This is why you go out to the Phoenix vally 1st before you move out there. Go more than one time and go at different times of year. That includes summer. Drive your rent a car around to different areas such as Scottsdale,North Scottsdale,Gilbert, Central Scottsdale, Paradise Valley etc. Go to the grocery stores, mall, movies,research jobs,doctors and dentists. See if you really can picture yourself living there day to day. My first time out there was August. I loved it. Talk to any friend or family who already live out there. Ask them about the good,bad and ugly. Watch channels like this for free information on where to live that is more desirable for you, your family and budget. Yes rent for 1 year before you buy a condo or house. Research the job market for your field before you go there. The utilities will be hight for electric similar to your gas/ heating bill in the winter. Just a few things I am doing before I relocate to the Phoenix vally.

Vegas is hot as hell! I was there and told a friend of mine that I don’t see how fat or older people can take this heat. She said funny you should say that because she had some friends move to Vegas. They were fat and/or older. All of them died. Even young fit people may face sudden dehydration because they come from climates where it wasn’t an issue so they don’t see it coming. All heat isn’t the same. Just because you can take humid heat like in New Orleans or the mid-Atlantic doesn’t mean you’re prepared for the intense dry heat of the western desert. Just saying.

Back in the 1960s when I was in 2nd grade and we were living in a suburb of San Jose, CA, my mother discovered a rattlesnake in our laundry room, between the garage and the rest of the house. She backs up until the snake crawls under the washer/dryer, and then she sneaks into the garage to grab a garden hoe. Then she stands by the garage-to-laundry-room door, hoe in hand waiting for the snake to come out. When it finally comes out enough, my mom pounces with the hoe and cuts it in half. Just daily duty for a suburban housewife! We should have eaten it, but we weren't like that. Both of my parents had Phds and both lived through WWII, countries that were overrun by an Axis enemy, on the other side of the world. My father during his college years in China, and my mother during her high school years in Luxembourg, Europe. They both had thick foreign accents, and as a family, we definitely didn't fit into the neighborhood. My Mom definitely had never ever seen a rattlesnake before then.

This is a good and informative video, but a lot of it doesn't apply to me. I have excellent navigational instincts, and can usually find my way if I do get lost - I never use GPS, or any other navigational software - and besides, I have a lo tech old flip phone anyway. I don't have pets or kids to leave in the car, and I don;t have enough money to buy a house - I rent rooms via Craigslist. However, everybody needs to watch out for the dry heat! One thing I found that really helped when I lived in Tucson was eating seaweed and other sea vegetables in the summer, to replace the minerals and electrolytes lost through sweating. Another thing I learned to do was to not go on any long hikes in the summer - went on some long killer hikes in the summer in the Rincons outside of Tucson, and I just barely made it out alive. Dehydration is real, folks! I didn't have any run-ins with rattlers in Tucson, but there was a time when a huge Bull Snake (a non-venomous snake, thank God!) slithered over the toes of my hiking boots when I was hiking in the Rincons. I was reading a book at the time that said that Bull Snakes were a bad omen for the Navajos. There's a lot of talk about malicious creatures like scorpions and rattlesnakes, but in all my hiking experience in Arizona, I would say that the stuff you really gotta watch out for is the aggressive, malicious vegetation - in other words, the cactus!!!

I really do not like the suburbs here...but that is just me. I've lived in the suburbs for over 20 years, and could not wait to get out. I've been here for 35 years. I came for the heat! Some of the lessons I learned; when you have to go somewhere in the large towns, ASK FOR THE CROSS STREETS. Some of our roads start in one city and go across 3 or 4 towns and all the way into west Phoenix. Realize that the way you stay inside during the winter months, in the northern climates, you will want to stay inside during the summer months. Have any yard work needing done, get up at the crack of dawn. Get it done and get inside. If you have to go sight seeing or out in the heat, carry WATER, and an umbrella. No it is not going to rain, but the sun can do you in very quickly. The people here are a bit standoffish. If your from the mid-eastern and southern states, your use to saying hi to strangers. Keep doing it. Help these Az. people see and hear what friendliness is! DO NOT GO OUT IN OUR THUNDER STORMS. They are very dangerous. Teach your children what a black widow looks like. Learn about what lives here and what to be careful with. Wish you well and remember if you can't take the heat, you do not desire the winter!

