I believe at 8:24 you are thinking of op. 9 no. 2. I have tried learning it, and I’ve learned about half of it with both hands, but know all of the right hand. Not much of a flex, but it is for me lol. Although you did not play in the right key, the idea was exactly there, very impressive! Love the soldier analogy btw, it’s so true. I unfortunately learned this the hard way and ended up learning jumps, arpeggios, etc. by force while learning songs. Thanks for all of the advice in this video!

Merci for this. I've been taking a break from watching your videos since I'm working on the techniques you've shown. This last week I had a click because of your hand independence exercise with 3 fingers in one hand and four in the other. And that helped by break a barrier, but now I just need to put my soldiers through boot camp. Looking at this video, I'll be working my chord inversions with different LH techniques; stride, etc. I'm still waiting for my daughter to finish the editing, but I've thought of doing smaller videos on various parts of the arm for treatment techniques. That way I can go into more detail. Maybe you could just show them on your channel? I've contacted some baseball teams in America for my shoulder technique. I haven't found anyone in Europe that is doing it, but I'm sure they are aware of the importance of the shoulder.

Thank you for yours. I contacted you via Patreon. I don't know if you've received the message there!? Glad that you've taken a break and started to apply some of the stuff you've acquired from lots of my videos. Hand independence and brain-breaking exercises are really fun and beneficial, especially when you can do them pretty fast without thinking! Best, Dan

This video is fantastic, I particularly appreciate the jazz improv. on a 6-2-5-1 at 25' with a stride rhythm in left hand and the target note philosophy in right hand.

There's so much in this video to practice, thank you Dan and I will go to your Target Note Philosophy video again. I'm enjoying the freedom of creating little melodies from the chord and notes of interest. it's helping bring things together in many ways.

An excellent video lesson , thanks Dan ( a nice revisit for me). I think my biggest hang-up of playing Jazz piano is “too thoughtful” or “ too intense”. As you put it “this is not a thought process, just play”. Thanks for at least 10 goodies offered. All the best

Very useful tips and the real potential point in your tutorials, is it's natural, you do improvising, you do mistakes, it's real. Thanks :)

Interesting video, you pretty much covered almost all the common techniques in different styles and areas of playing piano. By mastering these techniques you can play most of the songs that are in average level difficulty. My favorite techniques are definitely octaves, long jumps/stride and arpeggios.

Hi Dan and everyone else interested in piano playing. I was just thinking and I got an idea! I told you in last video I am also learning to sing. And I think i found a great way of supporting everything in our life, not just learning piano or singing. I am also loosing weight with my own philosophy but thats another topic. Main thing and I strongly feel it has it's way also for your teaching style is autohypnosis. I was trying it the other day and I don't know how I got it, but my singing improved! I am not a second Pavarotti...yet..haha :))) No seriously, as you may know all hypnosis is a form of extreme autosuggestion. So why not use it for your teachings? It's nothing complicated or dangerous. I think it's worht looking at. If you or anyone else is interested, just hit me ;) Thank you, stay safe and positive. With love Ivo

Hello everyone, how was your Christmas, Chanukah, Gwanza? :)) I have an update on my previous comment. I was trying self hypnosis and subliminal recordings for this whole week and the results are astonishing! I have to admit something first. I also did some Yousician and then and mainly Flowkey, which is absolutely astonishing combined with these elements of suggestion. I have moved in short amount of time a way, that is truly marvelous. I thinks it is like a trio. You Dan then Flowkey and finally suggestion methods like hypnosis and subliminal stuff. Really guys try it! it is worth it, I think Dan has to say some good stuff about it, right Dan? Everything now sets into istelf like a clog machine and I feel like i am seeing the end of the universe! Take Dan, app like Flowkey and a bit of self hypnosis and these cookies are tender like heated butter! And that is all thanks to you Dan, my biggest comliments to you!!! And no, I am not drunk or high, alcohol and drugs are bad mkaaaay? :)) haha

@danthecomposer Thanks man! learn't all my major scales now. Focusing on practicing common chord progressions in every key. Practicing my rootless voicing as well. It has been going great. Making major progress! My weakness though is improvisation. I've been working on some jazz licks to implement in my improvisation. But how do I make these licks mine and exploit them without sounding monotonous. Sometimes it feels like if I just have a bag of unrelated licks. Thanks for the reply!

Hi dan, can you please do a video on practicing 2-5-1 progressions using various chord voicing. Sometimes I feel lost when i practice this
@danthecomposer5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, thanks for your suggestion. Are you able to play a 2-5-1 in any key because you have mastered the major scales? If not, voicings/inversions cannot be mastered just yet. So, where are you at? Best, Dan
@bobfridge5 жыл бұрын
I have been playing piano for 4 months I am half way through the circle of 4ths. I only have "mastered" 7 major scales but I can only play fluently in 5 keys . I think all I need is to practice my diatonic chords more and get my head around the various chord extensions. I think the problem is mainly just progress. I know what info to learn but I don't know when I should move on to new keys and when I should start using various extensions. I tend to move on to more advanced things prematurely.
@danthecomposer5 жыл бұрын
Well, get all 12 keys down before anything else. Even if if a piece is in a more common key, the chords can still pass through keys you otherwise would have neglected - you simply CANNOT escape major scale mastery so simply do it, get it over and done with, and reap the benefits forever. You can see from my video list the videos on major scales and extensions... which you only read need if interested in jazz (which it seems you are). Again, extensions come from major scale alterations, so you can't escape it! But 7, so far, is good... almost there! Updates welcome (in a new comment or I won't see your response) Best, Dan

Dear Dan, thx for the video. Would you happen to know any"all-in-one" book to learn chords-scales-rhythm for this type of popular-style playing for an adult intermediate student? Thank you!
@danthecomposer4 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks also. I always stay away from books and encourage others to do the same. For theory, sure, because that applies to everybody but books on technique and what to do is quite futile since everybody's path is different, not to mention their musical personality, ambitions, natural abilities, etc. No book will ever be written for You! So, would you mind telling me what you hope to achieve on your piano path and then I can recommend a video/personalise suggestions for You only. Best, Dan

@@danthecomposer hi, Dan! Thanks for your response! I'm looking for a book that has little exemplars of rhythmic patterns or runs(scales) common in pop piano playing, as I lack stylistic knowledge. Any recommendations??

Hi Dan, Im 42 yo, I play guitar sometimes but want to learn piano to play some pop music. What is the best entry level digital piano do you recommend? Does it need to have weighted hammer action keys to practice my fingers? and or does it have to be 88 keys?! Thanks
@danthecomposer5 жыл бұрын
Hello there and welcome to my channel. Good question. I always promote Yamaha with 88 weighted keys but it depends on your path. What do play to do? Compose? Play Carnegie Hall? Join a pub blues band? This article will help too: www.digitalpianoreviewguide.com/how-to-pick-the-best-digital-piano-under-500/ Best, Dan
