Rock on, I bought 2 sets of ROMS for my 2 VIC-20's. Keep up the great work. Now that I think about, we're very close to being able to have a VIC-20 with completely new parts. Only thing missing is the VIC-I itself. Modern VIAs play nice in the VIC-20, you just need an adapter to get modern 6502 to play nice, you have these ROM replacements, and logic IC's are still being made

Thanks mate. Yeah we're almost there with the VIC-20, just missing the VIC part.

You made my day. Definitely ordering. I have a new VICKY TWENTY which almost works except for a bad kernel rom.

Great stuff mate. Well done keeping them within the original chip footprint, they make for a tidy drop in replacement.

I always thought the VIC 20 case looked like it needed more iron in it's diet. 😁

Very nice! This will keep the machines running for quite a while. I just discovered today, that you have your own store. Greetings from Germany!

Great video and love your work. BTW are those Bunnings shelves I spy in the background :)
@TheRetroChannel5 ай бұрын
Hehe, yep. My benches are also made out of the wider Bunnings shelves

Should it not be MOS inside? Or is that too ominous?

Haha. It was referring to the character ROM

I've swapped the VIC-20 and C64 character ROMs in VICE, which only requires copying the file into the correct ROM folder as wiring doesn't matter. The VIC-20 font is the same as the PET font, which was designed for 40 columns. I prefer the C64 font on the VIC-20 because the PET font looks too thin at 22 columns. I also prefer the PET font on the C64, although it wouldn't look good on a television, but it looks great on a CRT or LCD.

Yeah I think I prefer the 64 font on the VIC20, and VIC20/PET font on the 64

Excellent work. Now all we need is a vic chip replacement. I have 3 vic20s and they all work for now. I bought 2 parts boards a couple months ago... 1 vic has no paddle control and the other has bad audio:( I love the modern roms being available now. Again nice work

I just had a random thought. Maybe this can be applied to the 65C02 to 6502 adapter, because that's just a 65C02, and logic IC, and 3 caps. If someone were to use surface mount parts, I bet it can be made to fit the footprint of the IC because the current adapter looks clunky
@TheRetroChannel5 ай бұрын
Might be possible. It would still have a slightly wider footprint than the original dip package as you'd need to offset the 65C02. Something like an extra 5mm to the left or right

When will your programmable versions relase? Because I was gonna buy some Eprom adapters for my 64s, but they were gonna need assembly and a separate adapter to program them on my T48. But if you relase ones that can be programmed like normal 27c series, I will buy them and program them.

It will be at least a couple of weeks, I'm currently waiting on the revised PCBs to arrive. I also have similar replacements for the 64 on the tindie store

@TheRetroChannel Hello, I want to ask you a question about your RF modulator replacement v2. I have commodore 64 and 128. I'm using a cheap AV to hdmi converter to connect them to my monitor. Converter works fine with my 64, but when I use my 128 screen, it looks washed out. Also, it becomes horrible when I use file browser in pi1541. I found the problem: the luma level of 128 is slightly higher than 64, and that causes a problem. Is there a resistor or capacitor that I can change on the modulator to slightly reduce luma of composite output?

@TUSIP If you have the RF replacement V2, then you should be able to adjust it with the onboard trimpot
