A little about me:
My name is Minoo. I’m originally from Iran, and I live and work in the U.K.
I’m a qualified English teacher and teacher trainer, but that’s not what makes me good at my job.
I just love teaching! It makes me feel good when I can share something I’ve learned with others. That’s why I still love teaching English after 40 years of doing it!
English is such a vast and complicated language! My passion is to make it as easy as possible for others to learn. My students always praise my ‘clear explanations’ and 'structured method'.
I suppose I can explain things well because I’m not a native speaker. I’ve struggled with English pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary myself. I’ve had to work out the rules and learn the exceptions, and I just love sharing my own discoveries with others like me who are learning English as a foreign language.
Thank you so much, everyone, for all the ‘likes’ and your lovely and supportive comments! I'm so grateful for your support!

Hello! Menu, can you please tell which one of the two sentences is correct? 1)My stint with the company didn't last longer as I met with a road accident and had to quit unwillingly. 2)My stint with the company didn't last longer as I had met with a road accident and quit in the middle of my training.

The first sentence is correct. You don't need to use the Past Perfect.

Hello Fatima, Yes, you can, and there is no difference. Opinions are divided as to which form is better. The same goes for all other pronouns: This is due to me / my being hasty.

Thank you for the lesson you always have been great over there. However, if you don't mind, I had a comment in regards one of the examples were being used in this tutorial. - We had booked the tickets well in advance, so they were cheap. - The tickets were cheap because we had booked them well in advance. - Because we had booked them well in advance, the tickets were cheap! It simulates a situation in which as a result of your advance booking, the tickets were sold to you for a lower price while they were cheap because you booked them in advance. We buy them in advance, therefore >> we can get cheap tickets! While the actual situation is You got cheap tickets because you bought them in advance. Maybe it sounds crazy, but I just wanted to let you know how I felt when I first saw this phrase you know just like love in first sight, when you see it you recognize it :-) It would be my great pleasure to hear back from you; thanks again.
@AngloLinkEnglish
@AngloLinkEnglish 8 жыл бұрын
Hello Anwar, I vaguely see where you're coming from. What if we mention 'the tickets' in the sub-clause: Because we had booked the tickets well in advance, they were cheap.
@AnwarNillufary
@AnwarNillufary 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I guess this is the correct way that delivers the same meanings as others; thank you. - - We had booked the tickets well in advance, so they were cheap. - - The tickets were cheap because we had booked them well in advance. - - Because we had booked them well in advance, the tickets were cheap! - Because we had booked the tickets well in advance, they were cheap. Because it has the same meaning as two others. Thanks again Anglo-Link for your English lessons and your continuous and tireless efforts you put together over here; however, I couldn't follow them for a long, long time, but I love your lessons anyway, also I guess I need to practice my speaking skills a bit more, because most of the times at a real time that I need them most they just disappear! it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Good. I'm glad that's settled, Anwar. In the link below, which is my answer to one of my students on how to improve fluency, you will find links to materials I have produced to help students with their speaking and fluency. I'm afraid they are not free like my video lessons, but they will give you an idea of what you need to do to become more fluent: www.anglo-link.com/index.php?/topic/14695-how-to-improve-fluency-and-confidence/ Good luck with all your English studies.

Minoo, can I ask you a question? It is connected with negative forms of gerund. For example, we have two sentences: "She didn't come in time" and "We missed the train". Now, can we say (using negative form): "We missed the train, because of her not coming in time" or do we have to use another way of expressing the idea?
@AngloLinkEnglish
@AngloLinkEnglish 6 жыл бұрын
The sentence is correct, but awkward. If you can find a real noun to express the same thing, it will be more elegant: We missed the train because of her lateness / lack of punctuality.

How should I decide which word should I use because the same sentence can be express either by cause-words or by effect-words like Everyone buys it because it is reasonably priced or It is reasonably priced. Therefore, everyone buys it. What is the difference?
