Awesome work as always! I'm convinced you have the patience of Job. FWIW, the Hyperion Entertainment 40.72 version of Kickstart is from ~2016. Here are some details from the "Workbench Nostalgia" page -> Release 3.1 -> Post-Commodore Enhancements": * exec.library 40.12: Updated the copyright information text. Fixed a small bug in the memory pools code which mirrors the same bug fix in the same code that was used in amiga.lib. * strap 40.3: The Boingball logo replaces the rainbow-coloured checkmark logo. Slightly brighter background colour. * workbench.library 40.6: Rebuilt with SAS/C 6.58 in order to free up more ROM space because of the copyright text in the updated exec.library. No other functional changes. * scsi.device 40.21 for A600: Small bug fix to the IDE task initialization, which now makes it possible to use it on the A600. Older Kickstart ROMs would use scsi.device version 39, because unlike version 40, it did not crash on the A600. * scsi.device 40.21 for A1200: Same binary as used for the A600. There were some minor Workbench fixes and a contribution from Olaf Barthel as well (on the same page as the above data).

I guess that the big question is what happens with the board when the owner receives it back? My bet is that it will go straight on to eBay and sold for a billion dollars. It's quite evident that his/hers understanding of the truth isn't exactly spot on.

Awesome Work as Always, Chris, If they tell me "they tried to fix it", I usually expect Board & Chip Trauma, Aside from that, I had 7 SCSI Drives running off a A590, (Plus the Terminator Socket), 4 on some A2000's, So not the Longest SCSI cable I Seen, but definitely a Anaconda in the Box, After playing with Pi class PC's for a while, I had nearly forgotten the Mess of Older Connectors, except when I look in Box full of Amiga Cables here to remind me, or watch you fighting with one as well..

27c240 eproms can be used to eliminate the rom tower and plug directly in the board. this works for boards up to 7.3 rev. Trivia: that being a rev 6 x board was never meant to be sold,commodore sold them to dealers as demo machines only but since the 3k was a hot seller stores sold those too.

Is that the reason for the tower, different ROM chip size vs. original sockets in the board? Guess that was one way of solving square peg-round hole.

well you CAN burn the old style 27C240 roms, still stuck in the top sockets, but at least it would not directly need the rom tower. i have learned that these rev boards were meant to be the demo models at retailers, but due to the hot demand of the 3000 the were sold.
@alanhaynes4576

@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration so that is a bit of important Amiga history in itself. It was a retailer demo model. I find that fascinating. Thanks for that info. I went to a computer show in Brisbane Australia back in the early 90's and they had 2 x A3000's networked and running Dactyl Nightmare on 3d headsets. My son and I got to have a go and experience that. It was an awesome experience.

Hi Chris, great video & helpful. Couple of questions for newbie working on an A3000 with battery damage. 1. For traces that are battery damaged on the component side, do you always do a repair with bodge wire on the non-component side? 2. What program are you using for the schematics to view traces? Is that kiCAD file or something else? I’ve found PDF and images, but can’t zoom in clearly to see traces on those. Thank you so much for your help! I am learning from all your work.

@Chris Edwards Restoration I have an A500 rev 6a. that seems to be eating expansion cards its driving me nuts :(. the last one I put in was a week ago, newly made from AmiKit and worked until I tried the TestKit disk. ran the memory and it read 1Meg Chip (Mod done). Then ran the memory checker and it glitched on the lower part of the screen just a little bit but with no guru. resetting it and reloaded it only to see 512kb chip :(. have done the usual tricks to try and get it to work but no prevail. what would you suggest could be the lightly culprit or any suggestions on how to point the right direction. Im pulling my hair out and spending more on memory cards than the Amiga it's self.

@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Thanks for the info, the motherboard ram worked fine, even before and after the 1MB chip mod.After cleaning the chips and the U10 - u13's it seem to work periodically. saying for eg. 0.56MB on Testkit then switched off, switched it back on then would say 1.0MB. my guess maybe now narrows down to solder brake maybe or may need a solder re flow on the board something I would like to avoid doing. had to do the same with the keyboard caps was flashing (Once). that was a dodgy pin on the keyboards big chip. again thanks for the information it started to work sort of that was a good place to start, I did try and boot from my Gotek with a 1MB but it Guru ed after :(. lookes as if there could be a more bad joints somewhere.
