For the few months I've experienced a couple of deaths each week, but always in different tanks. The tanks are well established and parameters are perfect, so after watching this I think maybe it is old age (many of them were adults when I purchased them a year ago). Interestingly it is more often the neocaridina; our caridina seem to live longer and they mostly came from hobby breeders (many from you!). So it is interesting to hear about how shrimp quality can affect longevity. Thank you for making this video, I feel reassured that it is probably a natural and expected occurrence when you have thousands of shrimp!

Hey Ray I just love your videos I look forward to new ones coming all the time I always check back to see if you've released any new ones that I might have missed. You have some beautiful shrimp tanks. I wish I lived close to you so I could get some of your shrimp they would definitely be good quality and healthy. I have a sad story of losing some shrimp I had a tank full of Taiwan be and pinto shrimp in a 10 gallon heavily planted tank that was just beautiful started having a cockroach problem in my kitchen so I placed some cockroach killing paste/bait around various places in my kitchen not realizing that cockroaches like to hang out in shrimp tank rims and occasionally fall into the tank. So I'm assuming that some cockroaches must have fell into my tank and like shrimp do they the carcasses which had poison in their stomachs and killed the whole tank. I wanted to cry when I came out and saw all those expensive shrimp that I spent hundreds of dollars on all did the bottom of the tank. This could be good lesson for anyone reading this be careful of cockroach insect killing paste.

I wish I would have know just how critical the water parameters were. When I first got into caridina shrimp I thought I could just mix ro water with some tap water and it would be fine. Boy was I wrong. Couple hundred dollars worth of really nice caridina shrimp lost to my inexperience. Lesson learned. Have had much more success now that I know more. But always trying to learn as much as possible. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Is an active substraight necessary for caridina? if my kh is already 0-1, I wouldn’t need and active soil to buffer my kh any lower right?
@RWAquariumPages2 жыл бұрын
You don't need it to lower the kh but you'll need it to lower the ph to the levels that caridina thrive in. Unless you use a product like smw bioculture or co2 to lower the ph

Oh no. We're they adults or juvi shrimp? What was the breeders water compared to yours? Was it close or off by a lot?
