I doubt it. You have more leeway than you think. The big thing is to not guess wrong answers and pretend you know what you are talking about. The oral is a discussion and by the time the DPE reaches the 2nd or 3rd level of his question, it's likely he's ok with saying "I don't know, let me find that."

Many thanks, I have been researching "faa atp question bank" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Yanaylee Yanrooklyn Magic - (do a search on google )? It is a good exclusive product for discovering how to get pilot license minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my friend got great success with it.

Sean Kenney make sure you KNOW your limitations as a commercial pilot. You can not charge your friends for flights any more than you can as a private pilot. Commercial allows you to work for someone. That’s about it.

How does civil twilight change, it’s defined? 6 degrees is 6 degrees regardless of the time of season so that’s 24 mins after sunset. Simple, 15 degrees per hour, 360 degrees per day.

It changes because The sun’s path over any given point on earth is not orthogonal to the horizon. This is true anywhere on earth (we’re tilted ya know). Around the equator the change is very minimal (negligible actually) but the further north / south you go the more extreme this becomes. In Alaska civil twilight will last well over an hour at certain times of the year.

This is why I don’t think I could be a DPE and probably get quite frustrated with this guy. I would certainly recommend a redo of this especially if you want people to pay. It’s totally understandable that applicants are nervous and everyone is different but at this stage of this applicants flying career he should have been better prepared with your answers to the questions being asked (in my opinion). As a private pilot he should already know most of these questions and studied up on the commercial regs along with airspace knowledge. I appreciate your other videos that you put out there definitely some good stuff to reference. Thanks Jon!

That's the biggest thing to remember not to do and we've all done it. Answer the first part of the question, wait for the next level of the same question (because they typically go multiple levels deep).

I have a commercial in Helicopter, and really need to add on my ASEL commercial, lol! I haven’t even studied in a while and knew most of these answers pretty quickly! Sometimes I’m surprised at how much I’ve managed to retain haha!! One question that came to light though was about the durations of the medical. I received my last third class medical before the “reform” and also right before I turned 40. At the time of issue it was good for 60 months, but once I’ve turned 40 do I lose the last three years of duration and go to 24 months? Or is that just for people issued a third class medical AFTER their 40th birthday? Also, with third class medical reform taking place since my last medical, do those new requirements of doctors visits supersede the previous requirements? To clarify: do I get the whole five years out of the medical I was issued, or does the new medical reform and my new status of being older than 40 make my current medical void and I now have to meet new standards and durations?!

Sorry to say this but the applicant isn't prepared at all for this MOCK CHECK RIDE. Jon being the examiner had to lead him to the answers and he had already made mistakes just in the first section. Needs to be more prepared before taking the actual check ride.

The question asked about his friend paying him to fly his own plane is answered incorrectly by the CFI. You can not be paid via private carriage in your own plane because you retain operational control, and therefore, this is an air carrier or charter operation. Please correct me of wrong.

It’s legal up to one hour after sunset. Pro-Rata share of expenses. It’s a private pilot operation. A good question. When do you need a second class medical? No she can’t pay more. Oil changed? Is that a requirement? (On some it is due to AD) Yes. 24 calendar months. Should know that cold. Not knowing required inspection. Bad. My examiner would make him look it up. “Show me, I’ll be right back” Good example of AD! Good AD discussion. Avionics log. 91.205 TOMATO FLAMES FLAPS Type certificate data sheet. I failed on the inop taxi / landing light. I don’t think it’s required to be entered into the log book if the operator marks it as inop. I’d except POH vs Type certificate.. Greet inop question. My question I love asking. Can we overfly the 100 hour in THIS airplane? NO. We have ADs due at the 100 hour. NO you can’t charge your friends more than an equal share of the operating expenses of THAT flight. LOA ETC. Second half was much stronger. I remember my limitations as a commercial pilot was a big part of my oral.
