I find the injury conversation fascinating. Pat was quick to push back and suggest there would be data showing the opposite when Silver mentioned that there is no data showing that resting prevents injuries. I want the NBA scientist/doctor data published. There are less off season workouts and more rest and less padded practices and MORE Achilles injuries. Robert Horry was on Julian Edelman's show talking about this and said people don't practice hard enough in the NBA. Julian endorsed practicing hard and said he would practice in the off season teetering on the edge of injuring his body and he felt it hardened him against injuries more than resting would have. It's a fact that certain exercises will strengthen tendons and bones.

@NotaThing1310 ай бұрын
@@kdot9613 well you’re talking about growing up exercising and Julian was talking about between games and seasons. So if they run hills between games I might think that’s a credible anecdote. They’re both one offs anyway and luck certainly plays a role. I wasn’t trying to take Silver’s claim as truth as much as I wanted to see the evidence he claimed to have. The whole thing about running hills growing up doesn’t really apply to rest not preventing injuries.

hahaha based on what NBA players have never been softer, NBA refs have never been more egotistical, the NBA regular season is basically a waste of time, NBA ratings have never been lower, the NBA In-Season Tournament was one of the lamest gimmicks i've ever seen and it was only made out of a desperate attempt to try and make people care about their absolutely meaningless regular season where star players don't even feel compelled to show up and play every night because they love their "rest" and free nights off no good rivalries, nobody plays defense, nobody shows effort (because that would just mean they need more "rest"), it's just a bunch of watered down high scoring stats because all players today wanna do is jack up 3's and not play defense the NBA is a sad product these days and all these issues have been allowed to become prevalent under Silver's direction

For a long time I've thought Pat and crew are the closest thing to Stern and his Wack Pack heyday, before he got weird and unfunny. Stern broke ALL the supposed media rules and was polarizing to some market segments, just like Pat. Yet, like Pat, Howard had a knack for letting interviews flow into interesting, unconventional territory, not just the same soundbites over and over again. Speaking of which, we gotta get Pat on Hot Ones, that would a collab for the ages.

im only a fan of the NFL and NBA so if youre talking about the actual product then idk, but in terms of yearly revenue in order: NFL ~19B NBA ~11B MLB ~ 11B NHL ~7B WWE ~2B NASCAR is only crossing into the billions for the first time with their new TV deal. 7 and 2 dont seem that far apart but when youre talking billions thats an astronomical difference. they arent in the same universe.
@pluginpanda8 ай бұрын
a fun way to think of it is the WWE and NASCAR's yearly revenue cannot afford to buy and NFL team. The top 3 of the big 4 can afford to buy any team including the cowboys, and the NHL can afford the second most expensive team being NE.
