Tyson Fury has one advantage going into this fight. He is facing an older Oleksander Usyk with more miles on the clock. He is almost 38 and has taken a lot of punches throughout his lifetime. He is not gonna be as fast, reactive and sharp as before.

What you're describing as success with Fury's long guard to me is just more like spoiling, it's not really controlling the fight. He was backing away and sticking his long arms out without really hitting back with anything substantial. It didn't seem like he was doing enough to be actually winning rounds, just avoiding taking damage. Yes he managed to make it difficult at times for Usyk to land substantial punches, but Usyk still did land enough punches and had clear ring generalship to me that the first three rounds were quite clear Usyk rounds and he landed enough damage to set up Fury's inevitable fatigue.
@BoxingGems4 күн бұрын
Their has to be a mixture of tactics to win rounds but the key to boxing at a high level is control. The long guard helps control pace by shutting down your opponent engaging. You want to exchange when you want to fight, not when he wants to fight. It also helped set up the counter uppercut. But I generally agree, too much long guard with little engagements is spoiling and lost Fury a couple of the opening rounds.

Fury will have success like he did in the first fight. But Usyk seems to always have a way. Besides the wrinkles to his game (Fury has these too), Usyk has a near indomitable spirit (have to say Fury does too, but one beat the other so advantage Usyk). Only way I see Fury winning is if he starts attacking the body heavily in the early rounds, then counter-adapt to the inevitable adjustments Usyk will do. Of course, he can't afford to make any errors. I'd say he shouldn't admire his work too much, but Fury fights best when he's cocky. I think Usyk will somehow find a way to win, but this will be his toughest most harrowing fight to date.

Strange spin on it. To me it seemed that Fury failed with the long guard, and Usyk was all over him, repeatedly hitting his body, forcing Fury to change tactics. Did you give Fury any one of the first 3 rounds? If so is that because you just ignored the body punches?
@BoxingGems4 күн бұрын
No spin, just boxing knowledge and film. The long guard worked in some sequences and didn’t work in other sequences like the video showed in most the rounds. It succeeded most the time when used properly and failed most time when it wasn’t used properly. How either of us scored the fight is irrelevant. The judges split rounds 2 and 3 if that’s valuable info to you.
@glennspigel63454 күн бұрын
@@BoxingGems I appreciate you studying the film. But I'm sure you realise other people with "boxing knowledge" think Usyk won it clearly. From watching the video I got the impression that you were suggesting that Fury was winning them with the long guard, but was occasionally using it wrong when against the ropes, and that he then just changed guard to win it even more (rather than wanting a break from the numerous body shots and choosing to cover his ribs more, for example). I don't think Tyson wanted to be on the ropes. I think the reason that Tyson was against the ropes was due to Usyk cutting down the ring. You didn't seem to comment on how Usyk managed to force the larger man against the ropes, when fighters like Dillian Whyte, and Chisora were unable to do so. And as for the judges, Tyson was the cash cow, so it isn't surprising that they might be biased. Even so, all of them had Usyk ahead going into round 4. Out of interest, if you have the data after studying the film, how many punches did you have each of them landing in each of those first 3 rounds? If you haven't, it doesn't matter, but maybe it is something you could give a break down on in future analyses, as the normal compubox stats normally seem wrong, done as the fight is going, rather than being judged by watching the film in slow mo. Anyway, all the best with the channel.
@dba_coachschmitt35474 күн бұрын
“To me it seemed…” The film in the video demonstrates both effective and less effective use of the long guard by Fury in the fight. In professional fight analysis, which Boxing Gems is, what “seems” to you is irrelevant without any film to back your particular perspective.
@BoxingGems4 күн бұрын
@@glennspigel6345 Uh, I had Usyk winning the fight. It’s pointless to read the rest if you start out with that.
@glennspigel63454 күн бұрын
@@dba_coachschmitt3547 I don't think Usyk hitting Fury with body punches throughout those first 3 rounds was in doubt. I think the first minute of the video lauded Fury's long guard, while showing him land about 1 jab, before at around the 1 minute mark conceding that Fury had a problem taking straights to the body. But in the video they are dismissed as not being powerful. However they were rear hand shots, and a few were shown, and you could see the ripples in Tyson's body. And aiming at the body to get the opponent to drop their hands is as I understand it a tactic that has been used in boxing before. That Tyson changed his tactics after a few rounds of getting his body repeatedly hit with rear hand shots, could be thought to suggest that those punches hurt enough to get him to change his tactics (as Usyk had presumably planned). The video itself contains the evidence.

