I love it! I am a white American, raised in a loosely christian home. I got into Sikhi about a year ago. Im trying my best to learn and aside from channels like Basics of Sikhi, theres not a lot of English-speaking Sikh content to enjoy. So, thank you very much for this! If it means anything, I would be more than happy with any more Sikh content you wish to create. Daily life, holidays, etc.

@@onkars Honestly, it was random curiosity of the religion and I was just instantly hooked. Everything about it just made sense to me. My family are your typical Sunday Christians so God has always been in my life but I always felt like I was missing something. Like I was spiritual, but I wasn't getting the whole story. Then Sikhi made everything fall into place for me. I started watching a lot of basics of Sikhi and specifically the street parchar of Jagraj Singh and I just couldn't get enough. I love that as Sikhs, we are literal students and we learn from our Guru every day. Nanak Naam is another channel that I got really into. I started watching this channel about a year ago, as I helplessly tried to to a dastar like yours(I still can't get the hang of it) but all of your content has been wonderful. I have a long way to go to where I want to be, but I try to make progress every day.

As a sikh with many muslim friends, none of them really wear turbans. I guess culturally it depends on where you are. My turban is "messy style" it varies but it is bright yellow usually so there is that. Keep up the good work, truly inspiring me for the new year to hit the gym.

Thank you for this!! There's also this common misconception which you have unknowingly cleared in this video. It is about Amrit Dhari sikhs hating on Sehaj Dhari sikhs for "not following the religion the correct way", but at the end of the day our Gurus and Guru Granth Sahib Ji have taught us the most essential rule of following Sikhi, which is acceptance, love, and tolerance for the world. And as you mentioned, it all comes down to their personal choice. If Guru Nanak Dev Ji can have a heart as big to fit in people of all religions, then so can His Sikhs.🙏 Oh and also, remove that price tag, the jacket suits you quite well!😉

Thanks for your video, very educational, always good to learn more. Great people most Sikhs, I am not one of them, yet I have learnt a lot personally from their teachings on what it takes to be a good human being and when it is righteous to act a certain way, to me they are Inspiring, and that has improved my life in some form even If I do not understand Punjabi and out right say to every Sikh that I meet that I feel that way about them, despite differences on the outside to me we are One, because the hearts are Similar for the most part, most that I have met have shown only positive aspects to life, way it should be, worlds nicer when we all get along and try help people where we can, I like the whole concept of Saint Soldiers, anyway hope you all have a happy new year 2024.

cool video, thanks Onkar. to add a little nuance: keshdhari is usually used to refer to a sikh who has their hair intact without being baptised, and sehajdhari, as Onkar mentioned, for non-baptised sikhs but usually for those who don't keep their hair.

another very crucial aspect about Sikhism i want to mention is our definition of god. unlike Abrahamic c religion Sikhism states god is the universe, it is the reality that forms the world, the mountains, trees , birds everything is god. one must surrender his/her ego to find it and achieve liberation. there is no heaven or hell, only the world itself. its us humans who are devils and the angels. i believe majority of the sikhs have Abrahamic visualization of god.

Brother, Siri Guru Granth shab ji is the true guru's, perfect full masters, but not the only, they have been coming here since the day of the creation and until the world finishes, we need to search for that shabod, in the bible they called it the word, in the karan it was known as the klaam, that great Guru Gobind Singh ji, has come here many times since the creation of the world, and still is coming, we just recognise him, because we limit our selves to religion, page after page it states , one need a pefect guru, wheather it was 2000 years ago, then, now, or 2000 years in the future. respect bro

The difference between a Sikh and a Muslim is not appearance. If someone wears attire and a turban like a Sikh, it doesn't make them a Sikh! If they wear attire like a Muslim, it doesn't make them a Muslim! The main difference between a Sikh and a Muslim is there beliefs. For example, a Sikh believes that creation is a part of the creator and they're not separate. Whereas as Muslim believes that the creator and creation are separate.

Greet Muslim brothers with Guru Sahibs Fateh Sikhs tie the style you have, became popular in world wars and often worn by Keynan Sikhs. Historically the Khalsa wore round turbans or dumallas which constitute many turbans. Traditionally and some would say religiously prescribed primary turban colours are white, blue, orange and black. The reason Sikhs keep hair is simple its an order from our 10th Master and in the Sikh code of conduct. In conclusion and in the past the majority of religious people in the Indian subcontinent at least all kept their hair and wore turbans. Even in the west women kept their hair covered and dressed modestly prob until 1900s or so. Modernity and shift in thinking to please others has got us to what we see today. Everyone is born with hair, it's part of the Almighty s design we choose to fit into societal norms and spend our lives pleasing others to fit into an ever shifting mould, this way one is never content. Follow Basics of Sikhi for more detailed videos on the path.
