Waoovvv... Just a small add up to people who wishes to own a car in the future in Germany. DO NOT wash your car except in car wash areas to avoid fine! Sounds crazy but only until the fine is arrived :)
@berndhoffmann7703
@berndhoffmann7703 3 жыл бұрын
mind you the fine is maybe the cheapest part of it. If you are washing your car on your own premises and f.ex. the drainage carrying the wastewater now polluted with oil etc goes directly into a river one will be held responsible for the cost occurring to clean it and if any damage was caused, f.ex. fish of a downstream fishery were impacted, you have to pay the damage caused as well.
@SolomonSunder
@SolomonSunder 2 жыл бұрын
@@berndhoffmann7703 But if it is an official car wash whose dirty water is overflowing, apparently that is fine.
@berndhoffmann7703
@berndhoffmann7703 2 жыл бұрын
@@SolomonSunder It depends if it is a natural disaster or if it is the fault of the owner. There are massive fines associated with it. My house borders a river there are at least 2 controls during the year.

@@berndhoffmann7703 I live in Austria. The rules are similar here. But applied hypocritically. When some people wash their cars, the police warns them about dirtying the soil etc. But across the street there is a car wash who dirty water flows out and creates puddles in the street and no one seems to care.

A notable addition: You can't park your car on the opposite side of the road from the Garage of another person, if the Road doesn't have a line in between, like a single road. Imagine I got a visit from Police for doing this!
@SolomonSunder
@SolomonSunder 2 жыл бұрын
The line has nothing to do with it. It is the width of the road that matters. At least that is what I was told in my driving lesson in Austria. But yes, a road with a line in between will be wide enough. In any case, if you blocking a car from entering or exiting a garage, then your car could potentially be towed. Larger companies for example where trucks enter and exit will have a board saying do not park in front despite the road might be wide and has lines.

And when driving a car you always need your driver's license, in case of a foreign non-eu one also the approval of it for German traffic, and papers of the vehicle on you as that is the first thing any police officer stopping you will ask for. And make sure any car you buy/ rent has a up-to-date tüv sigil on it, otherwise it is highly illegal to drive it on German roads and will lead to you being stranded on the side of the road while your car is being confiscated. Though in general german police are very polite and try to help you in anyway they can, often even trying to fix some smaller issues on your car that they have pulled you over themselves. Oh and what is also very important: any time you partake in traffic it reflects on your driver's license, so you will lose it for driving your bike drunk just as you would have if you were driving a car and might even get some entry for (repeatedly) crossing a red pedestrian light (for anyone wondering why we germans are so obsessed with obeying red lights: this is a huge part of that)
@boahkeinbockmehr
@boahkeinbockmehr 3 жыл бұрын
And this also applies if you currently don't even own a driver's license, as i know multiple people back from school that were banned before they even turned 18 to even apply for a driver's license until they turned 25 due to riding bikes drunk at night

Another aspect about defaulting on payments is that if you don't pay up the demanded amount with penalty fines the party you are indebted to will give the case to the Schufa which will hire an incasso company to take away and auction off your personal belongings to make up for the money and you will have a permanent record with said institution which will make it impossible for you to take any loans within Germany for the rest of your life as that is the first registry any bank or government institution will check when checking your application
@boahkeinbockmehr
@boahkeinbockmehr 3 жыл бұрын
And this also applies for small amounts, e.g. i had forgotten about a letter i had gotten from my driving school (after all you aren't really used to doing these things at age 18) demanding 60€ for a double lesson and thankfully got a call from them before they were going to hand the case to the Schufa giving me a chance to come by and pay up the debt in person on that day. 60€ that could have put a huge burden on the rest of my life making it near impossible to ever buy land and build a house

There is a reason why in German we use the same word for debt and guilt as owing money is something very looked down upon and to strongly avoid in our culture (aside from loans for housebuilding or other long-term investments into the future (student loans, loan for starting a business) which are taken with a longtime plan, but any other type of debt is seen as a severe shame)

For swiming in germany just ask the locals. There are some water areas were you can swim/or it's not enforced only locals know about. For Pissing in public nobody will fine you if you piss somewhere in the Woods where nobody is around. The Fines are 95% for city areas. The unnessesary noice thing "Ruhezeit" could you get in serius trubble. Depending on your neigbours. If someone sniched you to the authorities in 99% of all chases police will show up short after and warn you to stop the noice. If you don't comply or they have to come back because there was a second complaint short after they left, they will not joke around period. They will come and kick your door in if necessary and stop what ever is going on party/loud music etc. Most times you will spend the night in police custody.
