Good job man. My CFI would make me come in clean only using flaps in ground effect to give you extra lift.

Thanks! Yeah I did this maneuver with a different instructor and he had a similar style to yours.

Great job colin! Those power off 180's looked really great.

Cirrus sure does float. Try in an arrow and you'll piss your pants when you lose all lift after you put flaps 40,

Justin Outten I flew an arrow once, and you're spot on there. That thing loses life so quickly!

Everything is relative, I guess. Went from a C152 to a C172 and the 172 "floats" quite a bit compared to the 152. But I found the 172 easier and more "predictable / stable" to land than the 152 which tends to be "all over the place", especially in windy conditions.

Don't be afraid of slipping the airplane right into the flare if needed. Awesome job!

Was this after the hail storms we had here a few weeks back?

IMHO your IP should've really emphasized on wind direction and speed since that will be detrimental during a real engine out situation (in terms of glide performance). Also, I would've mentioned to my student the potential risk of slipping and airplane on such a tight maneuver, ESPECIALLY on a base leg to final turn. BE CAREFUL! Anyway I hope you already had your checkride and passed with flying colors.. If not, GOOD LUCK !

Jose Javier Nunez I agree with you on slipping that low, slow, and tight of a turn -- he's an advocate of using it a lot. This was over a year ago, so yes I did pass and thanks!

Just curious... I find a tight circuit always makes a power off 180 approach way too high... So then your stuck extending the down wind. I typically like a wider down wind leg somIm not screwed on base. 20 flaps, save the last 10 or extra 20 for short final, however slips are always the best tool for a high approach.
@ColinPrenger10 жыл бұрын
Yep, I agree with you. Wide down wind and extending the base just a touch works out nicely.

Nice Vid! Why did you blur the instructors face? Just wondering because I've only had one person who requested I not show their face on KZbin. He was military so I assume that's why.
@ColinPrenger10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! He's not military, just personal preference and didn't want to be on the internet.

Ok, that's fair enough. Glad you're shooting the clips you are. Thanks for sharing your aviation experience eh!
