keep up. Many good fan manufacturers have gone out of business for that reason. I don't think there is a source for a replacement wall mount. I think the least expensive route would be to use a couple of hook bolts from a hardware store and DIY a new hanger.
@Racecar5649 күн бұрын

I think 85' was the transition from the spinner nut to the press fit with the spring, I have two from 85 (both amber) and one has the spinner and the other has the spring, the base also seemingly changed slightly when the blade did. Neat fans!
@TheSuperFanMan9 күн бұрын
Great info, thanks! I'm starting to wonder if the spinner nut design was simply co-manufactured along with the press fit design, since the later 9" fan blades seem to be press-fit only.

Great find. Shows that these old Torcan fans were built to last. Cannot wait to see it once you have restored it.
@TheSuperFanMan9 күн бұрын
Thanks! I agree, these fans are absolute tanks. The paint on it is rough due to the underlying rust, so it'll have to wait until the spring for a new paint job but I think it'll turn out good!

@TheSuperFanMan9 күн бұрын
Yep, also a fellow Canadian collector! I very seldomly see Lasko (and Galaxy) badged fans from this era locally. I guess the majority of them were rebadged as Super or Mastercraft for Canada.
@TheFanUniverse12 күн бұрын
I'm honestly more of a fan of the pointed blades. I feel like it's giving the fan some sort of a wicked vibe for some reason, probably due to how pointy the leading edge is. It definitely matches well with the font on the badge & looks more awesome when it is running!
@TheSuperFanMan9 күн бұрын
You couldn't have said it better! I like this design for that very reason. Also the pointed leading edge seems to make the bladeset quieter, which I appreciate. Comparing the 80s pointed-blade Lasko fans (both 9" and 12") to the 70s rounded-blade Laskos, the pointed blades tend to run quieter and with less of an annoying whir.

I am not a fan collector myself, but i prefer the spinner nut fan blades instead of the press fit fan blades. also does this Lasko 9 inch desk fan have a brushed or brushless DC electric motor?
@TheSuperFanMan9 күн бұрын
I absolutely agree! The spinner nut makes it so much easier to remove the blades and clean them. This fan has actually has an AC induction motor. DC motors in fans became more popular in the recent years due to the push for more energy efficient appliances.

5:48 that is the worst motor casing design ever WHERE DOES THE AIRFLOW MEET THE MOTOR ITSELF
@TheSuperFanMan9 күн бұрын
Yeah I'm not sure why Lasko opted for such a restrictive motor housing design. Knowing how hot the motors in these fans run (hence the reason why so many of them wear out), they sure would benefit from a design that allows more airflow.

I remember having one of these Airworks models along side a nearly identical 1998 Super version but with a metal marco motor. I think they had slightly different blade pitches, cant remember which was which. I also remember the Airworks sounding like it was turning at a lower rpm than the Super. I guess they had to make some changes to account for the new PSC motor
@ln502617 күн бұрын
Hi, I just got a pedestal fan but it doesn’t oscillate. How did you remove the pin?
@TheSuperFanMan17 күн бұрын
Hi! To remove the pin, first remove the single screw on the back of the motor housing (shown at 2:10). That will allow you to wiggle the motor housing downwards to further expose the "neck" of the oscillator pin. There are two tabs on the neck of the pin (U shaped cutouts). Press a small flathead screwdriver into the lower side of the cutout and gently pry while lightly pulling up on the oscillator pin. This will disengage the tab from the rod extending out from the oscilaltor gearbox. Repeat for the other tab, and the pin should come out. Hope it helps!
