Great Video Keith, Glad you managed to get some Kingfisher shots. The bird does look rather bedraggled, after a busy breeding season. I can see where you are coming from, with regards to taking photos of the Kingfisher. You can't beat the thrill and excitement of walking along a river bank and a bird suddenly appears. If you are lucky there might be the chance of a few shots, but it feels more of a natural setting, rather than a staged one...🙂👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks Eddie and totally agree with what you are saying. Spending many hours on the side of the river in freezing temps always makes the feeling better...lol

Keep going buddy. It took me over 2 years to find the Kingfishers on my local river and another year of observing them. Now I know them so well I'm set up and ready before they even turn up. I've now taken hundreds of images and video of them and most of the time without a hide. It's all about dedication and you seem like you've got plenty of dedication and a real passion for it. Keep up the great stuff, I've subscribed and I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Thanks Dean, I certainly don't give up easily. Thats what it is all about though the challenge of getting the shot that you really want. Thanks for watching and appreciate the sub. Stay safe mate, cheers Keith.

Hi Keith a nice video I do love Kingfishers I also love to paint them to, I think a lot of wildlife not just birds are looking a bit worse for wear this year with the extreme hot weather not helping as everything has ended up having two lots of babies and in some cases three lots. I understand about the hide getting busy but just another one of those things photographers have to put up with but then they are there for everyone but you did get some lovely images. Until next time take care and stay safe my friend.

Hi Clive. Yes I think this year the birds are looking a bit tired but I guess they are also going through molt so that does not help. Still beautiful birds though and always a pleasure to see. Stay safe my friend. Cheers Keith

Thank you Keith. Totally agree with you about seeing them on the riverbank. Less people, better the experience. Any time spent in nature is always good and some good images to boot. Thanks again. All the very best. 👍📷😎

Hi Keith, glad you got some shots of the kingfishers. I agree though seeing a kingfisher on a wild stretch of river is certainly best. I've been to Rye Meads but I got my best kingfisher images on one of my local rivers. All the best, Steve.

Agree with you Keith, if there's too many folk around nattering it takes away the 'nature' element. Like yourself I much prefer the harder option of finding your own wildlife by putting in the hours, & it's very satisfying once you learn the subjects behaviour & they come to a new perch that you have introduced yourself. I have nothing against nature reserves either, I support the RSPB & my local Suffolk Wildlife Trust, and a couple of others too - but they can get very busy as you say. In fact, I haven't visited any of the popular ones close to me Minsmere, Lakenheath, Lackford at all this year. I have a lovely little patch close by where I live, and I have done very well from there. Most of the time it's been just me or myself & my mate Steve. Nice! Going back to your Kingfishers, if they are on their third brood of the year that's great for the future, as not all the youngsters survive their first winter. They both looked a bit bedraggled, and one of them looked like a scruffy juvenile too. Great vlog as ever mate, keep on keeping on. Best, Nick

Great to have your support Nick and good to think we think in the same way. I am lucky to have a great nature reserve on my doorstep and when I look at it relatively quiet with a great group of regulars. Thanks again mate, cheers Keith

Well that wasn’t bad at all Keith Love those Kingfisher shots even though the birds were a bit ruffled!! I know what you mean about your local spots. But still it seems to be a pretty good guarantee of some good captures from Rye Meads Another relaxing and enjoyable watch mate 👍👍👍

Lovely images Keith, as you say it’s much more rewarding to capture them through observation and putting the time in. I’ve had a brilliant Summer doing just that. When you have a successful day all the No show days are forgotten 👍

Very honest video Keith & couldn't agree more, keep trying for your local birds, you will get them one day and have more fun and adventures trying. A lot of birds are going through molt at this time of year so will look a bit scrappy. Hope you're well, take care.
@KGsPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stewart. Yes it is difficult to take a positive view of it really but as you say with the birds going through molt at the moment it certainly doesn't help. I am good thanks, hoe all is well your end too. Cheers Keith

Very enjoyable video Keith. I totally disagree with one of the comments on here about nothing to see at Rye Meads. It's my local RSPB reserve and go there regularly and am often astounded at how much I see for a relatively small place. It was great bumping into you today btw at Lackford. I hope my seed brought down the Nuthatch 🙂 Keep up the good work.
@KGsPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry. Great to meet and chat with you today. I think sometimes it is a case of managing our expectations when we visit reserves, as I think we discussed, each day can be very different. Thanks for the seed, it brought down the Marsh Tit and the Nut Hatch which was great along with the other birds. Did bring the Pheasant back too... 😂. Appreciate you watching, cheers Keith

I visited Rye Meads for the first time a couple of weeks ago and although I got some decent shots of the Kingfishers I too felt underwhelmed by the experience. Like you I found the hide too busy and noisy with chatter and machine gun burst shutter mode from those with DSLRs. It’s just not relaxing. The birds always appeared from the right hand side of the hide with fish, so I’m guessing they were fishing on the main river, I walked along there but the path is only close for a short distance so I didn’t get any sightings.
@KGsPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, I am glad I am not alone in my thoughts. Like I said if you have never seen one then it is a good option but other than that leaves you a bit deflated. Thanks for watching, cheers Keith.
@robinlee75312 жыл бұрын
Despite being local to Rye Mead RSPB, I only visited 2-3 times only. The old KF hide used to be filled up with people and are usually very noisy. The birds are quite far away for any decent KF images, you will probably need a 600mm with 1.4x or 2x converter. It's nice to see they have a new hide but judging from your video, it seems that they have not improved the distance and the perch is right in the middle of the pond. Apart from that, there's nothing much to see around the reserve, it is just your average bird site. Lakenheath or Lackford Lakes offers a better view. Also, please consider RSPB Rainham Marshes if you want to see bearded tits.

Thanks Robin and appreciate the tip for the Bearded Tits. Never been to Lackford lakes and will probably make a trip there soon. Cheers Keith

Must admit i dislike anything that is contrived or false to get images of a bird ,even a star bird like the kingfisher, much more fun to get the shot on a river after putting in the hours of research and patience in my view. I especially dislike baited hides that people pay £100 etc to take pics, i mean where is the fun and sense of achievement in that?
@KGsPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree regards the baited hides Stephen, no real sense of achievement there but if it is what you like them each to their own. I went to the Red Kite hide in Wales and although some great images it was not really a challenge when I look back although great to see them growing in numbers.
@stephenedmunds2072 жыл бұрын
@@KGsPhotography The red kite feeding stations have been great for the amazing recovery of red kites in the UK so at least it had a real purpose and i have been to gigrin farm in wales myself. Its not really for me though but as you said "each to their own"
