I remember Donaire capitalizing on this move to counter Inoue several times in their first fight. In the second fight, Inoue learned from his mistakes and used this weak jab deliberately to bait Donaire until countering the counter at the end of round 1. Good video in any case, with very clear examples. Personally, I'm convinced that the mistakes made by some boxers at this level are also due to fatigue, adversity, panic or simply reflex. A jab is a punch that you throw mechanically without thinking, especially when you're short of solutions. It's hard to get rid of certain bad habits, especially when you're not thinking clearly.
@TeacherDoug7
@TeacherDoug7 11 күн бұрын
Yeah, the narrator doesn't mention that you can use a single jab to bait an opponent and counter the counter. That's usually how Loma uses it. It's not how Ricky Hatton used it though haha.

I'm just a beginner when it comes to Boxing; but the way I was taught to jab is to do the explosive step-in jab where you lower your center of gravity, immediately followed by a 2 if the jab lands (it's a good feeling when you snap the opponents head back and follow through). These have to be the most clean & conscise layman-friendly breakdowns I've found on the ytbc 👍

Thanks brother Gems, another stellar breakdown, seems some boxing careers flourish while other careers die by this very punch, the mid range Jab!!! Man Teo did great against Taylor, that catch and shoot and parrying he did w/Taylors jab was phenominal!!! Thats why I'm so up on Gary A Russell, that dude has the fundamentals down solid, he rarely admires his work and is always firing off double and tripple jabs, An single mid range jab with no followup is like the ole saying that “The Universe abhors a vacuum” if one leaves empty space something will come along to fill it!!!

You don't have to follow the jab up with a power punch or defensive move if you are READY TO REACT to what your opponent follows with. One reason to do this is to see how your opponent reacts to your jab. Then you know which counter to follow your jab with next time.

I feel like when Crawford and Spence fought Crawford was hurting him from mid range jabbing with Errol at the same time a lot and hurting him with them. Then again that’s why buds a world class fighter because he can put himself in the fire but with precision. It felt like they were jabbing together Crawford was Landing every time by catching Errol’s shot, having better position , being faster and changing speeds and power too.
@BoxingGems
@BoxingGems Ай бұрын
I have a vid on it. Crawford’s split entry (simultaneous counter) jab isn’t the same as what’s being described in this vid. I also have a video breaking down how EJ isn’t a counterpuncher from mid range to outside which gives Crawford license to initiate with a jab to mid range with virtually no consequence. A simultaneous counter works on jabs regardless and is really a factor of timing the jab. That timing is disguised in large by feints. But any defensive maneuver then counter (for example a slip-counter) obviously isn’t one single motion and takes more time to deploy. Thats when the single mid range jab becomes a risky maneuver. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIWtlYCfh9SBY80si=4IWtMIXvbhKQE9mi

Hey Gems, what's good! What's your overall assesment on the upcoming Bivol-Betervieb match? I've been watching film from both fighters and I see some red flags from Bivol, wich make me worry of a knockout: in the fight against Canelo, in the later rounds, Saul started to counter some of those mid range paws, probes and jabs use to control him and Bivol did'nt seem to catch up; wich makes me think that Canelo's mind was'nt wired to counter early on or he simply had'nt picked up Bivol's timing, wich makes me think that if a smaller, ploding Canelo was able to counter those mid range probes (even if he started too late) a more fundamentally sound, stronger and bigger Betervieb would probably see the opening earlier, and something tells me that Betervieb's punches are gong to hurt Bivol a lot.

Canelo wasn't countering that much bivols probes and feints and the timing of canelos offense and footwork made it easy, but with bivol it's the lack of head movement when he throws the jab, level changes and someone eith good slip counters will get off on him. Beta has good level changes, that's why it's dangerous.
@desanctisapostata
@desanctisapostata Ай бұрын

@@firellparker7463 Well, obviously not, given how the fight ended. But I've rewatched the fight, and unlike the first rounds in wich Canelo was pretty much only ploding and mindlessly repeating the same setup with almost no attempt to ever counter, in the later rounds he started to counter and Bivol was'nt really defending well. That's the parallel that I see and the things that makes me put my money on Artur

@@BoxingGemsif you are up to it, maybe you can make a video showing a better alternative to a single mid range jab Some people are visual learners.

@@jaysonwilliam850 You can do it. Just take your head off line (like a slip,bob,duck) or follow up with another punch. I don’t know if that’s video worthy fam.

i really do not understand this well, then every jab with a step is a mid range jab?

If you are outside range then you step jab and your opponent doesn’t move, are you still outside range?

David Haney got his ass whipped on a very fundamental level by a C fighter. What does that make him? I DON’T THINK RYAN IS A C FIGHTER, BUT THEY DID

This is either incredible ignorance or trolling or he didn’t understand the content. Probably trolling. A single mid range jab is very easy to avoid. Saying you can’t avoid throwing a single jab to midrange or a single jab while you’re mid range without moving your head or following up is absolutely ridiculous. Double jab, triple jab, 1-2, lead with power, single jab in-level change, single jab in-slip, half step jab from outside, single jab-pull,……….. There is no need to give video forms of alternatives to actual fighters. If an actual fighter can’t make any of these adjustments they should go do something else. Actual fighters can and do make these adjustments and avoid single mid range jabs literally all the time.

@@BoxingGems Hey just box first and then analyze later! We all know that kind of situation is not a good thing, but when you box, You can't avoid that situation. You say that is a "mistake" but I say that is not a mistake.

It wasn't the job that caused the trouble it was doing nothing defensively after it. He didn't guard his head with his other hand or step back. At once Ryan caught him with that, he knew he was going to catch him with it all night. And I'm willing to bet if you saw their first amateur flights Ryan capitalized on this same mistake.
