Every roofer has their favorite roof-over system, nothing wrong with this install IMO. The hot BU roof they went over probably was quite old and probably held up quite well before it became a problem. A 30 year warranty for any synthetic or bituminous composite roof system sounds optimistic to me, but the point is that this new roof will remain trouble free for many years. Avoiding tear-offs whenever possible saves everyone a lot of money and hassle. I would point out that the base sheet nail/plate pattern can become more specific depending on local wind zones...It's a good looking roof!

@@FlatRoofDoctor Yes, I've torched semi-loads of APP on re-roof projects (1 small job at a time). I hated tear off's while other roofers seemed love them. I'd get the roof-over jobs that other roofers insisted on tearing off the old. One needs to be creative sometimes. Sometimes old roofs actually need to be fully or partially removed, especially if the structure is spongy, rotted or rusted through. I will say that torching on hot summer days isn't always fun. My worst experience was using APP from a now defunct Chicago manufacturer. The surface started cracking a year or 2 after install, they decided to go out of business instead of stepping up. They must've been using incorrect processes at their plant. It's a good idea to buy common brand name roofing products. I suspect that SBS is a more highly engineered product than APP, although it never seemed to torch as easily as APP.

@@FlatRoofDoctor Why did your own son start his OWN roofing company instead of following in the family business? I notice he does things correctly instead of trying to save a Nickle here and there. Its very telling that he went on his own instead of going with the family business.
@FlatRoofDoctor2 жыл бұрын
I believe in Torch Down and I believe you can put a Torch Down Roof over almost any surface and it will last. My son has OCD, and with that everything must be perfect. The screws that holds the base down are in line, nobody will ever see it. He prefers TPO and therefore the surface has to be perfectly flat. I am not nickle and diming any project, in fact I think I am more expensive in some cases. But, I do believe the 2 ply Torch Down system is superior to any other roofing system. Why not follow the family business? I taught him a lot, even making videos. But I still use my business for promoting and some roof projects. It would be not good for him to take my old projects and run with warranties I gave which he does not agree with. He is far better establishing his Name as the best in TPO and Brand himself as the Best in Quality. He is already in that bracket and is already well known for the quality work. His clients are the ones that can afford his type of work. I always catered to everyone and not a specific group.

He's the kind of guy you can’t help but love! He’s extremely knowledgeable, knows his craft like the back of his hand, and somehow always gets the job done, though sometimes in a way that makes you hold your breath!! His approach? A bit reckless, maybe even a little chaotic. His craftsmanship isn’t exactly refined, but he gets up there with pure determination, great contagious attitude knocking things out in a way only he can. There’s something endearing about him, even if he leaves a few crooked shingle, drops of polytech and seams along the way!

I'm in South Florida, and we have a roofer that we use sometimes that does the same band-aid method.With the hurricanes down here,I think you're better off re-roofing so it can be considered Dade County approved. I see a lot of people who aren't fans of the doctor's work. Personally, I'm not offended, but then again, they are not my buildings.If he really wanted to be unconventional, why not just hot tar over the whole roof and add gravel again. It's only weight, lol.Also,weight would truly be a concern up north where you get snow on your roof...Anyways i been trying to figure out what accent Naas has, at first I was sure it was German then I thought maybe South African 🤔 idk 🤷🏿
