UPDATE: LIV2 worked out you can configure the MMU to disable cacheing on the RAM range and get a huge boost in performance when using 060 cards like the proto TF4060! I will re-visit that!

wil there ever be any cards like this for a 1200? would love a spare gb, so i can extract cd images to ram.
@GadgetUK1642 жыл бұрын
@@Caddy666 Very unlikely - you can get the TF1260 with 128MB though - a future revision could provide more I think!

Great video as always. In steel sky (fantastic game) that noise is wrong, seems to be a problem with the WHDLoad version or at least that's my guess. I've not played it on Amiga from disk but certainly on PC there is more of a hiss sound as the press lifts.
@GadgetUK1642 жыл бұрын
I think it varies with CPU maybe... Because it seems to behave differently on different Amigas - from the same HDD setup.

I knew you'd tweak that resistor 😀 May as well do a good job if you're going to do the job in the first place.

Another great video :)

I think I had gotten my Amiga 4000/060 to 256MB. The only use I could find for all of it was by using a recoverable RAM-disk... The ones that survived most crashes and reboots - except for when it didn't, which royally sucked. ;)

12:27 Easy: the weight of the ink causes that teeny tiny part to flip writing-down. ;-)

Why not use hot air & paste for the SMD chips?

My memory is super hazy on this, but I think 'writem' was about writing to a single memory location. I tried a quick google for it, but nothing relevant immediately showed up about it.

The WHDLoad version of BASS always takes an absolute age for the game to start! I've found that avoiding WHDLoad and simply copying the raw files from the CD32 disc and launching the game from HD is instantaneous - but not really the point of your test! :)

10 minute load time? That's scary!!!!

That noise is normal its the press noise it sounds less high pitched on a slower machine 🙂

A faster drive controller would definitely help 🙂

Would that game run faster if you had the FPU enabled?
@GadgetUK1642 жыл бұрын
No, the FPU cannot really be used in that way. A game would need to be programmed to make use of the fast floating point operations it can provide. In this case the slow loading is based on disk and RAM throughput and the huge volume of data loaded.

1gb ram on this machine, or an amiga is practically useless..... i havent seen anything use more than 1 or 2MB on my 1200.... thats just me... what we need is a newer modern OS for this machine that could use some of that ram and dispense it properly. like cache for the cpu.... etc... well, well have to see. good job btw
@paulklasmann12182 жыл бұрын
It depends what you're using it for. I like to write electromagnetic simulaton software which could easily use 1Gb of RAM if it was available. Its obviously very slow compared to a modern workstation, but I like to do it anyway.
