I'm fortunate enough to have a loyal retainer base of advertising/design clients. Messing with video is just bonus work and fun. One supports the business and the other supports my creative needs. You are right about keeping the "already client" clients happy.

This is something I've noticed in my own workflow as some of my clients tighten their belts; you look at ways to speed up so that we can be more cost effective. Great advice - thanks for making such a candid and thought-provoking video =)

Thanks brother! I'm certainly getting more pragmatic in my now older age. Less swayed by the B&H daily deals and such...and yes, I have sped up by outsourcing more editing than I ever have, and embracing AI tech. Those two things alone have increased my capacity on the daily by about 20% and have kept me from having to hire on additional skilled shooters.

Excellent video! I started real estate photography/videography because of you. I agree with you regarding clients budgets and willingness to spend. Upselling is few and far between. Doing jobs for slightly less seems to be able to get significantly more work every month.

Hey, thanks for the kind words, Lee! I'm humbled to hear you started this gig because of me...that's really neat. When the market started to slow down with rising interest rates in late 2022, I had made a series of videos with Jeremy Deihl about upselling more involved packages of services to increase each invoice value. I now know that was a mistake, and it was pretty easy to see right away in my own sales trends. Efficiency and relationships will weather this storm, and before we know it, we'll be in some boom years again! 🍻

I use the R5 And I wirelessly tether to my smart phone. Is that the type of tethering you're talking about or are you talking about flash triggering wirelessly? @2:30

It is. With the R3, the image transmission back to the device is faster, along with the R3 having a much more stable connection and with greater range than the R5 variant cameras. One hack you can try with the R5 though is to shoot at F11 or smaller apertures. For some reason, apertures beyond F10 cut the transmission time back to the device in half. I have no idea why...it's just something I discovered a while back.
