@Mad About Tutorials I had to put my gateway in bridge mode to stop double Nat it’s connected to my router and I can finally achieve open Nat to game. Is it safer to do the port forwarding instead of upnp. And do I still have security on my router because I pay for it. And I wanna have a open Nat but stay safe. My game doesn’t allow a vpn. What is the safest way to have open Nat. Port forwarding

Hey, very nice video here straight to the point. But I've heard alot of times that port forwarding is not safe (for home use it probably doesn't matter that much but still). Are there any additional steps that you would need to take to secure your connection for this stuff, or is it okay to open a port in your router for let's say a VPN server, that's what I want to do at home.

It's relatively safe to open ports for a particular process, the aim is to limit the number of ports you have open and ensure that you are limiting that port to a particular machine for its purpose. By default, there are a number of ports open on your router to allow web traffic and emails to pass through. There are many ports that hackers sniff for to exploit your system, so it's best to have intrusion prevention and detection processes in place and ensure your firewall is up to scratch.

Do you have any idea why my asus router wont allow me to portforward? Its an ac86. I’ve tried most things like disabling firewalls on the router and pc. I’ve given the pc a static ip and such, I’ve opened ports a lot before but this router doesn’t seem to like me...

This router should support fort forwarding, I've done a tutorial for Asus router with this software, see here if you haven't already kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaOqfKGwYpJ-qNk. If this still doesn't work, I would be looking at your ISP, they may not allow port forwarding as your connection might be terminated at the node.

@@MadAboutTutorials Thanks for the reply! I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m only getting a private ip or what its called. My router says that the public ip is “100.64....” something and my public ip starts with 184. Is there a way to open up ports without having to use like a vpn or something?

So recently I've been trying to set up a server for me and my friends on Minecraft Java Edition but I can't get the port forward to work. I've set up a static IP, I've added the Minecraft TCP and UDP ports to my firewall, I've added the Minecraft port forward to my router, I've tried as many different formats for the port forward as I could think of. I've even download multiple port-forwarding softwares. I've followed so many tutorials and nothing is working! Please help. Router: Asus RT-N66R

Remove all the port forwarding software you have installed as it may be causing a conflict. Go to Wan on you router, Virtual server/ Port forwarding, Enable, enter port range 25565, Local IP is the STATIC IP of the PC running your Minecraft server, enter 25565 in Local port, use TCP and UDP in protocol. Apply. go to google and and type "whats my IP" give your finds the Public IPv4 address , provided you used 25565 as the port on both sides they wont need to use the port number to join. If they cant join still, the problem is on you ISP's end, contact them and ask them about what ports are blocked.

For anyone else that has my problem just use another port like 25568, that's what I had to do, idk why.

@@ae-_ae good to know, sounds like your ISP is blocking minecraft server hosting. In that case you can leave the port on the server as 25565, set port range on the router to 25568 and local port to 25565, your friends will need to use your public ip with :25568 on the end.

Negative, port forwarding is making an exception to allow traffic through the firewall to a specific ip. I would contact your ISP and find out if they have blocked certain ports.

In that case it should just be settings on your router. If you haven't already, see this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaOqfKGwYpJ-qNk it's the same GUI as your router. Make sure you are connecting via your current public IP, your ISP will issue you a new IP everytime you power cycle your router.

@@MadAboutTutorials I am using my personal computer's ipv4, could that be causing any issues? I closely followed the suggested video above and it still hasn't worked for me. (ISP said no ports are disabled) Do I need to port forward on the modem or can it just be the asus router?

@@gavtyler6651 port forwarding is usually done on the gateway (the device that connects your network to the internet). I'm guessing your modem doesn't have wifi or isn't strong enough so you have the RT-AX58U plugged in to a LAN port on the modem to extend its capabilities? if so, it sounds like the RT-AX58U is just being used as an over priced switch, in which case all your port forwarding should be done on the modem. There is another option that moves all the routing to the RT-AX58U, but its much more in depth and complicated.

Hi, I used to get Open NAT type when play Call of duty on my PC but it’s suddenly changed to moderate and I’ve been randomly kicked from servers every few hours,. Not sure if that’s due to the servers or my NAT.. any advice on how to open it? I have the Telstra smart modem. It’s been moderate for about 3 days now.
