The problem that Ive noticed, is that the products on the market that I see being used in videos seem to be the best products, so I get them, and they dont work for me and my setup. Coming from a small town, there is one store that carries products, but its those main products that I'd normally see in videos. Its hard for me to spend more money on something I dont have available to me to see if it works, so I normally end up going cheaper, then go with the more expensive down the road. Its a tough battle to win. If there was stores or something that could show what the product is like on a rifle that would be great, its just not real!

Develop your system, train, know its limitations. Unfortunately the internet presents thins a “ the fix” to a problem, unfortunately more often than not the world isn’t that black and white.
@hueco5002

@@armorers_wrenchmost places you will pay shipping to get the purchase to your door, then you’ll pay shipping to return it. MOST shops don’t do free shipping for purchases and darn near zero do free shipping for return. So, at the end, you’re down $20~30 in shipping costs to try out an item. If you have a stock from company A and a scope from company B and you end up returning both…it adds up fast.
@hueco5002
@hueco5002 Ай бұрын
OP - best thing you can do is make friends with a local FFL and ask them to wholesale in items for you to try. They may charge full retail to you (so, more expensive than online price) - but they will eat the shipping cost and if you return it, you can drop it at their door.

Helpful tip: often scopebite is present when the shooter "rolls" his shoulder foreward when firing the rifle. Learning to not "roll" the shoulder, but rather placing the shoulder in a neutral position with the shooters body weight behind the shoulder/gun helps greatly. This results in a much more stable firing position. My experience with this is that some new shooters try to run a shorter stock and then adjust for eye relief. This results in the stock being too short and the shooter will roll thier shoulder foreward to "close the gap". As all this happens the recoil can be more than the shooter is prepared for and they lack the musculature to hold the weapon steady...resulting in rearward travel of the scope. If you can recognize this in advance you may save the shooter an injury. Best of luck, Phil

I definitely push my shoulder forward into the gun and prefer the shorter stock and it soaks the last of the recoil. That's what the fastest guys sound are doing and with all else being the same I definitely spot faster and more accurate with pushing my shoulder forward.
@philliplopez1501
@philliplopez1501 Ай бұрын
@JNOSNOW Every shooter will ultimately have to choose for themselves. That said, there is no free lunch. What you gain from using techniques such as foreward shoulder placement nets improvement in "first round shot placement". What it costs you is performance in "subsequent shot placement". As for faster? Yes. The trouble is...after twenty years active duty...and four tours of combat with SOF...I never saw a situation where the snap from low ready to squeezing off the shot was actually the determining factor. In other words, my experience was that determined men took deliberate action and the enemy never had a chance. Still, choose the best you can. Best of luck, Phil

@@philliplopez1501 it doesn't help me with first shot, it's more the second shot plus and staying in the scope and on target for follow ups. War and shooting competitions have their own intricacies but with my shooting shoulder having my AC blown out twice in opposing directions and various other shoulder injuries I find it a much better technique although practice and consistency is everything.

@JNOSNOW Ahh, I understand. I have quite a few injuries too. I prefer taller optic mounts due to cervical degradation. I know shorter mounts work better, but it's what works best for me. Sounds like you have found what works for you. Happy Shooting.

I've tried all different types of OPTICS over the years. Micro 3x MAGNIFIER with EXPS3 or EXPS2-2 is my preferred setup for 300Y and in. I do love PRISM style OPTICS like 4x ACOGs . TA31CH-G , TA01NSN and TA02 are my preferred ACOGs . I prefer the Crosshairs style reticle like the TA01NSN. I only have access to 600Y range but realistically shoot 450Y and in 90% of the time . I find it extremely easy for me to use Fixed Power Optics like 3x MAGNIFIER or ACOG . I ran LPVO for years but it did not make me shoot any better . In way faster with Micro Triplier and Eotech setup when compared to LPVO . Have 0 clue who said this but its 80% rule . 80% of the time I'll be shooting 300Y and in . Therefore I do not need 6x or 8x magnification to hit reduced C Zone Steel targets at 300Y.

The B5 precision stock has the 3 different lengths for long action/short action and use of folder. The cheek rest is shortened for AR10-LR308 to clear charging handle, longer for AR-15 action but short enough to clear charging handle and lengthened for folding stock adapters additional length of pull.

You should try being right handed with being left eye being dominant ... aiming becomes interesting ... later after I long since left the army I found I could shoot left or right handed handgun with my left eye aiming (I qualified for my open carry license) shooting right handed at the range officer's request so my wife could be on the far left next to him as she was a newbie ... With a rifle I shoot ONLY left handed by ABSOLUTE need. SOOOOO If I mount classic peep sights as secondary/backups I cant them to the left of the barrel with the peep sight ending up almost all the way to the left and that seems to work just fine. In some cases they can be center mounted in the classic way as they will align enough with the OTHER sights ig scope or more likely red dot. WHAT EVER WORKS ... POINT AQUIRE SHOOT RESET DUH!!! LOOK! SEE! LISTEN! LEARN! LIVE LIVE LIVE!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS NEEDED LEVEL OF TEACHING I pray that the combat level of skills will not be needed in my lifetime (pushin near 70 and beat cancer this last year) but if they come to take my stuff or to put me in a cage till I TAKE A MARK wellllll I think my choice of reaction will speak for itself. Between fighting cancer and other recent concerns my lifetime membership at the local gun range has been neglected, but not much longer. I will keep doing these until JESUS calls me home!!!

Thanks for bringing up proper setup for optics. I have used a number of scope types and brands and currently have a Vortex Razor 1-10x on one of my rifles. I had to carefully play with mounting position to get the optimal eye relief distance for my head position combined with diopter setting to get the best reduction of fisheye and reticle focus. Would it be the best for someone else? No. I have astigmatism and I'm near sighted (corrected with glasses). If someone else tries to use my setup, it will not be ideal. All magnified optics are compromises. Even the most expensive ones. The cheaper ones will likely show weaknesses and flaws in more situations, but they all have compromises.

I need to get in a class because I feel like I just can’t get totally straight behind the gun and the stock in my shoulder isn’t great in the prone. Like only the top half the stock touches and there’s so much air between the bottom half so my muzzle rises. Using a Ctr stock with a sun and shadow 0.25 riser

Many have that complaint about Magpul stocks. They are optimized for use with vest and backpack straps, as the pocket of the shoulder is either compromised or nonexistent. It is for this reason some people choose to switch to B5 Stocks, or anything with a flatter, more vertical buttplate/pad. I would try a B5 to try out if I were you, just to be sure.

Sad to say, most gun owners are bad ambassadors for the gun industry. Gun owners are either awesome, pin d***, wanna-be gatekeepers, ignorant and unsafe, or wielding the little bit of perceived power to hurt people because they were emotionally hurt at some point in their lives. Gun owners are the only ones responsible for the crappy gun laws and "gun nut" stereo types we have in this country. If they would stop making guns seem scary, strange, overwhelming, and painful, then guns would be more popular and have more support. Rant over. Thanks for being one of the good ones.

Um, gonna disagree. Mass shooters give bad name. General population does not. Most gun owners you don't even see or know about. As they keep their guns away, and that's most people, not some small group Most gun owners are responsible, but select view mess it up. Government has been actively trying to strip away your right under a premise of safety, similar to ban of firearms in Soviet Union in 1970s When you write stuff like that and such, you allow that narrative to build further case against all gun owners Rather than select few that glare in the news
