I have seen many teachers on youtube but not such a teacher have I seen. I admired your lesson on cause and effect relationship and I do admire this lesson on contrast and concession. Being a teacher, myself, I like the way you link subordinating conjunctions, coordinating conjunctions, prepositions and conjunctive adverbs with their different functions. In short, I like you thrice; as a successful teacher, as a modest woman and as a sister in humanity.

Hello Fazil, I'm glad you've enjoyed this lesson. The two expressions you have mentioned work in the same way as 'however' for concession. They prepare the listener for a contradiction to what the speaker has just said.

@AngloLinkEnglish5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have checked several references, but I cannot find a consistent rule regarding the punctuation for 'while' and 'whereas'. Personally, I would treat it like 'although': If the sentence starts with one of these two, separate with a comma. If they're in the middle, don't.

wow that is really great as you are great. some people made comments about comma in subordinating conjuction..part. well you explained very well the comma rule.and you dont even read comma word while reading that sentence B is rather expensive (,) while A is reasonably priced. and you read this comma word while reading this sentence While A is reasonably priced,B is rather expensive. and even you do not put comma in the exercise portion when you used WHILE in the middle of sentence. so it means it is typing mistake so it is not a big deal. i mentioned it here because i really shocked by these types of comments.

so professionally !thank you minoo, in spite of the fact that written English is so hard to understand mostly in an academic manner for its learners,but anglo- link- team seems that is breaking down the fact.you all are the biggest source of mine when it comes to standard English Grammer.lucky to have you...but.. still I'm struggling with my low volume of memorized words,have not you got tips on this except reading and memorizing the whole sentence which is consist of the mean word that you want to memorize it.and this has become such a nightmare for me while speaking, even though I have not experienced it yet in front of a bunch of ppl.
@AngloLinkEnglish8 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you've enjoyed this lesson, Nasher. If you want to use your vocabulary actively (while speaking), you must do two things: 1.Learn it in context, ideally your own context. However, it doesn't have to be a whole sentence. A short phrase will do as well. 2. Repeat the phrase out loud, ideally after a model, so you don't make pronunciation mistakes. So, as you read, write out the words that you want to learn, put them in a phrase or sentence that is meaningful and memorable for you, check and practise the pronunciation of the new word using an online dictionary, and finally repeat the phrases to yourself out loud. I hope this helps a little.
@nasherkohistani76188 жыл бұрын
thanks minoo, they will do, because I believe in your magic tips.as they have been doing a lot to me since I've got familiar with you, though I hadn't tried them before, but I'll try them. I appreciate your taking care of your fans and students from deep of my heart. God bless you!
@AngloLinkEnglish8 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Nasher. One other thing: No matter how large your repertoire of active vocabulary becomes, the most important thing is to not to tense up or worry about mistakes before you speak. Stay confident, and relax about possible mistakes or hesitations. Everyone experiences blank moments, even native speakers. Let me know how you get on.
@nasherkohistani76188 жыл бұрын
great to hear again from you, the fact is that I HAVE not experienced it yet (talking to someone for a long time).I don't think that not being fully correct grammatically will be my problem ,though as I sais I HAVEN'T TRIED IT ALOT.but the problem I WORRY a lot about is not fully understanding the opposite side of the conversation .for example talking to a native speaker who uses a lot of idioms, phrases and slangs .and their style of talking has been kinky with it.
@AngloLinkEnglish8 жыл бұрын
Once again, there's no point in worrying about it. If that happens, just tell the speaker that you're not familiar with their accent and ask them to slow down. In the meantime, you may want to watch my lesson called 'Learn English Listening Skills' to become familiar with some patterns that native speakers use. Also, it's important to understand all the common phrasal verbs. You have probably watched my 10 lessons on phrasal verbs. Keep reviewing them. And of course, watching movies is very helpful in getting used to the way native speakers speak. I know it takes a lot to master a foreign language, and the best way to approach it is to make it fun and interesting. Let the worrying go.

@AngloLinkEnglish7 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome. 'on the contrary' introduces neither a concession nor a contrast. It negates the previous statement. 'on the other hand' can be used to express a contrast in the same way as 'while' and 'whereas' do.

You're most welcome. 'reasonably priced' means that the price reflects the value and is affordable. After a preposition, the verb always take the 'ing' form, even if there is a noun between them: without causing / for causing / in spite of causing >> in spite of the mistake causing

hello teacher thank u very much for these useful lessons but i have a suggestion and i hope you'll help me can u make more video on how to sound more like a native english speaker because i already have the language and understand it perfectly when watching movies or news but my accent is poor and thanks again

Hello Noor, I'm glad you've enjoyed my lessons. Many of my colleagues have published videos on how to speak like a native speaker. I feel my contribution will not add any value to those. Besides, I don't think it is important to sound like a native speaker. After all, there are hundreds of 'native speaker' accents. How to choose which one to teach or to learn? For me, the priorities are: a) to understand the most common 'native speaker' accents, which you seem to do; b) to pronounce correctly and clearly enough that everyone understands you easily. With my students, I focus on improving their listening comprehension and on correcting pronunciation mistakes that make them hard to understand.

Hello Sebastien, I'm glad you've enjoyed this lesson. No, as much as I like Cumberbatch, it's not my type of movie.

Dear Minoo, Thanks a lot for your great lessons and I wish you a happy new year with lots of donation and more lovely courses. I would like to ask you some clarifications about the use of "Mean while" expression. Best regards! Hicham
@AngloLinkEnglish7 жыл бұрын
Happy New Year to you to, Hicham. 'meanwhile' (one word) means 'at the same time as the other action that I've just spoken about': We must wait another hour for dinner. Meanwhile, we can play cards.

nice explanation madam. could u please explain can we use a comma before although if there is two directly contrasting information? eg. He is short, although his brother is tall. I saw this type of usage of comma with subordinating conjunctions. that's why.. please reply me
@AngloLinkEnglish8 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Thomas. Yes, you will come across 'although' used after a comma to show a contrast, performing the same function as 'whereas' or 'while'. However, the most common use of 'although' is to express a concession.
