A little about me:
My name's Minoo, and I'm originally from Iran.
I obtained my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Diploma in England in 1985.
Since then, I've been an English teacher, teacher trainer, and course director in various schools and countries. I'm also a trained confidence coach.
In 2008, my son, Tom, and I set up the Anglo-Link platform for online English studies.
This led to the creation of our popular KZbin channel in 2011.
My passion is to share with you what I've learnt on my own English language journey, both as a student and as a teacher, so that you can become a fluent speaker of English too.
Join the Anglo-Link Community at app.anglo-link... where you will find all the support you need to reach your goal of speaking English with confidence and ease!

This is a very good video! English is my first language but I decided to watch this because it has been a long time since I have studied the rules in-depth. I would just like to point out that I immediately had an issue with the sentence, "physics is more interesting than maths." I found out that "maths" is actually a informal/slang shortening of the word mathematics which is mostly a British usage. In the Americas where English is spoken, "maths" looks like a pluralization of the word math which is never appropriate. I hope this is helpful and doesn't come off sounding nit-picky.

Thank you! I teach British English, and that's why I've used the word 'maths'. However, the information you have provided on the American usage is very interesting.

Hellooooo! I love all your videos, they are very useful when it comes down to improve my British English pronunciation and, of course, grammar. But after watching this video a question remained. I know there are some rules concerning the word "different". Do I really always have to use "that of" and "those of" when using "different"? Is it for all the adjectives? Thank you very much from a brazilian student who loves british culture!

I don't have any questions concerning both superlative and comparative. However, I never know when and which to use in sentences like: "You're the person that I have talked the most" I never know if I should use 'the most'/'most'/'mostly'/'more'. What is the difference between these in the kind of context above mencioned?

Small correction, but something that probably wasn't worth going into for this video... Further vs. Farther. Further is when you're not talking about physical distance whereas farther is when you are. So you could say "he went the farthest into the woods" or "he went the furthest in his career". But as a native English speaker myself, most don't even care or would notice this distinction in any normal conversation. Separately, when I was growing up learning about these, we used to make jokes out of interesting sounding but obviously wrong comparatives/superlatives such as gooder, bestest, and "more smarter". Feel free to use those in jest!

Thank you for the additional information. As you say, especially in British English, 'farther' is hardly ever used, so I decided not to bother with it.

Great vid. Could you please tell if this sentence right or wrong? Or which one is right “ she draws most beautifully among all my friends” or “ She draws the most beautifully among all my friends”
@AngloLinkEnglish
@AngloLinkEnglish 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Both are correct. With adverbs, you can drop 'the'. And, if there's no comparison, you must drop 'the': She sings most (=really) beautifully. If you're interested, here's a long thread with different answers to this question: www.englishforums.com/English/TheMostAdverb/bcppgx/post.htm
