Great tips! I like how it is a mistake to have your lures tied from the night before but the suggestion is to tie lures “the night before, the day before” at 8:20

ahhhh the crankbait hookset! Thanks man, I'm on a binge today and I haven't been able to hookup on a crankbait yet. Few hits but now I see I was setting it wrong and ripping the hooks free.

Hey man, I enjoy your vids. I'm 24 and just got into fishing but I've put some of your lessons to practice and the summers been a blast catching a bunch of bass. If we have request videos or other questions should we just throw them in the comment section a few times?

I am getting into fishing seriously for the first time (been 15-20 years since I dropped a line in)! I stumbled across your video(s) and noticed that I have done several of these, and some of them were bad habits that I learned as a kid! Thanks for the great information and for setting me straight! I am sure that I will return to these videos for more information as my skill level increases!

I like your videos, but there are some differences that are regional. On bait size, it also depends on time of year, location, species, water temp, local forage and Etc. Up here in Michigan in the spring we catch big fish on big baits (pike, walleye, trout, salmon and etc.) but in the summer we usually end up getting the same size fish on smaller baits. The bigger bait fish have usually spawned and have moved back out to deeper water and the smaller fish from the year before are closer to shore. In the fall we will catch the bigger fish on bigger baits again, because a different bait fish is coming in to spawn. In the winter, most fish are caught on very small baits, because a lot of fish are feeding on different forage almost all together. Most of these tips are good knowledge for all fishermen and women to have, but what works for one area does not always work for others. Tight lines. Scott

I agree, that is why I stated that does not mean you cant catch a big fish on a small bait. Most that understand the forage basics also understand the science of matching the hatch to seasonal patterns of the bait. I was trying to help the issue of only catching small fish by explaining the appeal of size verses a willingness to chase. My personal best bass came on a 4" trick worm but that does not mean the average on the bait will be larger than say using a 8" bait.

do you have a video on how to not hook a fish in the throat?
@roguetwiggy18918 жыл бұрын
If you're gut hooking them, try to set the hook sooner. They will swallow the lure if it's in their mouth too long.

that sweeping to the side hookset, does it also apply to when ur working baits with a spinning reel? from shore?
@Milehighsnake988 жыл бұрын
+invadernik It's more about the bait, not the rod. If you're throwing crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, etc., use the sweep hookset.

Thank you soo much, I have learned so much from watching your videos. No one taught me how to fish and I have been losing a lot of fish lately. Your techniques saved a lot of lbs. of fish. Thank you soo much.

Stupid question. I use a soft bait with a spinner on it to find Yellow Perch the switch to slip bobbers and fresh bait ( this is with the kids). The Perch short strike the tail, that is how I know where they are. Why are they short striking? I've tried slowing my retrieval and they still short strike, also it isn't the hook size, I've had Perch inhale #1 spoons with a big trebble hook on it. It isn't a big deal because like I said going vertical on then cleans them up. I just can't figure out why the short strike.

Add a trailer hook to the bait
@Milehighsnake988 жыл бұрын
+MysticKnight38 Color. Short strikes almost always indicate that you have the right bait profile but the wrong color. Case in point. I was yellow perch fishing with a friend a couple weeks ago. He had a white grub on and I had a pink/chartreuse triple tail grub. I kept getting short bites (he didn't get hardly any). So I changed to an all chartreuse grub and stuck 2 right away.

Just found your channel, fantastic! I was wondering what the reason is not to lift the rod above the 10 oclock position when fighting a fish? Is it rod specific? I ask because I lift my live bait rod pretty near vertical. I don't with my jigging rod though. My percentage landed is higher with my live bait rod in structure, probably about the same on the flats.. It's an 8'6" probably considered slow action rod, 15 lb mono or braid, with a 30 lb mono or flouro leader, circle hook, and I target snook. My jigging rod is 7" probably moderate to fast, usually 12 lb mono with a 30 lb leader.I've never thought about why I would arrive at fighting fish differently with the 2 rods. It is a cool feeling to rear back and load that whole 8"6" rod though. It might just be that.

Hey Nick, just a quick question. If I'm using a light crank bait, how do I go about getting it cast out further since it's so lightweight? Any tips?

Congrats! Really nice one again! A lot very good tips. Thanks. A question: I normally used a mono for my bait casting reel. Its okay. I change for the brained line and the drag system start to trip a lot. Can you tell me why??? In general, mono or brained line for the bait casting reel?

About fish hearing air borne noise - some years ago about dusk a friend and I came on a +/- 80 acre pond created by a beaver dam. We were standing on the dam overlooking the pond when I cleared my throat. The whole pond erupted with jumping fish. We let things settle down. I cleared my throat again with the same result. Several repetitions convinced us that fish do hear air borne noise.

If you have money on the line and you don’t retie especially on the Rods you used the day before. You might as well leave your boat on the trailer, consider the money you paid a donation and go home.
