Totally agree! Thanks for the Vive tip. We'll have to research that one for our next trip. Cheers!

And you have answered the question I just left on your previous video but prompted another. I’m not planning on driving the ATV I’ll be on the back, but when booking did you BOTH need a IDP? Or did only the planned “driver” need one?

We both had permits since we drove the whole day. I believe the driver will need the permit not the rider, but am not 100% sure!

Only the driver needs a license.

Thanks for these tips! We are planning a family trip this summer and it’s so hard to narrow down the islands. We’re thinking of Crete, Santorini or Naxos, finish in Athens. We don’t want to miss the beauty of Santorini , but we’re not fans of the crowds. Naxos sounds like it would be great for families. By the way, Jimmy are you a plant vlogger also? I feel like i’ve seen you before talking plants 🪴

I was told at each visit to Greece that a motorcycle license is needed if you are from the US. The international drivers license can only be stamped with an "A" or a "B" (motorcycle and car) plus one for large commerical vehicles. There is no scooter stamp. If you are from places like EU countries, it is different as they have scooter licenses and graduated motorcycle licenses (they license based on age and engine cycle of the motorcycle). And no international license is required for EU residents. I have heard that electric scooters might be an exception for rentals. I have a motorcycle license and thus have no issues, but I suspect some of the vendors are confused while others are lying and just want to rent the bikes. However, if they rent a bike illegally, you (the rider) can be cited and fined, and the liability insurance is void.

Thanks for the thorough comment regarding this George! Tourists who forget to get their international driver’s license still have the option of the small scooters if we remember correctly, which isn’t bad at all for exploring. We did 4x4s which did need a license. Cheers!

@@jimmyandbabstravels Unless the law changed relatively recently, that is not true. There are places which do rent the small scooters out, but they often do it illegally. The law abiding places will not rent ANY gas powered scooter (even 50 cc) without seeing a motorcycle designation on the international drivers license or the drivers license showing the motorcycle designation. The only exeception I was told aplied to small electric ones. The issue is that places are often happy to rent the scooters out, and most of the time, all goes well. But once something does NOT go well, now there is trouble as the liability insurance won't apply. I will check with 2 of my sources there, but this was still true as of last year. The only change I know of for sure is that Americans no longer need an international drivers license. BUT, the Greek Embassy staffer I spoke with (last month) said you still need a translation to Greek and that the cost of doing that is way more expensive then just getting the international drivers license.