Disliked, funky energy there in Vegas unless you are into gambling and partying, no culture there....boring to live there outside of the strip. Not much else to do. Moved to AZ over a year ago from CA love it, there is culture here, and currently rated 2nd top job market per stats, cost of living is excellent to purchase a home and taxes are much cheaper than CA. People are much friendlier, freeways are much nicer. Scorpions are NOT everywhere. Stay away from washes, water ways, golf courses and foothills/preserves and do not plant certain bushes they are attracted to. Seal your home and use a exterminator regularly if needed. Most important do your research! Did I say research, research areas where they are not common and areas to live plenty of info on the Web and from a good realtor. Did this and never have a problem. Same in Vegas they scorpions like to migrate in certain areas, never had an issues in two homes in NV. Comparing AZ to Vegas, Arizona is by far a better place to live. If you can get through 4 months of heat the rest of the year is gorgeous for outdoor living. When it is raining and cold in CA you are living it up in your yard or outdoor living. Lived inland in CA and temps did get to triple digits--go into your air conditioned home. It did help leaving in Vegas before AZ to adjust to the heat temps, so it was not a shock when moving here. Buying in the outskirts away from Phoenix you can get a new or newer home at a great cost compared to CA. Costs are starting going up since a lot of people are moving here, still 1/3 the cost of living in the Bay Area, CA. Mass exodus from CA. It is spread out, and It is very easy to get around if you know which freeways to stay away from for commuting. High traffic fwys 101 North, 10 are some of the worst during commute time. We planned where to work and live which makes the commute fairly easy. Advice, do not listen to just one or two peoples opinion as everyone is different on what they like and there are so many places to discover and live. Plan visits to discover different areas, maybe rent first before you buy. No regrets moving here.

I spent my early years a mile west of the MetroCenter area, off of Peoria. My husband and I are considering moving back in a few years and I really like the Gilbert/Chandler/Queen Creek area... I might even consider Ahwatukee. But, my heart still loves that sweet little old neighborhood that I lived in. I love the homes. Some of my old neighbors still live there. At first, I didn't want to consider the area. I have insisted on the Gilbert/Chandler area. But... my heart keeps going back. The area seems to be up and coming. My hubby and I have hung out in the area pretty extensively. He likes it. It's going back home for me. So, my question is... Do I need to give it up? Is it really a terrible area? I mean, I don't hate Gilbert/Chandler by any means, lol.

This is the desert. Plant a native low-water trees to shade your yard. Don't plant a lawn. We are in the midst of a 20 year drought. Our CAP water is pumped 328 miles from the Colorado River. That water has been over-allocated between 7 states and Mexico. It is stored in at Lake Mead. You might have seen pics of what looks like bathtub rings where the water level has gone down. If it goes down below a certain level, the pumps will not work.

Appreciate your videos, but more interested in smaller towns, prob mid-elevation to avoid the winter AND summer extreme weather. Any thoughts?

How come you left Prescott? Medical facilities or lack of? I lived in Scottsdale for 10 years which was wonderful. Next move may be to Prescott....reason why? Cooler than the Valley, more of a home town feeling. Sedona is too tourist oriented.

@@peterjordan2738 we left because Californians were moving in by the dozens and the cost of living and rents went thru the roof...!

Also the lovely small town feel was gone...oh and they have tons of rehabs . They are residential homes that the state has bought and 7 or more people are in a home. Brings down the nice residential family feel.

Where in mesa would you consider is a good place to live and the bad areas?
@catherinewood63274 жыл бұрын
West Mesa from the 101 to Mesa drive, all north to south is no damn good. You will want to stay north of university and East of Mesa drive.

Hey quick question I’ve been visiting the Phoenix valley for the last 10 to 15 years and I’m planning on moving there during the end of the year 2020. I want to build a home there and the cost I’m paying for this type of home will be around the high 8’s. Can you consider me what area to build besides Scottsdale because I like estralla and Goodyear and verrado but that’s just too far out and I would like to be somewhat close to things also just something to throw in I’m also in my mid 40’s
