Advise for pokeweek, only the berries are really poisonous, the leafs can actually be used for a southern recipe called pokeweed salad, cooking instructions are easy to find. The stock you can handle, I do so often. Just wash with hot water and soap. But yeah if it's a problem just take a machete it, then dig up the roots else you be seeing it back sometime soon, also dispose of the berrys or you have unwanted problems later.

This, I cleared a jungle of pokeweed behind my shed with a shovel no problem two summers ago. I still use the gloves just fine. The roots can go fairly deep, so you will need a shovel, but it's really not that bad.

With consideration to pokeweed: Hand pulling is effective on small plants. Systemic herbicides should be effective on established plants or a cut stem application (triclopyr) with correct timing. Same as contact herbicides with correct timing. A preemergent herbicide may be useful since the plant can release thousands of seeds annually and the seeds can survive for years in the soil. Since it is perennial, this plant could be a neverending issue if not taken care of soon. I would contact a local county conservation office or university extension for advice as well.

Hey Rubix I work in weed control in Australia. We don't have Korlok the Tyrant Weed around where I work but we do have similar plants called Inkweed. We use a chemical called Lontrel to kill the ones we have and the two plants apparently are quite similar so it might be worth a look into

Have you tried attacking Korlok the Tyrant Weed from below? Like with many things, if you take out the roots of the problem, the problem dies. Alternatively you can follow these tips by the Oregon Stat University once you have cut it down: -Cut off stems that re-sprout from remaining roots. -Dispose of stems, leaves, and roots in the green waste stream, or compost them. -Cut off flowers and berries. Put the flowers, berries, and seeds in a sealed plastic bag. Dispose of the bag in the trash. After that you will still have to dig up the area to ensure that there are no Taproots left in the ground. If you want to spray it, experts do recommend Glyphosate, this should weaken/kill the roots. Just make sure that you remove it early in the season, before it flowers and goes to seed.

Pokeweed, also known as Polk plants are genuinely a nothing plant, and here in the south has historically been a starvation food. If you repeatedly boil the leaves and discard the water from young polk plants you can make polk salad. The berries which are pretty toxic if you eat them, and have a strong pigment which stains stuff which sucks, you'll be fine just so long as you don't go eating the plant or eat without having washed your hands after working it, sound a little dramatic lmao. I've pulled up hundreds of polk plants by their roots in my lifetime barehanded without issue, their stalks are super soft and don't root too deep.