Fury will do exactly what he did the 1st fight. Try and slow down the pace and control distance. Fury needs to win a few of the 1st rd to have a chance. Him letting Usyk win rd1-3 was horrible cause it forced fury to work hard to catch up and take the lead and by rd9 he was gassed. I still see Usyk winning again and this time in a better fashion unless Father Time slow him down which still won’t be enough to let fury win. The usyk that fought Aj 1&2 would have overwhelmed fury and stopped him by rd 9

Thanks you for the vidéo, people tend to forget how spécial it IS to get knowledge about the élite level.Idefinitively don't miss the Time when you only had magazines.💪 That being Said, i think that youdon't mention the effect of thé pressure Usyk maintained on Fury I think hé abandonned the long guard because Usyk level's changes tired him, and keep a long guard during all the fight became exhausting. Another way of seeing it IS to admit that fury's uppercuts couldn't stop Usyk. You won't deny that Usyk reinvented himself as a more offensive fighter against his biggest opponent and for and he broke him for a moment. You could hear sugar Hill screaming him to close thé distance and get to him but Fury didn't do it because hé ate too many overhands.
@BoxingGems4 күн бұрын
Respect. You’re assuming Fury didn’t want to fight moving backwards where it was obvious that was his game plan. It’s not an uncommon game plan as taller/ longer fighters are able to keep their height and distance using their length more effectively moving backwards and laterally against smaller fighters. The long guard in of itself is a means to back out safely so it works well with the strategy. Their are options to stay in place as well, meaning, It’s a choice. Fury didn’t abandon the long guard. I could have shown clips of it’s usage in most the rounds in the first fight. It worked in most the rounds when it was used properly. It didn’t work when it wasn’t used properly. Fury’s uppercuts hurt Usyk at least twice. Once to the body, once to the head. It was literally Fury taking advantage of Usyk moving forward trying to close distance. So the narrative that Fury wanted the pressure to stop is problematic. You can still close distance even if you’re generally moving backwards. In fact, the opposite of the strategy I explained is where the smaller fighter uses lateral movement to bring the taller fighter to him and give up their height isn’t uncommon either. Shawn Porter would sometimes use this as a tactic for example. Bringing the tall fighter to you then closing distance was the point. As a heavyweight, Usyk has generally kept the pace high as a strategy which means he’s in range to throw punches and out working opponents. If the opponent backs up, he has to follow to do that. If his opponent stays at range, he can stay at range and do that.

@BoxingGems Thanks for the Time you took to answer me, it was a nice surprise this morning 🌞 I agree with what you said, of course, but i was talking about the mental and physical effects of Usyk's pressure that led Fury to make the mistakes you pointed. And since round 8 if i'm not wrong Fury seemed to fear more the overhands he had been eating. Usyk ate a lot of uppercuts, who seemed more powerfull than the one who knocked out Whyte, but it didn't stopped him. AT that Time i thought hé was going to be ko'd. This is a prop we must give to him, like WE do it for Ali against Foreman .Mental strenght in the dictionnaire will be illustrated with his picture! And correct me if i'm wrong (i'm french), before round 11 (or 12), Sugar Hill screams him to "slip inside", what i interpreted as a way to get Closer to counterpunch, but he didn't do it. Anyway, i admire thèse two fighters (and i love 💗 Gems toi🎉), i will miss them terribly when they will be gone, both of them are very spécials, and they delivered one of the greatest fight i've Seen.
