I have been asking "are you opened" for business incorrectly, unknowingly, for quite a while now. No one has ever corrected me. Thank you for this!

The use of 3ar9 to a chap can definitely be in a nice, complimentary way too, with a wink of the eye, to mean that he's street-smart and roguish in a likeable sort of way. It isn't necessarily bad all the time

I look at the verb حاول like 'he attempted to do something'. For example, he attempted (tried) to fix it. And the verb جرب like 'he tried something (an experience)'. For example, he tried the coffee. Both of them can be translated into 'he tried' in English but they have different meanings.

It does not directly relate to the number of tries. جرّب is to try when it means something like to experience حاول is to try when it means something like to attempt
