what about ticking/clicking sound. when in park or neutral snapping the throttle no sound. put in drive while driving a steady ticking/clicking sound. stays at a constant. won't do it in reverse.

This is a nice guy just trying to help. He even made it funny, so yeah why the negative comments? The ONLY thing that irked me a teeny bit was the repetition of "you may have a transmission problem," but SO WHAT? The public service he didn't have to do FAR outweighed anything else. I learned now what to listen for just in case. My question is that I'd like to know what the cause is behind the clunking sounds I hear when first going from park to reverse when parked and just starting up to drive? It also will clunk if I test it going from neutral to drive, or reverse to park, to the point of shaking the car. However, when driving, it shifts smoothly with none of the noises he described. My tranny fluid is between minimum and maximum. Who knows, maybe it's the motor mount or something else?

That's really funny. My truck made some horrible sounds and I was trying to imitate it for someone to diagnose and I couldn't convey it (have you ever tried-? Not easy. :/) Then I searched for sounds on this site and he did pretty good. lol Now I'm on the way back to show him this to see if that's indeed the problem and right shop. ROFL! When. the trannsmission failed in my '97 Hyundai Sonata.. It didn't make any of those noises! It just went BANG! Then after I had a shop "rebuild" the transmisssion.. it made EVERY ONE of those noises, before it went "BANG" again! This was YEARS ago..I can laugh about it now! Great sound effects! XD

Mine goes, "Bzzzzzzzzzz" in any gear and Patk, while I am stopped. It may be "buzzing" while I drive and I just can't hear it. Sometimes I can change the gear and it will subside a little or even stop the sound entirely. It's an AOD from an "83 T-Bird now in my "62 F100 behind a stock 302.

1998 I purchased a 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix. Weeks later I had an occasional shifting problem. I took it to AAMCO on South Santa Fe Ave., Vista CA. The manager/tech explained that my shifter cable was bad and it needed to be replaced and the cost would be about $1800.00. Being that I was a college student with little cash, he offered me a deal of $1500 to help me out because he had a cable in stock, did not have to order the cable, he could fix it and I would be on the road in less than an hour. Still too much money, I said no because I only paid $2000 for the car and did not want it to be a money pit. Anyway a few days later, it failed while driving. While down-shifting and going into a parking lot, it would not go into any gear. Stress is mounting, opened the hood and did some investigating. After about 2 minutes I found what I thought was the problem and pushed the end of the shifter cable onto the little knob or nipple that was below the shifter cable. Got back in the car and it was shifting. I went home and put a hairpin around the post to hold it down and it worked. I drove that car without any shifting problems for the next 5 years, never returning to AAMCO. No wonder he said he had one in stock and could have me on the road in an hour. He was going to do the same thing, but charge me $1500 for a 2-cent, 30-second fix. I am telling this story so that others will know that most (NOT ALL) mechanics will rip you off if given the chance. 25 years later I will not go to any AAMCO for anything. What a lasting NEGATIVE impression AAMCO gave me. 25 years later I still will not go to or recommend AAMCO. Before anyone goes to AAMCO, check other options, keep checking other options until you find another option, but never go to AAMCO!

2003 Mustang GT Deluxe V8 Automatic. When pressing on the gas, it makes a loud whining noise and it doesn't shift 100% on time. Once it got to 6000RPMS and I had to feather the gas to make it shift. Replaced the torque converter because it happens randomly. Thought that it just wasn't fully engaging. Still makes the noise. Any pointers, or anything??? I'm CLUELESS!!!

Hi. I have a 1996 Saturn. When the transmission shifts itself automatically, sometimes it'll jolt or jerk. It did it so hard the other day I thought someone had rear-ended me. I can't afford a new card, but don't know if I should pour what it costs to rebuild a transmission. I understand there is a transmission shift solenoid. I'm taking my car in for a diagnostic in a couple of ways. Is it possible to check the solenoid before rebuilding the transmission? Thanks!

How about a 10r80 that slams into 2nd or 3rd the first few shifts after sitting for a while, 100% stock, no tunes, started on its own not after any major maintenance etc. even after dealer replaced fluid, filter, 2 pressure plates and a valve body overhaul?

I kind of inherited an 86' caddy, and when I put it in drive it would clunk once pretty hard. I don't think it clunked when I put it in reverse, but when I would slow down to about 10-15mph, it clunked when I would accelerate. One day, I started the car and put it into Drive, and after I heard the clunk and it wouldn't go anywhere at all. It starts and revs, but won't move. Is this a transmission problem?

When i hill climb a very steep hill 20 to 30% incline my AW4 automatic transmission makes noise like grinding or some uneasy metalic noise. I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero sport with 3.0 gas engine. It only makes this noise on steep hill climbs where i use the L or first gear.

2014 Chevy V8 6.0...only 7,400 miles on this RV . My transmission makes that wind noise when I start to take off and then disappears. It drives very well until I checked the transmission fluid, it's all gone. I looked under the vehicle has no leaks, check the lines to the cooling system no problem. Can't figure out what happened to the fluid. This RV is garaged kept and in new condition. Any answer would help. thank you.

The vehicle is Toyota camry 1997 model and issue is that if I start moving the gear will not shift from 1st gear to second gear unless I shift my leg from throttle pedal , even at that it will shift to third gear instead of second gear, I have ran obd on the vehicle but it shown cam shaft sensor nothing on gear issue.

My dodge carravan makes that noice (50s-55s) at around 1500 -2500 rpms when accelerating. However, the noice doesn't go after reaching desired speed. Infact, it just gets louder!. Coukd that still be a transmission??
